Food has become a more complex part of our lives than ever before. Much of what we think is food is actually many ingredients disguised as food, with entirely different, often negative impacts on the human body. Sadly, this is a greater problem here in the US than in other parts of the world, thanks to the food industry, corrupt intentions, and broken policies. Today, I talk about all this and more with my guest Jason Karp, whose personal experience of nearly going blind due to a toxic lifestyle led him to discover a different way; he made it his mission to get “back to human.”
In this episode, we discuss:
Jason’s personal health journey and why that has prompted him to take on the campaign against Kellogg’s (7:53)
The unhealthy state of America’s food industry (22:42)
How Kellogg’s has one cereal formulation for Canada and another for the US that is full of chemicals (26:07)
The correlation between food dyes and ADHD, and the failure of Kellogg's pledge (29:04)
The political aspect of food regulation and dangers of unregulated food additives (32:55)
Why we are in a state of metacrisis and what that means for our future (37:18)
The bidirectional relationship between food and mental health (46:04)
The financial burden of healthcare on the US government due to unhealthy diets (53:52)
Supporting the Kellogg's Initiative: Sign the Petition (1:06:03)
We have a lot to do to shift our food system and eliminate harmful ingredients in the US, but there are ways to enact positive change starting today. We can all support a cleaner food industry and better health by voting with our dollar, purchasing real food, and getting involved in policy policy changes. I hope you’ll listen to this episode to learn more.

I purchase only whole vegetables and fruits, nuts and seeds. I regularly buy organic eggs from the local farmer. My husband hunts and we eat organic meat. I also buy as much as possible from the various farmers around our area and when traveling to other area states - often times will stop, ask where certain vegetables are from- and buy from the farmer markets. It is more expensive- but, we save money by not being sick or requiring medications. We have totally eliminated ultra processed food- and, like you- we have loss weight even though we still eat plenty of healthy food and feel totally satiated. I am not trying my best to get my family members to understand the importance of what they buy and eat. I have two family members totally on board - many more to go!

The reality of what is going on in this country is that the government has been busy suing, small, farmers, that has been their choice of where the money is being spent. They sued an Amish farmer in Pennsylvania, who was providing people with healthy food to eat and many of them Actually were healthier because of what they were buying from him but yet the government went after him. Many other small farmers, who are regenerative in this country are being sought after and the rules they are being given to run their farms is putting them out of business. They want the big outfits who make all this bad food stay in business, whereas the small farmers are being sued and that’s the true reality of what is actually going on. I don’t want the crappy cereal from Kellogg’s and will never eat it again in my life because I know what it does for one’s body.

If they should make it to adults, they will be forever dependent on the same evil systems. Meal deliveries from many online food distributors can send fresh ingredients for $7.00 per meal. Why can't government source better for the children? I looked into the fresh meal deliveries, but I couldn't find where they sourced the meat or vegetables, solid pass for me.

This is a small change, but perhaps it is just the first step of large-scale change? We, even, joke about how frosted flakes and sugar corn pops are not as sweet as they used to be. Also, I worked at McDonald's as a teenager... and I ate McDonald's. And me, my whole family and all my friends were all slim, looked great, felt great... and no one I knew of had diabetes or cancer. Of course we didn't overeat... EVER. As kids we played outside. And as teenagers we walked several miles to and from school everyday... and had phys ed in school. Same in college... always walking (in high heels😊). @dawnelder9046 Names used to identify digestion-resistant maltodextrin as an ingredient in foods for regulatory purposes include soluble fiber, resistant dextrin, or dextrin. Names may include the food starch used to fabricate the ingredient. The chemical family has had a history of changes in classification.Maltodextrin is a name shared by two different families of chemicals. Both families are glucose polymers, but have little chemical or nutritional similarity. The digestible maltodextrins are manufactured as white solids derived from chemical processing of plant starches.

Thermal scan was red from the tooth all down my lymphatic system on that side. Both said look at this xray. Nothing is wrong with your root canal. I had a high viral count. A holistic dentist, surgically removed tooth. Scraped infection all over my jaw. Irrigated the ligaments. Injected my own plasma. My viral count is getting better. My lymph node is normal size a day not sore. I am finally feeling better. When I lived in France I observed kids having yogurt as dessert - My nephews and nieces sit at the table and have soup, salad and some type of protein- I don’t think I ever saw soda at the table in France or Belgium - I lived there 11 years. . Who would ever want to open a box of food with coloring and throw it at a kid or some nuggets. The problem is people don’t have time to cook, lunch hours are short and vacation time in the USA is ridiculous. Am not saying Europe is perfect but how can anyone enjoy food when you work so many hours. People seek junk food because is fast - they get addicted to the sodium, sugar and fat - we need to slow down and go back to basics. What’s the point of climbing the success ladder then getting there with diabetes, obese or whatever other ailment one can get.

At Minute 11:50, the interviewee mentions that the only common theme between all of the healthy, indigenous cultures was that they're eating unprocessed, unrefined foods. That's at least half of the equation. Correct! The other part is that they're eating foods found in their unique nitch/environment... exclusively so. This is an example of evolutionary adaptation. The Inuits are not eating coconuts, kidney beans and strawberries. They're eating, or were eating, caribou, seals, cetacea for their meat and blubber. To learn more, read the book by Dr Alexander Leaf call "Youth in Old Age". This book is similar in theme to the book by Dr. Weston A. Price, DDS called "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" that used to be required reading in dental schools.

Thank you for the amazing information. I believe that a radical approach is necessary for a healthy life, not up for debate. Period. My kids have never eaten cereal, drunk regular milk, or had soda at home. About 99% of what we eat is grown, not processed. They have never been hospitalized, and they rarely have colds (if at all, it lasts about 3 days). They are now 10 and 15 years old. Since my boys were about 2 or 3 years old, I started sharing documentaries with them. Now I see how aware they are. We cook everything and rarely eat out, maybe once every 4 months (at First Watch). By the way, we don’t eat fast food. The key is educating children in this country at an early age; they understand it. Sugar is the enemy. I might be a bit extreme. The key is if my African Grandmother doesn’t think it looks like food, then it probably isn’t. It’s challenging but can be done. Key to success is food preparation.🙏🏾

My change came at 37 with divorce giving up smoking and alcohol . I did do better on diet . My dog became diabetic . She was a mess and difficult to regulate so I changed from commercial pellets to homemade and she lived 11 years with the disease . Longer than any dog I had heard of. I got blood work done and the doc wanted to put me on medication. I said no and would like to try an extreme diet change similar to what I was feeding my dog . 3 months later my blood work was comparable to my 24 year old daughter . Improvements in bowl movement and stools . Eye floaters recently went away and my health continues to improve while I age which kind of makes no sense . You age you decline . Funny I never drank water . As a kid it was pop or sugary juice and drinks . Tang was our healthy choice with chocolate milk . I had to learn how to drink water and it was difficult like a alcoholic giving up booze . Gum disease is finally gone with toenail fungus .lifetime battle . All I have left eczema but that seems to be a struggle to eliminate. My mom had it all her life up until her passing at 90 . I coach little league softball. The snacks given after the game and sold at the snack bar is horrific . Parents gave me a snack bag and you could say it's child abuse feeding kids like this . How are they going to have a fighting chance of being healthy when they age

@drumandbassob0007 Yes, his Proper Human Diet is the only thing I can see that will save us. All I know is that it has changed my life from one of pain and sickness to one of health with no more pain or meds. Best decision I've ever made for my health. 😊

Thanks for sharing! I'm disgusted with the amount of poisoning happening in America. ....all in the name of profit! But we do have consumer power and thus we can change this.

I stay as far away from doctors as I can. I am 69 and take no medication. I eat as naturally as I can. I go to the gym 3 times a week walk miles, sing in choir and actually just retired. A psychiatrist tried to put me on antidepressants that only made me sick so I stopped taking them and worked on my problems with a counsellor. A doctor, on one high blood pressure reading, put me on high blood pressure medicine which made me very sick. I stopped taking it and cut the salty soup and ate better so brought down my blood pressure naturally. Fired her as my doc. Now ater the craziness of the last few years and getting sick from that witches brew they forced us to take I will only go to a doctor for a broken bone or a bacterial infection as I know they can treat those.
