FajarID Fasting I get, but Dry? What convinced you to do dry ie fasting without drinking water (if I understand the term). Thanks.
@Ritalie4 жыл бұрын
@@Scottlp2 Dry fasting forces the fat to be converted into water. The fat in our body can actually be dissolved and turned into water, and this means, all the stored toxins in the fat, including pesticides, heavy metals, halides like bromine, drugs, are released from the body. Sweating, and dry fasting, both force toxins out of the fat cells. When you sweat a lot without drinking water, the body will begin releasing stored liquid reserves, along with all the toxins. Not drinking water is very important for short term detoxing. For long term fasting, it's obviously not practical. Sauna use, sweating, and dry fasting, can be combined for rapid detoxing. This is covered in a book called "Clear Body Clear Mind." Niacin (not fake niacin) dramatically accelerates the release of the toxins in the fat cells, which is why it causes flushing. The flushing goes away over time.

After fasting the stomach shrinks a bit. When one restarts eating, he/she will get full with less food than before (in addition to reaching satisfaction and satiety with the simpler wholesomer foods than before due to taste buds reset). If one fasts twice a year, the reset of stomach size and taste buds becomes regular, so portion control is no longer necessary. Therefore, eating becomes more natural and satisfying because at that point no one has to experience mental anguish over portion control or stress about trying to estimate an 80% fullness point.

I have spent countless hours studying his work on fasting, as well as Keto strategies and can now state I believe he is an extraordinary genius and long term (5-7 days) fasting(either Prolon FMD or a variation) is an extremely powerful healing modality, particularly for all things immune system related. In addition, it is wonderful for reducing risks of most common diseases. I have done five FMD's including a few small adjustments (somewhat less calories and less carbs as a % of calories, with terrific results! Thanks for the interview.

After my chemo experience with Cisplatin which so destroyed my GI tract, and having learned about the power of fasting I think that I could have just fasted and not had that poison injected directly into my bloodstream every week. This was forced fasting, being unable to keep down much food. I lost 33lbs in the seven weeks. I had stage 4 neck cancer and was put on simultaneous radiotherapy and chemotherapy. My Dr could not tell me how effective the addition of chemo was but estimated from "meta-anlayses" around 20% relative improvement in outcome. Had I known then what I know now, I would not have taken the poison, but just stopped eating for the 7 weeks, maybe sticking to supplements and broth. I find it hard to accept that having toxic platinum circulating in the body is a good idea, when you get so many benefits from just not eating.

I’ve listed to and watched at least 10 different interviews with Dr Longo and read his book, the longevity diet, and the reason you see him agree with certain points but also counter it is because the research he’s studied and done, is not based on one factor. He compares them to all the pillars. One of those pillars is the largest study on centenarians, people who have lived actively and very healthy into their 100’s, and none of those people followed keto, paleo, strict veganism , etc. Because there’s research that supports all these diets, he then has to place the findings against ALL the pillars of longevity and those diets fall short because none of the longevity groups actually followed any of those diets. None of those people Intermittently fasted the way we understand it, as 16/8 or 20/4, etc. They did the normal breakfast at 8 and usually stopped eating at latest by 7-8 pm for example. 12/12. There is research that supports benefits of 3-5 day fasting, as his own research in that area confirms, but intermittent fasting has shown to increase gall bladder desease and removal. In the research of actual humans living healthy and active into their 100,s they all ate regular hours and a little bit of everything although mostly vegetarian/ pescatarian. Basically the well known Mediterranean diet. Basically plant based. Rice, beans and pasta are all from plants so it doesn’t mean only veggies. His fasting research at USC involves 5 day water fast but one of the pillars is about compliance. People have difficulty fasting on just water for 5 days so a 5 day vegan fast at 725 calories (around 362 calories from veggies and 363 from fats like olives and nuts) is more reasonable for ppl to follow. Being vegan is hard to comply with so it’s ok to have a little meat or mostly fish since the centenarians did it too and live much longer than heavy meat eaters.
@d.l.k.60215 жыл бұрын
So do we eat his diet all the time or only as a fast a few times a year? And, what if you are allergic to fish and nuts? Also, I wonder about is a water fast only water or can you add salts for electrolytes?
@rubyxcube35 жыл бұрын
D.L. K. He recommends you eat healthy plant based meals. Use Preffered meat occasionally or if almost daily then use meat more as a condiment or “garnish” on top of your meal. Don’t eat what you’re allergic to so find replacements for that. Such as nuts are good because of their good fats. So just have good fat from another source. Dr Longo recommends his diet just 2-4 times a year depending if you’re a healthy-ish sedentary person then 4 times a year or if you’re a high performing athlete you probably only need it twice a year. Overweight and obese people once cleared for fasting from their Dr should do it much more often to reach optimal weight. Dr Jason Fung is a Nephrologist from Canada who works a lot with fasting for illnesses and desease. Especially diabetes. He has interviews here on KZbin.
@bashful2285 жыл бұрын
"Being vegan is hard to comply with" Is it though? Or is that a perception or projection? Its not only informational but very stylish read full of interesting facts about Italian lifestyle that radiates wellness. I also greatly enjoyed the part where Longo describes how he was ridiculed at uni when he wanted to do biochem when he was a musician at that point. And look at him now! (as a struggling physician I found that part inspirational) Furthermore I LOVE how he is different to all of these Keto/paleo/drgundry/blabla gurus, because he purely speaks from scientific point objectively describing the facts without biased opinion. For those who critique the prolon fasting kits - funds going to charity and so does the book sales:)

I have recently started fasting. I did a 3 day fast and now I’ve moved to fasting 3 days a week: Monday, Wednesday & Friday. I’ve been doing this poor to cop for less than a month & have noticed a massive difference. I sleep better, look better, feel better sugar cravings gone. Not hungry ever. I have lost weight & fat. Looking at 1/2 lbs of fat per 24 hour cycle. And when I do eat, I don’t limit my carbs. I think I will be doing this for life. highly recommend fasting, include electrolytes if you’re going to do water fast only.

I do 12-13h of fasting every day. It's very easy. Just have dinner between 6 and 7 pm. Stay up until about 10:30 - 11 PM. Sleep. Have breakfast at 7:30 - 8AM the day before. Voilà. It's a very easy way to also sleep well as most of your digestion is done and your body can focus on repairing.

Love Dr. Longo. So pleased you had him on your program. That was so fantastic. I see now how he gears this diet to where we are at right now, this is often overlooked. Will listen to this again. One thing I got out of this is test your IGF1, if it is over 140 then maybe cut down the protein. Well done for this wonderful interview.

I believe that my lifestyle suits me , especially as it’s been 50 years of doing the same thing, no meat, no alcohol, no cigarettes, no medication or vaccines, a stress free life, lots of sport , active job, positive attitude, lots of fresh veg , lots of carbs, no sugar, live next to a forest. Close family, and good quality sleep. Never been ill and don’t have a doctor. That was a very interesting video and makes me think I am on the right track .

@whydoihavetoify4 жыл бұрын
I don’t pay any attention to how much protein or carbs that I eat, when you feel great when you wake up you just know that your diet is working great for you. I also weigh myself everyday just to make sure I stay on track and if my weight does start to creep up I make small changes, if at 19 you are already thinking about staying in great shape and feeling great as you age then you are most likely going to have a healthy life without illness.

As a Food Revolution 'lover' (where I 1st heard Dr Hyman) I must say, this interview is PERFECT. The biggie that comes up, w/ me and lots of others, is **missing meals, intermittent fasting for a day or more, causes anxiety, agitation, nervousness.** I am so addicted to the soothing pleasures of food, all organic, plant-based, fresh, flavorful (I love to create in the kitchen - a satisfying and OK part of my addiction). I am grateful I can reveal this emotional truth about myself. Writing about this is recovery, healing, the path to calm and sanity. Gary in Hilo
@Lia-hd7rh4 жыл бұрын
you can still create in the kitchen healthy meals and do intermittent fasting. if you stop eating at 8pm and don't start the next day till like 11am, you already successfully fasted all night and a little more. thats really all you need, if you do that on a regular basis.

it must be strange to have a guest on who essentially debunk's some of your books and beliefs thru scientific results....hard pill to swallow i'm sure, but this was an awesome interview packed with knowledge.
@teena4rl2115 жыл бұрын
He debunks them all in his interviews. It's amusing to watch the diet doctors' attempts to box him into agreeing with whatever diet theory they're selling in their latest book. He is having none of it. He makes no personal profit, has no motive other than to help people. They love to quote him, though. ;-)

The benefits of high carbs relies on HIGH MOVEMENT - such as the traditional activity metabolism of the YOUNG/WORKING to middle-aged. The older, more sedentary population (or early, obese, sedentary population) needs to cut back on anabolic high carb and high protein feeding, and utilize the maintenance/repair diet of high fat, mod protein, low carb

The benefits of water fasting have been studied for over 30 years at True North Health Center in Santa Rosa, Ca. Studies are ongoing, and Cornell University compiles the data and reports in the major medical journals on exactly what is being discussed here. This is not new information, it’s just information big med doesn’t Want the public to know about. Too much money in keeping us sick. I have gone to this center since 1990 to fast and heal. If you have any of the typical health issues prevalent today, this is the place to get it healed.

Started yet another Prolon 5 day fasting mimicking program today, after general fasting that has already induced autophagy, so starting ahead this time. I have achieved amazing life changing results from prior FMD, and this discussion is extremely helpful and a reminder why this is so valuable. At first glance, one might think that the box with the FMD food for 5 days is expensive--it's free! Subtract the cost of normal diet for those days and it's a wash. This works and it's not really uncomfortable compared to disease.
