I don’t know, the first story sounds like it’s missing a detail or two. The reaction of the DM sounds like he’s frustrated with a min/maxer. And that’s how the OP describes themselves; not good at roleplaying, but heavily invested in planned out combat characters. We only have their word that the rest of the party is just as strong. I agree that their class setup is pretty roll heavy, so it’s possible it just seems like they’re dominating combat by how long their turn takes in comparison to the others.
@StarrChild.2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it seems that DM doesn't want a min/maxer which is fine but he should probably explain that to OP.

The problem with this theory is that pure Battle Master Fighters, especially melee ones, are one of the worst optimized classes in the game for combat. Any spellcaster and a majority of ranged martials are better than them, and they're mid-tier in terms of all fighter subclasses. It is legitimately impossible for anyone playing a pure BM Fighter to be considered a min-maxer. It's like saying a Path of the Berserker Barbarian is somehow min-maxing because he cuts damage taken by half when raging. It requires a person to have no knowledge of game balance whatsoever to be believed.

1st Story: Getting mad at a Fighter for rolling a lot during their turn is like getting mad at the Wizard for casting spells, what's the point? It's just uncalled for, especially when other players are apparently just as strong as OP's BM Fighter. 2nd Story: Dude was a creep and the party was better off not playing with him anymore, not much else to say really. 3rd Story: Wow, rare footage of a party who recognizes and removes a problem player when they try to act like an adversarial jerk in regards to the party. Good on them for having him sleep with the fishes instead of letting him continue to ruin the game for everyone else. 4th Story: It's always a happy ending with a problem player removes themselves from the equation. I honestly wouldn't have let him get that far once it became clear that he was only in this to cause trouble for his personal amusement, but at least the table handled it well.

Story 1: Definitely try to resolve this kind of thing in private, but imho, if you're at the stage of deciding to leave the group, drag the issue out in front of the council (party). DM was being a douche. He doesn't get to come out of this clean.

As much as we're all usually inclined to side with the OPs, I can safely say that it can be frustrating to deal with one player who essentially makes a party's worth of attacks all by themselves. That being said, it doesn't seem like the DM is doing a very good job of handling it, and it kinda seems like they keep relying on Brutes too much and not mixed unit tactics or clever opponents.

This is literally all Fighters. The thing is, Fighter is one of the most basic classes in the entire game, and number of rolls aside, they often run the quickest of any character in any combat, in terms of how fast it is to finish the turn. You're essentially pointing at the entire class, the most basic and fastest to run class in the game, not just this one pure Battle Master Fighter, and saying that they're somehow frustrating because they have a high number of attacks, even when they're not nearly the highest DPR class in the game. Number of attacks don't matter here when they run faster and do less damage than almost every other class in the game.

There is this thing when it comes to fighters doing well that will trigger in some people's mind that they are "brokenly powerful". A long time ago (3.5 days) on the WotC's forums I remember a post that said something like: "any time a prestige class lets a fighter almost match a caster it is called overpowered". I just get these kind of vibes from the story.
@MyLittlePonyTheater6 ай бұрын
Yeah... even in 5e, Fighters are one of the lowest performers without specific boosts provided by other classes and special rules interpretations and allowances. Especially melee fighters. They're worse than about every caster in terms of power level.

Story 1: Giving benefit of doubt to the DM, could it be that their turns are taking forever and or forgotten things before turn-end and asked to go back repeatedly? Or even just interject over other people too quickly and rudely with off-turn actions? I've sene multiple players doing this on similar builds, and for a lot of immature DM's having players who stumble with their characters while playing more mechanically involved set-ups like a multiclassed multiple feat dual-wielding fighter can be VERY frustrating. If they feel like the pace of combat is being killed, or the flavor of encounters ruined due to how your abilities interact, they can respond negatively. This is ofcourse, unfair to the player and not something to forgive the DM for, but if it was the case simple discussion before it got this bad likely could've fixed the issue, but opening that discussion with 'it's just what my class does' or 'well I like making these kinds of characters' will come off as defensive and make the DM feel attacked for being frustrated, further hurting communication if there truly is no malevolence behind their actions. "The others do as much damage!" is one thing; the amount of actions they take could be an entirely other thing, hence why I can see less experienced DMs being iffy on such a character and getting bitchy about it. Story 2: Yeah no, this guy's just completely blind to the other players. He probably thought an adventure of saving child sex slaves would be seen by the table 'empowering' and 'righteous' not 'creepy' and 'awkward' and 'uncomfortable' while he gets to sneak his fetish into the game and giving him a chance at revenge at the hobbit player, and when no one engaged with his creepy sex pest bullshit he tried to force more sexual encounters likely to either try to play it off as jokes and just his kind of humor, or to try to punish the party as a whole for not helping him get his revenge. Story 3: The players gave the rogue a chance to come clean and be better, he got what was coming to him. Simple is as simple does. Story 4: I could see it being a troll as expected, or just someone embarrassed and ashamed their jokes didnt land and being too nervous to stick around. I've had a few players pull dumb shit that doesn't really upset or offend anyone but also doesn't land as a joke and then leave in embarrassment afterwards, so it does happen. Guess we'll never know.

Story 1: The class isn't the thing responsible for the slow-down. In my experience, even fighters with extra attacks and feats still run dramatically faster than most other classes in the game. If the BM Fighter was taking too long on their turn, it's because they're playing slow, not because their class is slow. Multiple attacks don't require ages and ages to resolve. Just a single Fireball spell from a Wizard results in a minimum of 8+number of creatures hit number of dice being rolled to determine damage, which is almost always way more than the dice rolled by a 5th-level dual wielder fighter.

Huh, two stories of players becoming DM's to seek revenge. First stories OP sounds tedious as hell. His entire story screams if "that guy at the con who is going to tell you ALL ABOUT his character." I'm not sure why the DM has had enough of this player, but what the OP may want to do is ask the other players. If the hostility is this overt, the rest of the players know about it.

First story: My advice for OP would be to a) talk to the DM like an adult. There is a chance he thinks he’s being funny and doesn’t even realize he’s hurting your feelings. If that doesn’t work, try b) if you really love the group when this guy isn’t DMing and don’t want to leave everyone else over this, bow out of that campaign without leaving the group itself. Just say something like: “I don’t think my playstyle meshes well with his DMing style.” I’m sure they’ll understand the concept of not being a good fit, and you can come back when it’s someone else’s turn to DM. Of course, if you’re worried about hurting someone’s feelings with that, you can always just say you need a break from D&D, pull out of this campaign, and come back refreshed for the next one! Second story: “If you could do anything you want with magic, how long before you start indulging yourself…” Yikes. That little statement kind of says a lot about this guy. The idea that if people could do whatever they wanted, they’d become r@pists and murderers… to paraphrase someone more eloquent than me, I’ve already r@ped and murdered as many people as I’ve wanted to-none! A big, fat zero! That number should not be bigger than zero for anyone! This guy has some serious issues. Third story: I mean, problems like this really should be solved with an out-of-game conversation, not an in-game punishment. I also question why the DM let this go on for two hours-two hours in which the party could have been doing something fun-instead of telling McEdgelord no. However, I will admit that it was funny to see the party handle McEdgelord exactly the way you would expect pirates with access to magic to handle a crew member who was trying to sabotage them. Fourth story: Yeah, I would have shut this guy down immediately when he started sending me kobold p0rn, but then again, my group probably has stricter boundaries than OP’s when it comes to sexual content. Joe’s behavior in the actual game sounded annoying, but nowhere near as bad as a lot of other problem players. Good thing he left on his own before things had a chance to get worse!

What is the first DM’s problem? Martials are some of the weakest classes in relative terms, they need fun tricks and feats in order for them to keep up with someone doing something as simple as casting fireball. It’s also really easy for smart opponents not to trigger sentinel

If a Fighter attacking 2-5 times in one turn is too spicy for that GM, they should probably consider handing the reigns to someone who doesn't get tilted over such petty crap. This is the equivalent of getting passive aggressive over a Wizard casting fireball and nuking a group of goblins or a troll or something. This isn't some super esoteric strat that they figured out after crawling around charops forums or subreddits, this is a basic as basic gets strategy that anyone can utilize just by reading their abilities beforehand.

Just the thoughts of a drunk french guy.... Story one sucks for OP... Maybe he is too slow at rolling all the dices and the DM thinks it slows the game as well? Maybe, in this case the DM should have been a lot more explicit instead of being passive aggresive. Story two: OP is assuming the thought of other people... To be honest this story did not have much horror... The DM was just new and tried something that he thought would be traumatising for all players before realizing he went too far and transformed it into a joke one shot... he wanted for the player to kill the bad guy and OP completely missed the point, thinking there was grudge where there was not... Story three is fun, good DM, good players... PvP should not have been allowed that easily but I guess the group did not like this player to begin with... Waiting for the horror story on the other side Store four: Why do people always see other like enemies always here to embarrass them?! As a player I did a lot of worst and unredeemable things than that to my DMs and they did the same hen I was Dming... Without even trying to do anything wrong... This is really soft if you want to embarrass a DM. Maybe he just has life himself or did not enjoy the game? OP jumping to conclusion are just here way too often, just like story 2. I guess this is hard to make things interesting but they may try a bit better than paranoia sometimes... The kitty was super cute though. I like those videos! Thanks a lot for providing the content even though it feel like I am ranting about the OPs! Good work.
