Sunny is a trans person living in Pakistan. She begs in order to survive. Others get by as sex workers or dancers. As an expert for transgender issues at the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Reem Sharif found a way to support her community.
Trans people in Pakistan are frequently cast out by their families and live in poverty. They can find safe spaces and a new family in special centers. Here, they do not have to hide and discover that they are not alone in their fight for survival and recognition in Pakistan’s conservative society.
Only around 10 thousand people of Pakistan’s population of 220 million are officially counted as members of the “third gender,” yet it’s estimated that the true figure may be as high as 300 thousand.

@@pimpinaintdeadho That's easier said than done. Our passport rate is abysmal and we are one of the most despised country in the world. Not easy to get away. I pity them because there's no equal treatment for people like them. I am very lucky as in my country, the Philippines 🇵🇭, we are treated equally. Transgenders have rights and discrimination is not tolerated. In our office, we have a lot of Transgenders and we excel in every field. I just hope that all people would be open minded and treat every human being normally. If this happens, what a wonderful world we would have. ❤️ ❤❤

@@shahrukhkhan8307 I'm not sure it's a transgender counting olympic competition, but I take your point. That said, Trans people have been in North America with the Native Americans since they walked across the land bridge from Siberia thousands of years ago. You can still see them today (the Two Spirit people). That said, sure, I have no doubt that trans people have been in Pakistan longer since it was settled far earlier in human development. There are lots of trans people in both countries and it's unfortunate that many people in the west do not realize this. How many trans people per capita would you estimate in Pakistan? 1 in 200? 1 in 400? I realize there probably isn't any actual census or survey data on this.

I am deeply hurt by the accusations and discrimination against people of different cultures, races, and religions in our society. The root cause of this problem is the lack of education and awareness about diversity and inclusion. It's essential that we all take responsibility for educating ourselves and improving our understanding of other cultures. However, the question remains, how can we achieve this? We need collective action as a society to address this issue, rather than just relying on individual efforts. Unfortunately, even some of the groups that identify as 'we' face discrimination, making it even more challenging to achieve true equality and respect for all

Im a Pakistani born and raised guy. This documentary is both sad and equally positive, in that coming across transgender people in day to day life is a norm for most urban Pakistanis, as generally the community is openly welcomed at weddings and equally found on streets shopping and getting on with life. Attitudes will surely change with normalisation of the community taking up more responsible and professional roles. There is now likes of Dr Meerub and others who are well educated, articulate professionals braving their way into spheres once considered untouchable for the rest of the transgender or even LGBTQ community. Eventually, we all need to love and respect other human beings for just that fact, regardless of their gender or personal life choices.

Parents are more tolerant for trans 'daughters' and the society treats cross dressing women better so they are able to express themselves without being disowned and telling the world they are trans they can just cut their hair short and cross dress and live their life as another Pakistani would. *It is one thing to be gay and lesbian, but that is something that is innate in people who have a different heart and soul, being a homosxual is LITERALLY as natural as being straight. If Allah created humans (which I think most people in Pakistan believes) and some of those are straight, so then same being also created the homosxuals, like bcz if being straight is natural then having different feelings than the straight people is natural too. Different feelings, different hearts and minds, different souls can therefore be Naturally attracted to each other.*

Why is it in Thailand, you can't tell the guys from the girls, but everywhere else, it looks like a man in a wig? 😬 I mean, I know men are built different in Thailand, but damn...

I like transgendered people. They are unique and seem happier even though some struggle internally. They fascinate me and I think many would be ok with that.

Transgender ppl tend to do ra** crimes equal to the number of what straight ppl do , the number of trans ppl is much less than straight ppl , transgender aren't happy, they want attention and fame and want to feel special , this is why they would never find real happiness

First of all I will like to say nice and educative documentary. And its just wowing me because Pakistan is welcoming transgender as a norm, I am from Nigeria who base in UAE but I know how my friends who is back home is going through alot of harrasment from people and no law to protect them. You know with this documentary my mentality about pakistani has change and I might likely visit this country for my next vacation. One love ❤

I'm from Nigeria too but I'm based in Nigeria itself. In some parts of the south and south west ; LGBTQ people are being normalized. There are trans women opening boutiques and doing hairdressing around Ikeja in Lagos. We are even starting to appear in major podcasts and talkshows. I'm out to my coursemates at school and although there's religious bias , many of them tolerate me compared to 4 years ago when I was in secondary school. It's Terrible for the south south and the north though 🥲, the north is still intolerant

@@littlesunshine4591 I met some trans women from Ikeja last Summer. They are open, with good careers. It was very interesting for me to be exposed to a whole network of open LGBTQ people in Nigeria. I do fear from their safety as their usually underprivileged or without strong skills and disowned. I hope Africa is more embracing. It's ironic because traditional African religions across most of its cultures recognized bisexuality and no-gender identities often as spiritual conduits. Peace and love from Ghana

@@littlesunshine4591 the North is most tolerant of sexual diversity than anywhere in Nigeria. Perhaps make some research about the queer (yan Daudu) community in the North

@@mandegandi3068 That was in the past , now Yan daudau are criminalized and I have a Yan daudau friend who was killed there. There's strict enforcement of the Shaira law in the north now and the insecurities have not make it easier.

I think it's good to see they're having progress to have equality and also some in the society accept them, struggling yes they have to struggle as part of the process to get fully acceptance - but other conservative countries could have been worse than what in Pakistan ❤️❤️❤️ full love and support to them 🙏
