A true hero would have told them they would probably die if operated on. The doctors knew that going in. Their arrogance led them to think they could separate them. A doctors oath is to “First do no harm”. I think killing two adult women is doing harm. Doctors and nurses have a duty to be realistic with their patients; and we have a duty to tell them the truth even if the truth hurts.

All operations will have their pros and cons weighed out and patients fully informed of all possible outcomes before the decision is finally made for the go ahead; let alone an operation of this scale. One can only begin to imagine what it’s like to be stuck to another human being for your entire life. The pain, frustration, hopelessness to name a few(mentioned in the video that the twins has suffered from depression as well). So unless you are a conjoined twin yourself you will never fully understand how they were feeling at the time in order for them to make such a life changing decision of putting all their trusts and hopes into a team of doctors and possibly never waking up again from their decision . RIP 🙏

And the twins had discussed that subject themselves LONG before doctors got involved. They were going to be separated even if it meant dying, because life joined together was no longer an option either of them was willing to accept. They made that decision years before they started meeting with doctors. And it is the reason Dr. Goh took months to decide whether or not he was willing to attempt surgery. If the twins were able to speak now they would tell the world that they have NO regrets, and that they do NOT hold the surgical team responsible for their deaths. This was a decision that they faced and decided on long before surgery.

I remember when they passed - my mum was following the surgery religiously. I returned from school to see my mum broken-hearted. All she said when I looked at her with concern was "They didn't make it" then she wiped a single tear and asked if I was hungry.

That is not true. The fact they shared one major vein is what was the problem. The previous doctor who reviewed this knew it was not possible because they shared that drainage vein. He mentioned the pressure because in a few years the growing pressure could cause their death anyways so he’s trying to feel less guilty about their death. He shouldn’t feel guilt and no one should blame him for trying. They couldn’t live that way anymore. They knew what they wanted. They are with God now in peace.

It wasn’t as much tolerance as much as they had nothing to do but accept anything and everything since they had zero say about anything done to them or their daughters who were stolen from them as newborns. They accept everything without question because they have no other choice as the story goes on to explain. They never had any say in what happened so since their girls birth. I firmly believe they either accepted or as past storeirs have shown people get imprisoned for life or worse death!! I remember the huge coverage this story received back in the days and what struck me, beside the peculiarity of the condition, was how beautiful they were. The tragedy of pioneering surgeries of this scale is that there is no precedent to draw experience from and doctors, no matter how reputed, find themselves entirely into uncharted territory. Medicine has advanced immensely in late years, so looking back on it I don't know what is more heartbreaking, the thought that it ended as it did or that, had they struggled maybe a few more years, a successful separation may have been possible.

This was heartbreaking. Right after surgery, when one twin died, my heart went out to the other twin, about how she would have to live without her twin, but then she died. These young ladies were so inspiring, to me. Not letting a disability get them down they went to law school. While many with no disability sit back, and whine. They were really out there in the world, being an asset, making a difference. They were so vibrant, and alive I really and truly thought they would survive, after the surgery. This made me very sad. And you sure can't blame the doctors. The moment I saw the head doctor I could tell just by his calm speaking, he was a good doctor, who did things methodical, and not just jumping up doing something. Then picked other doctors, from around the world, to assist. They had the very, very best, but it was just such a complicated, and delicate surgery. They were beautiful sisters, and they did more in their lifetime, than many of us have done, in ours. They will be remembered. ✌🏽❤🙏🏻🌷🌲Rest in PARADISE sweethearts, where you'll be given new bodies.🌷🌲

These doctors did a wonderful job supporting the two women, and trying to help them live as they truly wanted to. Despite things not going as planned, those wonderful women wanted their dream, and these physicians tried to make that dream come true. I’m glad they were together. I think that’s how they would have wanted it.

I saw the story of these young ladies when they had just died, and have watched this video several times over the years since. I still cry every time I watch this. It breaks my heart that they couldn't be separated. No matter what, they still would have been connected. By the heart. You could tell how much they loved each other. God bless them.

The doctor is great. He should think that both of them thought that upon waking up they were going to be separated.. I knew from the get go they would die from the comments but I still cried from the pain so many felt for their lose. Two courageous individuals who entered this hectic world together and went back home together. I have not spoken to my only sister for over 4 years and at 45 I dread the thought of leaving this plane without speaking, hugging her and saying I love you like we did when we did speak. @@TraceySatan I've reached out to my sister, only because our mother passed on March 03, 2022. When we are together is as we were as kids... we laugh, gossip and are playful too, although at times misunderstanding can also happen and I'm learning to simply be patient and be the bigger person and let go of arguments. I believe we both have suffered tremendously from that which made us separate, one being our mother so it's interesting to see she united us, ironically, in death. We have quiet alot to mend but I feel we are off to a good start. This last four months have been tough in so many ways do to our mother's passing and our own personal lives but I'm positive we will be alright. Thank you guys for asking, I appreciate y'all. 🙏

I love this documentary, even though it ends very sad. I can’t help to think that the twins (if they knew the surgery would fail), they wouldn’t have done it. Clearly they were willing to die trying. It’s kind of unfortunate. They were extremely brave women. Sometimes I watch this documentary when I’m feeling down and start thinking I have it hard in life (born with a chronic disease). It reminds me that good people out there have it much harder. It’s incredibly impressive the confidence, and inner and outter strength these women had.

I was actually surprised the doctors were willing to separate them,..its just so risky.. But in the end they were separated and buried in two separate graves side by side...

@@sandisandii2033 it was TOP NOTCH surgeons from all over the world that took on the challenge of separating these twins (free of charge). Including Ben Carson (American brain surgeon that ran for the presidency recently) along with many other highly skilled doctors. If the doctors succeeded at this separation, they would become beyond famous… it’s why they do that. But yeah it was risky. Most Siamese twins I hear are better off separated when they are much younger. I can’t help but wonder, if heaven or an afterlife exists, are these women separated or conjoined in the afterlife?? ❤️

What courageous, inspiring and beautiful young women they had become. I'm devastated to know that they were not able to live with their successful separation and enjoy physical autonomy. Their incredible struggle and yet, almost always smiling, despite the strain it was having on them both. How wonderful it was to witness the deeply caring and nurturing approach the doctors took and it really shows me that not all doctors understand what a precious and important skill they possess. I so wish they would have made it. The world is at a greater loss without them in it.

I was very struck by the head Dr's insight. He could read twin's personality and profile very quickly Ladan was outgoing yet its just putting on act. Lalei was an actual dominant. Both had own personality and were very lovely. They were funny too. Very inspiring...

I was 7 when they came to Singapore. The news reported them as two beautiful, educated, independent girls who just knew what they wanted to do with their lives. I remember seeing in the news that one wanted to be a lawyer and the other wanted to be a journalist. So, in my very young, immature and naive mind, I imagined two pretty Kaka (as we'd often call Muslim girls older than ourselves here) prancing around, separated. In my head, the lawyer twin was going to be all solemn and strict while the journalist twin was going to report on everything she wanted the world to see. All I saw on TV after a few months, however, were these Kakas carried out in their separate caskets. Even then I cried, I hadn't quite been able to fully comprehend the concept of death, being just 7. Now that I'm 20 and finally seeing this again (after having avoided the video for quite a while), I cried. I cried again for the two Kakas that had sort of stepped into my life for a while. I believe that it was Laleh that'd planted the seed to my wanting to become an author - naturally, I was in tears again.

I was hoping that these 2 women were still alive but I became suspicious while watching the first half because I didn't see any footage of them separated, so I had a feeling they didn't make it. I held onto the hope that they survived and now I'm heartbroken. They seemed like kind and intelligent women, they deserved so much more from life. Rest in peace Ladan and Laleh. Such inspiring ladies. They made the decision to separate even if it meant dying. Their journey together as one unit had come to an end. They quit the life they had for a chance at the one they wanted. How many people with a 100% chance of survival, quit their old useless life to start over a new one? To be able to give up what we know for the unknown is truly courageous. These ladies are truly role models, they made the decision to go after the life they would love, even if it meant dying. But honestly, if I were them, I would have chosen the mindset of humility and gratitude, to accept what I had and to continue living.

I don’t remember ever hearing of this story so I wasn’t familiar with it when I began watching the documentary. These two beautiful young ladies showed such courage with boundless energy and unyielding faith. About mid way through the video, I found myself praying they would make it through, that they would find a doctor willing to perform the surgery and both come out of it separated and healthy…but I knew the chances were slim when I realized that there was no footage of them after the fact. I hoped it was just because they didn’t want to give the ending away and saved the best part for last but in my heart I knew that probability was slim. In their young lives, they have touched and had a profound affect on everyone who knew them and even some who did not. God bless their beautiful souls 🙏🏻

The parents had to track their own children down. I know they were poor but it seemed like they had little choice to be involved with their girls. The mother awoke after giving birth and her girls were already taken away.
