something I wanna mention: in the ocg, there was a spellbook blue eyes deck in judgement ruler format way back in 2013. it was the usual spellbook deck where, instead of jowgen being summoned via judgement, they would summon maiden with eyes of blue to tank whatever dragonrulers would throw. I dont know if I remember this correctly tho Then they eventually switched to jowgen kycoo.

Jesse Ritchie I can’t find his exact decklist because it was a random regional event, not an actually big event. Still, you can find a lot of deck lists similar to it if you just google “Blue-Eyes Senet Switch.” I mostly remember it because it was so funny to see someone winning an actual tournament with such a shitty strategy. It was from before any of the other “Eyes of Blue” cards came out, so Blue-Eyes was a very casual deck and it never did anything else until the other support came out

Summoned skull was a corner stone of my beat down deck back in 2002
@diophantine6677
@diophantine6677 5 жыл бұрын
Blue-Eyes was an OK strategy that sometimes worked in the very first format (the one which Summoned Skull is good). It's probably the worst out of the viable strategies (classic Summoned Skull beatdown and Stall), but it can work sometimes. For those of you that care, the idea is to Special Summon multiple Dragons (Blue-Eyes, Tri-Horned Dragon, even Curse of Dragon) with Flute of Summoning Dragon. Because of the way Last Will worked in that format, you couldn't make the most out of Lord of D., so it was a bit difficult to pull off. If you could get multiple big dragons on the field, however, they could be very difficult to deal with if your opponent has already used their Raigeki and Dark Hole, as Lord of D. gives them target protection, most removal cards are one-for-ones, and of course they can beat over anything.
@noukan42
@noukan42 5 жыл бұрын
Honestly, in middle school we somewhat understood card advantage enought to collectively decide that bewd was garbage(it was less -2 and more "you tribute 2 monster to get your dragon killed by trap hole.), but recently i realized that with our limited card pool(just one kid had summoned skull for example,guess who was the strongest player) it was a good choice, because everyone was running few monster removals.
@diophantine6677
@diophantine6677 5 жыл бұрын
@@noukan42 if played right and with a little luck the dragons can be very hard to deal with, but yeah they aren't consistent because they can brick a lot of the time. More often than not the other strategies in that format are better.

Great video man, but the deck isnt dead without dark matter. ib gave great support there are 1 card combos with draconet or you could just play more lvl 4 dangers to use with the blue eyes tuners and effect veiler. but i agree with dark matter the deck was even stronger. you just needed 2 lvl 8s and it was game
@vareos9874
@vareos9874 5 жыл бұрын
@@LegendaryAntiHero lol it was haha. The dark matter deck was really nuts. 1st dark matter sends 2 guardragons and destrudo to grave. You get your guardragon combo from that. Then later with redmd you revive the cipher and make your 2nd dark matter sending goliath ark brave and e.g. world chalice guardragon to the grave. During the combo you also went into 2 saryujas so you drew alot of cards. In the last step you can then revive the arkbrave with return of the dragon lords to go into borreload savage. It was really consistent and you ended every time with 2 lvl 8s, a dark matter, a borrel savage, a hieratic seal and because goliath and arkbrave were in grave you also got the free goliath during the standby phase of your enemy. 6 massive disruptions enabled with any 2 lvl 8s. And you played all lvl 8 dangers and blue eyes so that was really no issue haha

Jokes aside, people actually feared The Big Saturn I had in middle school (7-8 years ago), both in school and in my neighborhood. We couldn't really read english so we thought it dealt the damage any time it was destroyed by anything so it was one of the very few ways (still only happened like once in 15 games or so) to legitimately OTK someone by attacking him directly and then destroying the card by tributing it or using stuff like dark hole. I remember just looking at the card before I went to sleep every night haha I hope it gets reprinted some day just for nostalgia sake as I lost mine.

In the video, you said that blue eyes was the top tier deck for a couple months during its peek, and then after that it became a rouge deck, but was it because blue eyes was hit on the banlist (directly or indirectly) or because it was just powercrept. What was the reasoning for its downfall?

It probably doesn't enough material to make a video since it was 1 of the original ban card, the martial we have about it is mostly lost in time since there is no KZbin or Twith back then

Personally I use a Danger! Blue eyes deck. I just work so well with it. All my friends with competetive decks just get steamrolled.

I like this video, but I really would have liked to have some indications of time. You keep saying things like "when X card(s) came out, this happened", but especially as someone who hasn't played the TCG in years but still wants to know about this stuff, it feels a little shallow to me if I don't have an indicator of time. A quick "when X card came out [in September of 2014 or March of 2016 or whatever]" would really help me put things into a historical time perspective. Keep it up dzeeff
