This is an Earth Element qigong practice for the stomach and spleen meridians, filmed spontaneously while on a recent walk in the English countryside (excuse my hiking boots and frumpy sweater!). My hope is that these practices can offer a visual aid and support to the forms described in my book, Qigong and the Tai Chi Axis. The book is now available worldwide, including in the United States and Canada. Hope you enjoy it!

If you observe nature, a squirrel is more apt for that position than a monkey. I have not seen a monkey do the monkey style. But, squirrels do that very often especially when they want are wary of predator..

Ah! You were a professional photographer! No wonder all your videos are exquisitely composed, with gorgeous lighting. "...the balance of playfulness and precision..." Equally applicable to good photography as to QIgong. I've been a photographer for 35 years, been doing Qigong for two months.

coincidence: I have been doing various of your 8 pieces and your bone marrow cleanse for 10 years? I include the bone marrow cleanse in my very small rural tai ji class. Surprise, recently I stumbled on your Stanford class. I am BS Chemistry 1962, Stanford. While I struggled with health and the weight of science curriculum, I went on to grad school PhD in Forestry, UBC Canada 1980. I am working on your 5 element axis and reading your book with pleasure. Thank you Mimi. So much I love about your videos including your sense of fun and hypnotic voice with soothing explanations. Today, with the advent of spring I changed to this Earth practice after having practiced the forms in your water element video over the winter. Is there a recommendation with what to do in which season? I’m taking cues from your videos judging by the weather. Or is it more about what our mind body or spirit needs? so it it more about tuning in and asking for inner guidance as to where to go next with the practice? I particularly liked cheeky monkey in this form as I tend to hold a lot tension in my neck and shoulders, I felt a rush of Qi while doing this - most awesome. Great Descriptions of the exercises, it helps people that cannot rely too much on their sight. The Monkey exercise activated my body heat in a very interesting way, felt it coming from my stomach and spreading out... thanks.

Thank you for this treasure! I have been choosing between the four elements and deciding which one fits for me.. i want to focus on one. I have chosen earth element to help me keep my emotions balanced.. and to keep grounded as I’m getting a bit over excited about life right now and then i get ungrounded. I must say, that monkey ‘pose’ was just so so funny, especially how cute you did it! It felt reallly good… i never saw anything like that before.. i will embrace the monkey! :)
