If someone doesn’t have trauma from child sexual abuse (never heard of this happening), that doesn’t mean it was a positive experience. Personally, I didn’t have memories of my CSA until last year (as a 22 y/o), but I’ve still had the effects of trauma my entire life (hyper-vigilance, fear around male authority figures, substance abuse, panic attacks, etc.) My brain just created dissociative barriers to protect itself.
@brynsvasand10 ай бұрын
I agree or I assume some psychological manipulation such as grooming which from my understanding can be revalidated to self as an adult as apart of denial. It always manifests into their lives as adults in other ways if not traditionally acknowledged as “trauma”. Such a crazy statement to pretend that it doesn’t impact them is so absolutely psychopathic to say and straight up delusional! Also I wish you much healing and I’m sorry people say such insensitive stuff to down play something they would never know about. Family wishing you well🫶🏼
@gamingwhilebroken235510 ай бұрын
I can see someone not having trauma from a CSA as some people can go through horrific experiences and come out the other side without trauma. Trauma is actually one of the things psychology kinda scratches its head on as two people who are very similar can have different reactions to the same experience (one is traumatized and the other isn’t). We do know there are some risk factors and some protective factors, but even then some can have none of the known risk factors and all of the known protective factors and still be traumatized (and the reverse as well, someone can have all of the risk factors and none of the protective and not be traumatized. It really is one where it’s kinda like, “huh, that’s weird.”) However, my guess is that survivors of CSA are still negatively impacted even though it doesn’t rise to the level of trauma. I wouldn’t call this CSA, but when I was 14 I went to a gay club (I got in illegally as I looked older than I was and they were pretty laxed) and these two men (easily in their 50s) were very aggressive. They kept grabbing me to pull me closer, grinding, and one put his hands down my pants. It was distressing for sure and I was trying to find a means to exit that situation. Luckily some guy noticed my distress and by pretending to be my bf got them to back off (these guys were persistent) and then got me out of the club. He said I was too young to be there and gave me a ride home (I know that was also not my best decision I made that night, but I was 14). Well like four blocks from my house as I wasn’t out and I did not want to explain to my parents who this 6’8” jacked shirtless black man in his early 30s was or why I was in a car with him lol. I was scared and distressed by that experience and I felt a bit silly that I thought going was a good idea, but never had any signs of trauma. And I went back like 18 months later when I was 16, but I had put on a fair amount of muscle by then so that didn’t happen again.
@emmettdonkeydoodle623010 ай бұрын
So, the reason he says for some kids it is a positive experience is because there was a series of studies that actually showed this. Of course due to the implications of these studies the entire psychological community freaked out and demanded they be removed from journals (and they were). However, the results still stand. As many as a third of children that have sexual experience with adults will view the experience in a positive way. I’ve met people like this too and it boggles my mind as a CSA survivor how someone can genuinely not only not have trauma from the experience, but to view it fondly. The reasons researchers theorize this can happen has to do with two things. The first being simply that not every seemingly traumatic experience will feel like or be stored as trauma by the person experiencing it. This goes for many things we view as traumatic (war, car accidents, house fires, DV, etc). The other factor is there is a majority of children that experience pleasure during the abuse because the element of the abuse is the exploitation rather than force or coercion, and thus the child only feels like something is wrong based on other people’s reactions to the situation. Researchers think those that do not develop trauma and also received pleasure from the experience are most likely to view the experience positively. I know it sounds insane, but the research really is solid on that and I do think it shouldn’t be shunned because that is placing a moral statement on people I would still consider to be victims of CSA (even if they don’t see it that way).
@MaVyvy10 ай бұрын

I don't understand how your conclusion would be "This bad thing is illegal and this one isn't, therefore they should both be legal" rather than "they should both be illegal". Why stop at CP? Why not just legalise literally everything if that's the argument, it's such a bizarre take
@seanceknowles291110 ай бұрын
Exactly. But he knows that. Or else he wouldn’t have thrown there that it can POSSIBLY be good for maybe one child. The thing is that children know better. Children are not sexual, till puberty and even then it takes time. I have read plenty about the horrors of CSAM ( child sexual abuse material) as a mom I have to stay vigilant. CP is always violent. They aren’t going off to get a wedding and have a family. CP is about destruction of said child. In every way. All CP has torture, most end up with death. Monsters who are attracted to children are not normal, they don’t want the normal. They are depraved. Wanting a child bride to r word and torture and possibly kill legally. This is something that people should realize. They can’t have a normal relationship because they are fucked. So his takes all of them no do not make sense and are not justifiable in any sense whatsoever.
@PJ-yi8cn10 ай бұрын
That's literally the actual take if you watch the old debates, btw. Something the dude has explained a million times afterward. The point is to show both should be illegal because they're both child exploitation, the fact you heard a literal out of context comp of clips where he says sus stuff before it cuts to another thing, and took that as a good faith argument is, quite frankly, concerning.

@rcm_kem and I will add that it was a sus statement, but it was an explanation of the difference between act and rule utilitarianism, and why rule utilitarianism is better *because* it focuses more on a broader scope than "well what if individually this" like act utilitarianism can end up doing. Ironically enough, it seems the example stuck in Ethan's head enough for him to learn what rule utilitarianism is and how it works.

@SleekDiamond4110 ай бұрын
@@ssach7 he says explicitly that he has heard no good argument as to why possession of CP should be illegal. His point is that possession of a computer is morally no different from possession of CP, since both were produced by child abuse. To accept the one and not the other would be hypocritical. In terms of utilitarianism, owning a computer allows Vaush to promote his message, which in his mind is a positive that outweighs the harm he created by exploiting child labor. Pray tell: what positive outcome of CP ownership outweighs the harm of its creation? Computer ownership is (by Vaush’s logic) a *necessary* evil. CP ownership is an *unnecessary* evil. All of that is ignoring the fact that Vaush has previously argued that hypocrisy doesn’t matter, only doing good matters. If we use his logic from then, Vaush already debunks his argument defending CP ownership. Even if we ignore the allegations of Vaush’s sexual predilections, his argumentation is idiotic. It’s just bad logic. PS: and no, he was not discussing philosophy and used CP as an extreme example. He was defending owning CP, then transitioned to (vapid) philosophy discussion separately. A discussion where he argued that he personally is totally, definitely against CP ownership, even though (according to him) there’s no valid reason to oppose CP ownership. You’re not just removing it from context, you’re reversing the context.

I have yet to see a convincing legal or moral argument to defend Ethan from the accusations of sniffing his finger.
@tomcuthbert-sayers145110 ай бұрын
You are all idiots and here's why: There exists another world whereby it could have been possible for Ethan not to sniff his finger, despite its being inherently a despicable act. Indeed, aliens could have come to Earth and said to Ethan, "sniff you finger or else the whole planet gets exterminated". In such a case, one could permit Ethan to sniff his finger, despite its being a human rights violation. But such an argument amounts to 'act utilitarianism'. In other words, there exists at least one case whereby doing such and such is morally and legally justifiable. Most importantly, however, it depends on the case. But if so, then such must also be so for CP. Aliens could come to Earth and say to one, "get CP or else I will kill your entire family". In short, if you defend Ethan from the accusation of sniffing his finger, then, ipso facto you are defending CP.

I got home from the hospital today after delivering my baby a few days ago. I'm so grateful for how much this episode cheered me up, I'm in so much pain after being in labour for a week to then have my waters break and need an emergency c section where they've cracked my ribs and my hips were already out of their sockets and not staying in. I have no painkillers because opioids are the only thing on offer and I can't breathe on them so I'm trying to get through this with no pain relief. I'm in so so much pain and love my daughter so much but just needed a good distraction to make me feel human while I got in some cuddles. My neighbour on the recovery bay named her son Oliver and we had the curtains closed but I could not stop laughing (my sibling is also called Oliver and my partner has two cousins called Oliver too, very popular name in england!). Anyway, thanks for a good show, good mood definitely put me in a better place!

A comparison will never be perfectly 1 to 1, but the point you are making about chocolate or other commodities is pretty weak, especially when people are made aware of the harm caused in its production. Some people simply don't know, but for millions of people in the west-- that is not the case and it is disingenuous to for the H3 crew to pretend that people don't know about the problem. The ethical issue at hand is the harm caused to the victims. The point is that most people in a capitalist society would rather support industries that utilize exploitation and slavery of children than deal with the inconvenience of ethical consumption.

But broadly we know it was horrifically bad and caused such great harm not just to the victims but that harm spread generationally and through communities. The CP comments seems similar. 3:28:16 This doesn't mean much in light of the topic of the folder, but vaush was not chatting with his fans here. The massages are from 2018, vaush didn't start Youtubing until 2019, these are from Destiny's old discord server.

I mean you right but at the same time uhh shows his obsession with horse 🍆 🐎. Which, we hate beastiality and their fans here lol

Yeah "this isn't from his own discord it's from the discord he was banned from for being a sex pest" isnt the best defense.

@@colamity_5000 how you could have read that into my comment and think I'm somehow presenting a defense of his behavior is beyond me. Did you just dislike that I was presenting a correction, to a misconception, Ethan had?

An entire episode calling vaush a ped. This is wild. Why? It's really messed up.
