@@AutoEdits I love the videos...I wanted some more pep to my 3.6 2016 JK and I purchased a Livernois racing tune for the Jeep JK and absolutely love it. I'm not a sponsor or employee of them...but, just a customer that loved their product. Look into doing a video for a tune...I'm very happy I purchased it and installed it! My Horsepower is now probably around 345!

I've been rocking this intake for about 10 years on my 12 jk 2dr 6 speed along with a superchip 93 octane tune and Dynomax shorty exhaust and its been absolutely awesome. Better sound, better MPG ( I'f you can stay off the gas) and most importantly more power! I never hesitate to do this combo on any vehicle I own. they just run better too.

I put that intake on my 2012 jku, love the sound. I used a oiled k&n filter and was easy to take apart for service. My only problem with it is that you should stay out of water that's not more than a flooded street. I may have been going a little fast and water might have been a little deep but a tacoma went through it and I also did about half way. Then trailered to a rebuilt engine. I like banks products and this one is good as long as you aint playing in alot of water. In case anyone wondering there was no water in the interior.

As JustNobodyButMe pointed out by molding the plastic housing with a heat gun would have maintained the cold air flow as Banks designed it. Now what you did allows hot air off the radiator to contaminate the cold air flow. I would try adding some sort of a cover over the area you cut out. Even if you used some of the Flex Seal tape to modify the opening would be better than leaving it open. Banks products are the best designed and tested before getting released to the public. Good video!

I ran this intake on my jku for a couple of years and there are some pros and cons. Pros are it sounds amazing and on the highway with good air flow. You definitely feel the increased horsepower and torque. The cons are if you're stuck in traffic or on a trail and the filter is sucking in hot air. You will actually notice less throttle response and less power. If you're doing water fording situations, there's a hole in the bottom of the air box where water can get in at a lower depth than the stock air box. Made me very nervous when I was doing the Rubicon.

When I bought my 13 JK a few years ago, it had an AIRAID Cold Air Intake System by K&N. It worked fine until I started adding items requiring power and I discovered the air box interfered with my power distribution box. I could only raise the lid about a 1/4". I ended up breaking a couple tabs on the lid so I could remove it which meant I could not get a good seal when closed. I called Airaid about the problem and their solution was to remove the box so I could check fuses, what a pain in the ass. I ended up going back to the stock set up with a snorkel.
@AutoEdits7 күн бұрын
That does sound frustrating... I think going with a snorkel was a good call.
@TheRambler-pz1gx7 күн бұрын
That extra bit on the underside of the intake tube isnt for sound. It is for when you suck up water it goes into those voids.
@AutoEdits7 күн бұрын
That could be a by product of the chamber but it is an actual Helmholtz chamber for sound control.
@JustNobodyButME8 күн бұрын
i wonder if you could have just used a heat gun and molded the box around the other stuff in the way. Great video. Banks is definitely top notch stuff.

In regards to the issues with gunk build up on your throttle body. Have you considered installing an Oil Catch Can.
@AutoEdits7 күн бұрын
Excellent suggestion, I only had that gunk when I ran the k&n filter. Plus, the PCV valve is only a year old and is doing its job at the moment 👍

I bought a 2014 Rubicon that had a so-called cold air intake and a resonator/ muffler, all Banks brand. Inspection of the intake convinces me it has no advantage over the OEM intake. There is no way it gets cold air any more than the OEM. The exhaust system just makes an irritating noise, and I will be replacing it. It interferes with listening to the radio.

How about a tune to go with it
@AutoEdits8 күн бұрын
I ran a 91 octane tune for a year or so when I got the old CAI and found that the only time a tune felt slightly more powerful was on the highway and didn't matter at all off road. So it was much less complicated to just put it back to the stock tune and run regular unleaded all the time.
@kewlguyryan8 күн бұрын
Do you have to undo everything just to change the filter?
@AutoEdits8 күн бұрын
Yes, but I did a practice run and it took less than a minute to undo one clamp at the throttle body, unhook air temp, pcv and loosen the filter clamp. Took me longer to type this than actually do it... so I'm good with it.
@Stuka878 күн бұрын
If you went through a deep puddle on the road that caused a lot of spray, does it look like that would go up into the air cleaner with it not having a bottom? Thats my main concern about moving to an after market air cleaner. I don't do deep water crossing. But hitting 6" of standing water on a road is kind of common in the winter here.
@AutoEdits8 күн бұрын
I have hit several big water pools at speed with the other open bottom CAI over the years and have not had a problem with water getting in there.
@robognu50007 күн бұрын
I’ve had this same kit in my jk for over 8 years. No issues with water getting in. I’ve hit deeper water than expected several times and it made me nervous about it, so I’m more cautious now. It been fine. And it sounds great. I even went back to my factory exhaust in order to hear the intake better😅

Im glad i live in a state that doesn't restrict your personal decisions about what you want to do to your vehicles!!!! Especially with all the emissions restrictions!!!!
@biz4twobiz4637 күн бұрын
I bet your lungs are happy too?!? CA and NY, for example, have so many people and vehicles, it is necessary to have these emission standards. Or else, the air would be unhealthy to breath and cause people to have health issues. If you do not believe me, then go live in China (pick a nice huge city)...and try to live there for a year or two. Besides the smog and not being able to enjoy the sun... your lungs would feel it...IMO.
