What a blessing that I came across this video! Yesterday, me and my friend were making apple crumble for a group of 18, none of us did it before... and this recipe not just saved us, but also earned the highest amount of praise! It's quite funny, as I made it even more on a budget. We skipped the part with cornflour-butter mixture and used only white sugar. With some vanilla ice cream, it tasted HEAVENLY. Greetings from Netherlands :)

That looks similar to the "apple crisp" that my Mom used to make. I make it also. We have always used all white sugar instead of brown sugar, but if you cook it in a hot oven (425 degrees F ) the top will toast and be wonderful. Sliding the dessert briefly under the broiler will ALSO work to brown the top. And YES a crumble (or a crisp) is delicious! I look forward to seeing your "pouring custard" recipe as it will be a new one for me!

I write down every recipe in a small book and make it on the weekend, usually on Sunday's. Unfortunately my oven broke and I have to wait until my husband have an off weekend. Such a shame. This is his working weekend and it's only Wednesday. I have planted four apple trees but they haven't carried fruit yet. We had a very warm winter last year and this upcoming weekend for the first time the temperatures will drop to around 1 degrees Celsius. Hopefully it will carry the upcoming season. @@MargaretErbe-t7s 74 Fahrenheit max today in South Africa in the middel of the winter. Spring will arrive around first of September. I live in the Gauteng province. The Cape is much cooler and they get winter rain, which we don't. I have around 25 fruit trees. Grapes, guava, orange, nartjie, pecan, almond, fig, nectarines, mulberry, litchi, yellow peaches, mango, avocado, apple passionfruit, cape gooseberries, black berries, kiwi, bananas and lemon. All of them either planted from seeds or cuttings. Early this year we had a bumper grape, guava and peach harvest. I picked a big bowl of pecan nuts yesterday from my two pecan nut trees. My avocado tree haven't fruit yet but I keep my fingers cross for this year. I lost most of my bananas to fruit bats but they are adorable and I don't mind that. I made dried fruit rolls from the guava and peaches and they were fantastic. I love fruit, they are most definitely my Achilles heel.
