I had to laugh when you mentioned making lasagna for the first time, and that you followed the recipe step by step. I did the same thing because there weren't any instructions in the recipe that said to follow the directions on the box, so of course I didn't boil the noodles! It was a disaster - I ended up throwing it out and ate at White Castle's for dinner for the next few nights! The person that invented the no boil noodles that they sell now probably did the same thing - only he or she are probably billionaires right now!

Oh, Momma Mel. This looks amazing. All of it. I make a pretty "mean" lasanga. I had to learn on my own how to cook. I was 18 when I got married. Been married 24 years and I am thankful that I just got in the kitchen and tried. I made a lot of mistakes. I cooked green beans (well, tried too) for three years before my sweet husband finally told me he didn't like green beans. Hahaha!! Well, what it was he didn't like how i made them. I didn't actually know what I was doing. Now, my whole family loves them including the husband. It was videos and cookbooks that taught me how to cook. I am thankful for channels like yours.

Already binge watched it. I'm an 80's kid so it resonates with me. I always use cottage cheese in my pasta dishes. I hate ricotta. I've been cooking since I was 12 years old and I will be 55 in July. I had dinner ready when my parents came home from work. My West Virginia Mama taught me how to cook.

My very first recipe meal was potato salad. I too followed the recipe word for word. I borrowed potatoes, eggs, and onions from every neighbor on the mill village. When they say we are a village they were not kidding. I made potato salad for all the neighbors. I had found the recipe at the ladies house I babysit at. She asked “honey which recipe book did you use?” I showed her. She burst out laughing. She said ,” girl that was my husbands army cookbook. You cooked enough for a platoon.” That’s how I learned to cooked for a crowd at a young age. Lol

When I was a kid in the 70s, we lived in a small Texas town in the middle of nowhere - there was no such thing as ricotta cheese. So my mom made lasagna with cottage cheese. That’s how I still prefer it even tho I’ve now lived most of my life in food-snobby Austin, Texas. Why mess with a good thing, right?! 😉😁 Love your channel!!

You are so precious. I talked to a gal at the grocery store who told me she had decided that she couldn't cook. If her husband wanted something fancy, he could make it himself! Our church secretary has 8 people living at her house and they all have covid so I cooked meals to feed 24 in 2 meals. I don't care to cook much for a couple of nights. Your meals look delish!!

I love your stories, I believe that a lot of women or men can relate to it . I was a young 17 year old new mom didn’t really know how to do much, but what I didn’t know my love for whoever I cooked for came through and I believe that God just laid his hands on me and the love came through. Too this day I don’t stress over it as long as I’m cooking from my heart that dish is coming out good and my family loves it each and every time. Did my daughters follow that, no 😞 but they’re getting it slowly but my son loves to cook and if there’s a problem he comes to mom and he’s quite bossy in the kitchen too, like me ❤️ Sorry for the long history, my point is don’t worry about the small things as long as your heart is in it it will be delicious and I see that every time I watch you cook. Great story about the lasagne noodles! Sorry to say... I NEVER cook my lasagne noods... I do make my sauce a bit thinner... And have plenty... But I make it night before and refrigerate before baking. It begins to soften the pasta and the herbs and spices marry... (like it would if it were day old, and sooo much tastier). I have also baked right away with hard noods... Works fine... Always has...

You’re right, those are good lasagna noodles, I made a vegetable lasagna last night and used them. It might take a little longer for noodles to cook through, but it was great. I did see that the new season of Stranger Things was ready to view but may wait for a rainy day to binge watch… I fall asleep to easy when I watch tv so it may take a couple of try’s to get through… making my grocery list now..not sure what I want…still craving ribs..might have to put that fire out this week… lol…maybe a club sandwich night too. I had a recipe, now lost, for crockpot potato soup using frozen potatoes, cans of soup (if I remember it was 2 different kinds). Let it cook until noon, then add a package of diced ham, and some pepper Jack cheese. Truly delicious. Can't wait to try all your recipes...this one was chock full of good stuff❣️

I remember as a newlywed, I had no kitchen experience at all. My mother never allowed anyone in the kitchen while she cooked! My first attempt at cooking was a meal I loved for years. Well when dinner was ready what I had was stew met, potatoes, carrot and onion in hot water! I sat and cried! I was so discouraged and had no idea what I had done wrong nor how to fix it! Having someone to refer to like you would have saved us at dinner time. Well I am 75 and there was no UTube!

A newly wed in 1984, I decided to make lasagna on an afternoon off. Layered it up pretty as could be and popped it in the oven. Turned around and there were my cooked noodles in the colander in the sink. Pulled that pan from the oven and mushed noodles in any ol way messing up my pretty cheese, beef and ricotta.

I'm unaware of the phenomena of "too much cheese." 😂 I've never had that issue in my life! These recipes look delicious. I'm always looking for new crockpot recipes because I use it a lot!

These are great recipes! I didn’t know much about cooking when I got married. We ate a lot of TV dinners 🤣. My mother was a wonderful cook and I would watch her and help some but I had to learn through the years. I always use more cheese than it calls for, especially in lasagna. I make that potato soup often and we love it but I need to make that cornbread.

Looks soooo delicious. Truthfully though, I don't boil my lasagna noodles and I don't use the ready made ones. I never have a problem. But, I think I do use more sauce so maybe my noodles soak up the extra sauce. Love getting inspired by you. And you are always a joy to watch. Thanks for sharing.

I can't use cottage cheese in my lasagna yes for some gets eaten before it makes it to the recipe😂 Also one of my favorite and most easy ways to make a quick lasagna is to make it in an electric skillet. Unlike doing it on the stove you can set most electric skillets to a specific temperature.

My mom did all the cooking also..with 7 kids she didn't really have time to let us help..we watched while staying out of the way..so when I got married we ate a lot of frozen pizza as I learned to cook..my mom talked me through many a meal on the phone..she came by my house one day and made biscuits for me..I was going to let my husband think I made them..he took one bite and said ..nannys been here hasn't she lol
