I'm not even Italian, nor do I express fluency in the language, yet I was able to understand several words here and there. And I can thank that to my knowledge of Romanian, since I am Romanian. That kind of helped with some of the words (even tho I have learned a few Italian words). The phonetics sound familiar, because they're really close with Romanian's, so that was cool. Also, my partial fluency in Spanish and French helped out too. Can't wait till I learn this language in depth.

Translating here for those who are just beginners: Before all else, thanks so very much for many of these beautiful videos. They help me greatly with teaching this most beautiful language to my high school students. It really makes me suffer, though, that in this video, you translate "Bambino Gesu'" as "Father Christmas." He is not!! I beg you not to create confusion and not to lie when speaking of Christmas. Christmas is not just any feast like any other. It is the feast of the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and the only Savior of the world. We need to speak the truth. There are many faithful Christians - in Italy and elsewhere - who are very much offended by this secularization of the sacred and the falsehoods spread about them.

isn't that like baby jesus?
@CarlosJSolorzano4 жыл бұрын
mattinuk I would like to explain that Gesù Bambino is a different character of the Christmas in countries with a strong Latin background. In Spanish we say “ Niño Jesús “ who is the same “Gesù Bambino” this name for Jesús Christ has to do with the fact that Jesus was born and therefore at that time he was a baby. We celebrate “ Jesus the Baby” . Christmas celebrates the birth of “Gesù Bambino” who later becomes Jesus Christ.

Hi Jessica! Tell me what you think is wrong here, nothing is more wrong than with the Easy French videos. We're not here in class, the italian that's "taught" here is the italian that people speak in the streets. Anyway, it's the first video we've made for Easy Italian, if you want to help us improve, we take all tips! = )
@jessicafabretti9 жыл бұрын
Easy French _ Anthony ok sure :) First : benvenuti because you say -- ciao a tutti .. that is "hi everybody :) " so we need a-- " benvenuti " and not -benvenuto- cause it is plural :) . Now when you say : " oggi andiamo a chiedere alla gente cosa pensa di natale" : you can say that but no one use this form in Italy, it is very uncommon. This form of the prhase it is good for spanish : vamos a preguntar (we are going to ask ) but in italian is better to use, -----oggi chiederemo --, as a future :) Di natale, not totally right, it is del Natale :) - Cosa lei pensa di Natale :almost totally right but in the wrong order, as formal you have to say : " Cosa ne(ne in this case is like a link to the subject Xmas) pensa lei del natale :) " P.s dont get me wrong, i'm totally addicted to your channel and I'm learning a LOT watching your videos
@halfthefiber9 жыл бұрын
I don't completely agree that you have to do it the 'right way.' Yes, if there are glaring mistakes then they should be pointed out and corrected, but as Anthony said, we are not in a classroom here. In a normal conversation, we are more willing to forgive a minute error here and there. To dismiss the breadth of good work that the channel has done on account of a few errors (and they are mistakes that tend to be forgivable for the most part) is a little too much.
@jessicafabretti9 жыл бұрын
well this is the right way for any italian :) i'm not a teacher so I won't explain to you all the grammar rules BUT if you want to learn a lenguage you have to do it correctly that's all ;)
@halfthefiber9 жыл бұрын
jessica Fabr Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to undermine or insult the tips you've given because they certainly are very helpful. The best person to correct something is definitely one who speaks it natively, and that's you.

Who cares? Do they speak it well? (They do.) Are they putting in great effort to produce this video? (They are.) These are more than enough reasons to like this video. The fact that they aren't Italian is irrelevant.
@YIIMM9 жыл бұрын
JudgeHill83 Which actually isn't an incorrect interpretation; some of the interviewed say "Babbo Natale" and some say "Gesù bambino". The important thing here is that these are figures that bring presents and the easiest way to convey this sense in subtitles is to put "Father Christmas / Santa Claus". Subtitling is really more about the gist rather than a word-for-word translation.
@easyfrench_anthony68039 жыл бұрын
JudgeHill83 Hi! :) I know what "Gesù bambino" means, it's just that I found it more logical to put "father Christmas" here. Don't believe we do everything without checking the translation at least twice, so, putting "father christmas" is here a choice, backed up by wordreference and of,course other sources (www.wordreference.com/iten/gesu%20bambino).
5 жыл бұрын
Gèsu bambino = Father Christmas? Just... why not just say baby Jesus?
@raffaeleirlanda69665 жыл бұрын
To mistake Gesù Bambino ("Child Jesus") who brings Christmas gifts night of December 25 for italian kids, with a generic "Father Chistmas", is the worst translation you could made, and it is an offence first to the Italian Culture about XMas in its essence, as long as it resisted to a drift into modern merchandise pagan worship of the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, and it is also an offence to the viewers who perceive a false image of the Italian Culture itself.
