What completely transformed my swim is to only breath in when I pull on my opposite arm. It gives me a lot of time to breathe in a relaxed way as I'm high on the water.

Thanks for this. I need to practice these techniques, big time. After about 17 months swimming, even though I've made huge strides in technique thanks to your channel and others, I still cannot manage the breath well enough to do 200m continuously at any effort level. It has become obvious that the breath itself is the issue, and not the stroke. For example, we should be able to recover even _while moving_ as long as the effort is low enough, but for me, if I force myself to maintain the breath rhythm of the swim, then I won't even recover _while holding on to the side of the pool._

When I gasped for air, I certainly was tired, slightly in panic mode, and not breathing down. I am learning to inhale into gut lately, to get away from shallow inhale while swimming. Interestingly, one of the reasons for me to learn swimming is to help my singing. Swimming really has improved my air management while holding a long note. Another interesting fact is that when a singer gets better vocal control, a major factor being better air management and how gut and diaphragm control the airflow.

How do you have long slow and deep breaths when you only have a very short window of time to breath in when swimming freestyle?

Excellent explanation of best timing and ways to control CO2 intolerance with examples and proper method; really liked the nose breathing at recovery and the dry land exercises and tests Thanks 😊

Listened to this intensive, informative pod. When swimming Is the correct advice to breathe most of the air out through your nose in the water and a small balance of air through your mouth before coming up for your next breath or can you breathe all of the air out through your nose in the water before coming up for the next breath through your mouth. 😊

I was taught to breathe all your air out through your nose in the water before coming up for your next breath through your mouth. 😊

The main cause is its a reaction to stress,,,and you need to train to be more relaxed while stressed:)

Natural reaction to drowning is really hard to tame or overcome. When I first started learning swimming my fear was heightened every time I was in deep end; Chest tightened, heart rate up, air seemed to be gone, and muscle became heavy. This fear is still in the back of my mind now while I swim lap. A couple of time I swallowed water by accident, my body forgot how to swim immediately and fear came to consciousness to take over.

Very interesting. It’s really possible to increase efficiency and speed with developing of efficiency of breathing because this is the main source of energy. And each person really can develop this ability. Thank you 🙏. Now I really want to involve those exercises in my daily routine.

In the hypocapnic drill, is it better to hold air for the first half of the time, and blow out just at the end? I used to blow out continually. Is it a wrong way?

Hello, I watched your old video "Stroke Rates of elite swimmers", tell me how you calculated the Stroke Rates? can you tell me the formula for counting? Or is there a program for this?

Due to chlorine sensitivity, I have to swim with nose clips. Understanding that my inability to exhale through my nose is causing carbon dioxide build up, I struggle with breathing in distances longer than 100 yards. This video is helpful, but can you give me any tips, drills, or advice to assist my breathing with my nose clips? Thanks!

is exhaling through mouth much worse than exhaling through nose?
@the1bradclark7 ай бұрын
@@lendial Yes, exhaling through the nose eliminates carbon dioxide. Without eliminating carbon dioxide, it builds up, causing you to panic-breathe. That's why nose clips can be so frustrating. Still hoping for any advice, drills, tips, etc., to assist with nose-clip breathing from Brandon or his team.
