Try something with heavy stagger. Learn her moveset well and then use every possible opening to get that stagger in and get the critical in. Use the opening while she's recovering to get some extra damage in. You really got to punish her hard and keep up the pressure. If you let her breath you're fucked.

I think of it this way : Malenia still has rhe strongest and most terriffying attack of the two, waterfall dance, but as a whole, Rellana's combos and regular attacks are not only even worse, but she adds magic to it. Not to mention she is built to punish bad habits (always rolling backwards or on the side for example). The double moon move is easily dealt with (but don't get hit lmao, death assured). They really went : how about we mix pontiff Sulyvann, Malenia, Renalla, Carian knights, moonveil, sword of night and flame, Loretta... and make her combos potentially never ending.

@@popkhorne5372 always rolling backwards IS the strategy for this fight my dude, she literally has no endless combos if you roll backwards and then roll forward for one hit when she stops comboing because you're too far away now. Also this is the second person i've seen that says she has endless combos, like, yeah she has long combos but out of all the bosses in this game that has endless combos, this is the only fight where you can use that for your advantage instead of just watching the boss dance and hope you don't get randomly clipped by an instant distance closing attack during it. But yeah this fight is basically One Pump Chump: Elden Ring Edition where you can't squeeze in more than one attack in any opening like ever(except for the phase transition but be careful with the sword prep hitbox.) Also i know i sound like i'm trying to make this fight sound easy but i know its not easy at all, some of her attacks are almost instant and recognizing her combos and combo endings takes time. And i wouldn't judge anyone for calling this fight bs as well because she kills you in two hits, and she sometimes summons those overheard homing blades at the worst possible scenarios(she can literally summon them before the moon attack, which is a guaranteed death because i dont think you can i-frame moons with dodge). Its just that this fight is the least offender in almost the entire game where overly long combos are considered, for me at least.

@@nicecoat5004 what you said about dodging backwards does not confict with what i said. she has some attcks that punish backwards or side dodges much more than forward. in fact she also has some attacks that are less forgiving for forward dodges. i'm sorry but saying she is the least offender in terms of combos is just not true. yes in phase 1 they are not that long and exploitable, but in phase two she has several combos that are the longest in the game. even malenia never combos this long. also they deal so much more damage than Malenia's. the glintblades's timings can feel unfair true, but most of the time they are only an annoyance. the moon attack is perfectly fair, no pb with it, but man even recognising her paterns is hard. after fighting Malenia i could basically no hit her exept for waterfall dance, but i don't see that happening with rellanna... that said my stats may also be a problem. only 55 vigor, no rune may be a bit rough...

I do think she's harder and more challenging than Malenia. Malenia is not that hard, she simply has waterfoul, a move where, whenever you hit her, she can randomly decide you'll die by doing it, since close warerfoul is 99% death chances

Her 'endless combos' turned out to be full of attack and healing windows and her 'input reading' is the same god damn heal punish mechanic Fromsoft has been using for years now. It's just Elden Ring day 1 all over again lmao.

In case anyone is struggling, here is something that at least helps get through phase 1 easy: any time she strikes with both swords at once, there is an opening directly afterward EXCEPT the heavy attack that is noticeably slower. Then she will slash with both swords twice, opening. You can't go wrong if you follow this, outside the random glitchy moment that allows her to break out of her own recovery frames, but that only happened to me once. An upgraded greatshield makes her 1st phase a complete joke, since her stamina damage is pretty bad and you can just wait for those openings and guard counter. 2 or 3 guard counters and she stance breaks (maybe need a few other hits in there with some weapons). She is also fairly susceptible to rot. You can also position dance around the edge of her range and dodge once instead of guarding, but that is obviously more difficult. In phase two, her combos are mostly the same, except she can cancel her recovery frames with that loopy double vertical slash, you'll know what I'm talking about. I'm not sure what the trigger for that is, but it does become relatively easy to see coming after a while. Obviously the greatshield is not as useful since you will still take chip damage, but it's still better than taking a hit. A few of her attacks can 1-shot even at 60 VIG, including the finisher to her longest combo. Don't get hit by that! To dodge her blade barrage attack that she usually opens with in phase two, outrun the first two, jump the third, the fourth should miss automatically, and outrun the fifth. If she uses it at close range, GL, you're probably dead.

@@ryan25067Make sure to get as many Scadutree Blessings as you can. I had a level 8 blessing at the time, and the boss still one or two shot me with nearly 2,400 health. This is definitely way harder than anything in the base game, and I would say I never had this much trouble on my first playthrough. Even bosses like Malenia can still be pretty easy with the right gear, but this boss doesn't give a fuck what you're using, the only correct thing to have is skill. I had to almost no-hit her just to beat the fight, and it took me a couple of hours to beat her. Granted, I was figuring out what weapons worked the best, which strategies were the most effective, and I can say that a +25 Milady (the light greatsword you can get in a chest in that castle) with lightning infusion, feel free to use whatever ash of war you want, was the best way to beat her for me. It's got quick running attacks, generally good moveset and combo's, and since like half of the arena is a pool of water, and she wears all metal armor, lightning is the way to go. I personally used the wing stance aow for the fast lunging heavy attack, which I would recommend using in her since she barely gives you time to actually hit her aside from the short recovery after a long attack string.

I managed to down her on my 2nd try solo with NO consumable buffs or magic buffs or status effects, i'm quite amazed at myself believe me or now, i found a weakness in her moveset by accident. Lvl 165 character strength based NG+0, Scadu Blessing +4. I am using greatsword of solitude, the one from the spirit ash boss at the start of the DLC, and i am charged heavy enthusiast, it appears that when i charge heavy with this weapon, most of her attacks (especially piercing and horizontal swipes) just go above my character and never hit me since he crouches when charging =)) you guys should try this, it was awesome!

The moment when even Melania is more balanced than whatever this is. 4/10 boss. Visually cool. Mechanic wise absolute abysmal. She has litterly EVERYTHING AoE, Range, Melee, a one shot Spell, can close up to you in mere seconds so no time to heal, attacks continuously without any major openings. This boss without any summoning feels absoulte ass. Respect to those who managed without it.

I recommend using light roll on her, being able to just roll out of alot of her combos makes it much easier. -use that talisman that increases equip load + level up endurance and you will still be able to keep a piece of armor on

Found it hard using pure strength! Had to get quite a few hits in before she would get stance broken, and the slower hitting speed is offcourse a problem! That only means i have to bring out the big guns - starfists🤜🏻🤜🏻

Tip that helped me a lot whilst using Moghs great spear dodge into her sword arm and not away, really helped me avoid a lot of her twirl attacks that otherwise clip me. Also to avoid the twin moon move just jump as the ball/boss falls. You need to do it as soon as you see the object fall to give you enough time to be able to jump the next attack. Also another thing, when using her ash of war to send the slices of magic at you run away from her, this will give you enough time to dodge each slash, dodging around her is tough because the blade itself as well as the magic attack can hit you making dodging closer to her almost impossible

Quick tip: if you using a dex build, try blood affinity Milady with wing stance. Use mostly heavy attacks and the R2 from the wing stance (it's quick and has pretty good poise damage on her) For talismans: shard of alexander, dragoncrest greatshield, millicent's prostesis, rotten winged sword insignia You will most likely have 2 bleeds and a stagger before phase 2 (sorry if I typed something wrong, I'm not English)

First DLC boss that forced me to respec. I found that going all out tank with with the fingerprint shield and bonking her with guard counters was the most viable option. Just stack damage negation buffs as she heads into phase two and you should be good. Reccomend opaline + crimsonwhorl tears.

Second phase is so brutal. I legit get her to 10% almost every time, but i ave NO window to attack. I tried to use summons, but her attacks are soo hard to read, that I don't know half the times who she has aggro on. Harder fight than Malenia for me. I didn't use summons for her, and she didn't take me this long to finish. The bitch doesn't stop attacking.

At this point I've beaten the dlc and for the most part I've enjoyed it, I just ain't some miyuzaki fan boy that froths at the mouth over everything he does glossing over the issues. I never claimed the game was "to hard" as many people have, besides the final boss no boss took me more then 15 attempts which from what I've been seeing is pretty good actually but there WERE clear problems with both the open world as well as core issues with a lot of the bosses in the dlc, the direction the boss movesets are taking are just not as fun as bosses in past from titles the 2nd phase of the final boss is the perfect example of this, that being said messmer is peak 🤌 And midra was pretty well designed to imo tho maybe a tad too easy All in all the dlc is GOOD but I just don't think it's some 10/10 masterpiece like people keep saying, although it was the same with the base game and people soon changed their tune after the honeymoon period. 8/10 dlc for me

Delayable attacks, 5+ hit strings that can easily kill on NG+ or just drains your stamina bar from blocking/rolling, no stagger unless stunned, etc. Even Malenia feels more fair because you can at least stagger her when she finishes her strings
