Carter is awesome. I've never been a big fan of Metallica. That being said, now I totally understand the role of Lars. Without the parts played as written, the song lost it's vibe. Looks like lots of folks liked it. I wish I could say I did, but it didn't feel right to me.

It’s not right. Carter, a freak of nature, is not a metal drummer. Even in this he doesn’t rock and settle into a straight groove. He can’t resist the many accessory shots, which work fantastically well with DMB, they don’t fit in metal. IMHO.

Awesome! Must say I do prefer a straight 4/4 rock groove over his unique and fantastic style. Personally, I like Lars for Metallica. IMO it goes with their rebellious, irreverent style that made them unique. If cliff and James were ok with Lars, we should be, too. Is Carter a better drummer? Well, of course, he is, but he also just so happened to find a guy who wrote weird songs with odd time sigs in which Carter could be Carter! He’s not a metal drummer. His style doesn’t fit metal. But with DMB it’s PERFECT!!! He’s an icon, a legend. But guess what, so is Lars, metronome be dammed. Haha!
