This is an epic journey to Arizona’s most remote trout stream, in the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I give you a brief trail description, safety precautions to consider, and how to catch trout.

Looks like a great trip! I do love AZ. 40 years ago this trip would have been high on my list. Beyond my ability now, but it was great to enjoy it through your eyes. Thanks!

Well informed and produced video. Did that trip in the mid 80's. Surprise valley was 105 F and caused an issue for one person . Because the weather was so HOT I hung out at the evaporated air of Thunder River but did make it to Tapeats Creek. Threw one cast caught a rainbow and quickly headed back to Thunder and coolness. Some of our hikers saw rattlesnakes.

@@AZFlyShop hey, I’m looking to get my first fly rod. In all my research, most everyone recommends a 9ft 5wt for your first rod. However, I’ll mainly be fishing the smaller streams and creeks here in AZ. Do you think I’d be happier with a shorter 4 or 3wt? Bigger learning curve for casting I’d assume. Thanks for any advice!

Going to be at Phantom Ranch in a couple days, and plan to fish Bright Angel with my tenkara rod. You mentioend wooly buggers and hopper droppers. I'm guessing Bright Angel would be the same? For the droppers, I'm thinking caddis and mayfly emergers? Also guessing small - 18 and smaller? Not sure if you'll see this before I leave...great video :)

I would take grass hopper patterns, for bright angel

Awesome, thanks for the advice just seeing what permits you needed to go in the park for this hike and camping and have long did it take to get the permits
@AZFlyShop Жыл бұрын
You need a back country camping permit, specifically for the camp sites you are going to. Takes a week or two for the permits to arrive.
