I really like what you did Suzie with the mistletoe on the lighs, just go out to the garden and pick your own decorations . My partner of 25 years passed away in April he was a roofer and he loved a challenge I know your roof would be one. Looking forward to the end result on the lights.

Good evening Rols & Suzie, yup, the roof looks very "tender" and needs a lot of love! A pity there is very little space for the water to run, no wonder there is an overflow into the barn. I am sure you will sort it properly, but you need some time. What a treat to have your own mistletoe in your garden. Just a few sprigs makes the world of difference. It looks lovely on the yoke all blending together perfectly. Love the lamps and they would be just lovely with their shades. Some planning to do this coming week, wishing you all the best and enjoy. Do take care, kind regards.

There is a way of walking on those tiles, but I can't remember the chateau video that I saw where the professional tiler showed how to do that....sorry. I am sure you could find out...I hope! What a job and am so glad that you are able to do what you did and the idea of redirecting the water, sounds very logical. Those lights are beautiful and can't wait to see them up and in place. Hello Jane, thanks for watching. The problem is more to do with the safety of the wooden structure, once I have secured that I should be able work on the roof safely. Hi Suzie and Rols, I completely agree with you that the white globes take away from the rustic look you are going for, the bulbs you have in the yolk light would look nice in them as well. Rols, I was wondering if you could run the new piece of drainage pipe across the roof tiles, and then tie it into the larger pipe, kind of like a capital L, just a thought, Suzie the mistletoe look perfect, "Oh Rols" Suzie has something in the kitchen for you. Love from N.Y.

I can't wait to see your lanterns all cleaned up. They are really going to be smart looking! I'm with you on the polishing off the tarnish. I think The Antiques Roadshow has done a disservice talking about "patina" the way they do. No, don't polish an antique bronze statue. But by all means polish antique brass, copper, sterling. What some of the auctioneers call "patina" is really just DIRT! "Patination" is actually the process of applying paint or other materials an artist uses to enhance the details of their work. Dirt is well, dirt. Not "patina". Yes, the dirt can show the age of an item. But I don't know many people that want dirty items in their homes. Ew. I've tried the ketchup thing. Nope. It doesn't work. At least not on heavily tarnished items. I've found that using "Barkeeper's Friend" -- a very mildly abrasive powder works best at removing decades of tarnish. I then follow up with Brasso on a soft cloth to give it a nice shine. Merry Christmas, y'all! Cheers from North Carolina

The roof guttering: In the States we have a flexible pipe in black that is easily cut to length. It has many uses but it's not pretty. It's primarily used under ground. But if you have access to such a product, perhaps it would be a simple solution to extending the drain pipe to the end of the roof. Perhaps the excessive rain runoff could then be redirected over the edge of the roof and into a barrel or water catchment vessel or onto the ground. It could be nice to hang a decorative rain chain there as well. Anyway I just thought it might be a simple temporary solution though perhaps too unsightly for a glorious historical chateau such as yours. Best wishes. Merry Christmas all!

I'm not putting any up decorating and upside down I've loads but it's too much to do , I decorate inside out like Santa's Grotto my bones are deased things take longer decorating a room everything was done in a day then furniture back it takes longer the older you get . @@chateaucitadelleducavalier I've been watching a while love you're farm and watching you both couldn't believe how clean the ceiling became when you was washing it down , who'd have thought that black would have come off year's of soot guess the family that lived there use to breathe that in not thinking about it . Merry Christmas to you both had a friend who bought a Chateau many year's ago can understand why she did now as far as I know she's still out there just not heard from her , it's a lovely life from what I've seen I live in a rural village very small but been here since 450 we have a Abbey built in the 1300 one shop but we did have more but modern times got the shops closed and our post office we had bakers , butchers , clothes shop and a bank all gone and the village use to only have about 500 families with the farms and saddlers all knew each other . Some bigger house I think too big 5 bedrooms but have to look like the cottage look so small windows lovely been out in nature I love the peace , we have people from London in the big houses that catch the train looks peaceful where you are and the French seem to be helpful people and kind love to you both have a beautiful Christmas ❤️🤶🎅❤️

Great vlog Thanks for sharing. Well there is a coincidence, or two, we have a rise & fall oil lamp at the top of our stairs. The weight on ours actually weighs 7.5Kg. The oil reservoir is ceramic but we are unable to decifer the makers mark. It has 9 candle holders in which we put some very realistic looking remote control led flickering candles. The oil lamp is in perfect working order but we do not use it as we dont want black marks on the ceiling above it. BTW we collect oil lamps & have about 120 on display in the house along with our other collections. We also have a nodding deer/reindeer which lights up and is probably exactly the same as yours which will go out into the garden this week. ATB. regards from the UK

Hello Ray, thank you for watching and for your suggestion. Unfortunately the end of the roof is also the boundary of our property therefore we would be draining the water onto our neighbours land. Once I have made the structure safe then I should be able to use the roof to sit/lean on and extend the existing downpipe along the wall into the downpipe that flows into the ground.
