My family on my mom’s side has a BBQ sauce recipe. Back in the 1940’s my grandmother owned a BBQ restaurant but with a huge family they were still very poor. (18 children!) one night, while saying her prayers, my grandmother prayed for a way to earn more money. Next morning the recipe was in her head! I have never heard anyone say they didn’t like that sauce. No matter how hard they try no one can guess one of the most important ingredients. It’s hilarious. Growing up we were never allowed to tell anyone the ingredients. Recently a cousin posted it on fb so that ended that. lol My mom and all of her siblings are gone now but I feel like they are all with me when I use that sauce for cook outs. Thanks for sharing your family story and recipe, Sophie.

i grew up in the Sonoran desert on the border of Mexico and the U.S. state of Arizona (along the Camino del Diablo) ... in the month of May, the Mesquite trees would produce their beans.... i would gather several pounds of the bean pods from the trees and grind the entire bean pods into a flour... my mother would then sift the flour as you would regular wheat flour. my mother would then use the Mesquite bean flour in the same style/method as wheat flour to make sweet breads but my favorite recipe was my mother's sweet tamales using the Mesquite bean flour and Sweet Corn(Maize) flour to make the "Masa" and mashed Pumpkin squash for the tamale filling spiced with nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, dates, and pecans...

I love dishes passed down over the years, like this. I loved my old gran's recipes, she was well into her 90s and still cooking. One day should took a dish from the fridge, heated and served. Then I found a cork floating in the food!! her eyesight was not that good, so did not notice!! All good, we still laugh about it.

Down up to 4 or 3 generations recipes usually perfect one usually common from grandmothers. They have better traditional tips&trick how to made it tasty than technology generations now.
