Today, we are going to review the Eufy Cam E Wireless Battery powered WiFi Security Camera from Anker. These camera's features are almost the same as the Arlo Pro 2's with few exceptions and differences. I will be doing a separate comparison video pretty soon.
So, we will do the unboxing, check out the features, set up the camera, check the settings, install and do some testing like video and audio quality, motion detection distance and speed of notification. At the end we will see if this camera system will fit your needs.

I was a Kickstarter supporter of the first Eufycam. The main differences are they have more features and have a higher weatherproofing rating that the E version. Been using for months and no real issues. Battery is still going strong even though I keep in high surveillance mode. FW updates about once a month. Just bought another set for my Mom. Thanks for a great review a usual. I can highly recommend Eufycam for those who don't want to pay fees like other camera systems require for cloud storage.

Thanks for your review. Just purchased 2 eufy cameras with base. Had trouble with the base station installed in my basement. I could not get a good connection with the camera mounted to the outside wall. Called support, they told me you can connect the base station by wifi instead of rj45 cable. Now the base station is on the main floor and the camera outside connects well with a great signal. Going to add a few more camera's very soon. Highly reccomend

Your videos have far exceeded the help I receive from Eufy Customer Service, who is not, by the way, open on weekends or after 5 p.m.......Exactly the times when a person who works days would be installing their devices! Although the customer service rep promises they are trying to increase the time open. The Eufy manuals are fairly worthless as is their online installation information which aims to direct you back to sales. I don't know if you get paid for this but boy you should because without I would have a Eufy video doorbell and Ecam system sitting in the boxes.

I am currently using a blink system of 8 cameras, both internal an external. But I am surprised and disappointed that Blink are not showing any signs of updating their cameras to two way audio, despite requests from myself and others. I also use a ring doorbell but their monthly charges are unacceptable to me. This looks like a reasonably priced, reliable option and I look forward to seeing further reviews. I enjoy seeing your reviews and respect your opinions.

LifeHackster,. Two thumbs 👍👍 up and toe big toes up! (If I the emoticons were available.) Right away this Eufy product seems to outperform the overhyped and underperforming Arlo. The video clarity is great and the sound is clear. As far buying it , I would have to think about it very very very carefully, but I might give it a try if it's worth it replacing the BlinkXT cameras I use for my backyard. (Edit: at $430 (tax included and free are shipping) for a 2 kit camera? No way, Jose! Too expensive for battery device which end up being not so reliable if a lot of action movement or live feed streaming is used. Also, Alexa Echo does take a while to load up. Even though I bought the Lenovo Display, I am still considering on buying the Echo show 2nd generation as it seems besides supporting the Ring devices it also support the Nest outdoor cameras as well.

Have to agree, over 400 dollars for 2 cameras, you have to go with a wired system. I have the arlo pro w/4 cameras, they dont pick up everything.Continous recording guarantees you will capture everything. I would like be able to monitor 4 cameras live at all time which wifi cameras don't do.

Yes, they are pricey too...the video quality though is better than the Arlo...it seems pretty reliable..no false alerts yet and it triggers everytime I set foot in my backyard.

You should also check the optimal sync distance and try difficult situations where the base station placement makes sync more challenging. That would definitely be a challenge for my situation.

It seems pretty reliable. My experience with cameras that have a base station (generates their own Wifi network for the cameras), can connect longer distances as compared to the ones without.

I really appreciate your insight and videos. Very helpful and informative. I have an Arlo setup. One of the biggest downfalls I feel it has is the range of their base station. Can you test actual distances and compare the Eufy base to the Arlo base? Not what they state in their specs but actual signal strength and reach. Thanks.

I tested it before with a 70 feet distance from the base station with 1 wall in between and the camera is inside the car..no issues connecting.

An excellent review. In heat intensive climates like Phoenix, AZ, top-of-the-line car batteries last only about 24 months. So, it is likely weather-sealed camera would have a similar shortened battery life. Let's assume the Eufy's batteries die in 24 months, due to heat. Since the battery is not user replaceable, the ENTIRE CAMERA would need to be replaced. At $180 per camera. That means, the cost of ownership for two cameras, for 24 months, would be $15.00 per month. Arlo Pro/Pro 2 user replaceable batteries cost $50 each. Assuming Arlo the batteries would also last 2 years in Phoenix, the cost of two batteries over 24 months would average about $4 per month. Compare that to Eufy's $15 per month, and the Eufy may not be a "Arlo Killer." The Eufy COULD have been a nice competitor to the overpriced Arlo. However, the battery is NOT replaceable by the end user is a design flaw and possibly a deal killer.

Just got these cameras (were in sale on amazon) took literally minutes to install. Install was actually faster than firmware update. I could not be more olease with the system. Crystal clear night and day. Been outside in 20°- 30°F been in Then up 50s for a few weeks now but have been out for 2 months and still full battery so let's see if they actually last 180 days or not.

Excellent review of the eufyCam E and all its features. But how do you find its lag from when motion is detected to when the camera starts recording? I have an Arlo system, and you can run up to the front door and snatch a package and leave before the cameras start recording. At best, you will end up with a recording of the back of a person's head. Does the eufyCam perform any better? How soon do they begin recording after sensing motion? Maybe you can do another video of you walking into the camera's field of view and walking away, and show us exactly what the camera recorded. Thanks!

Arlo should be ASHAMED. First of all excellent review, thank you!!! I've had the Eufy E 2 camera set system and I couldn't be more happier. I owned the Arlo Pro 2 and the newest Arlo Ultra. In my opinion overall the Eufy system is better and almost half the price than the Arlo Ultra system. I love the anti theft alarm the Eufy has and I get notifications in 2-4 seconds on my end (I have speeds up to 400 on Optimum). And the extra optional mounts is a plus. And the battery life is definitely true to its testing. I get about 12 notifications from my backyard (mostly cats passing by) and rarely false alarms. And I live view my camera at least 6 times a day and battery bar has depleted by 1 (4 bars left)... PS: You Can Add Up To 16 Cameras local storage and NO monthly fees (Thank Goodness)🖖

I walked to the other side of the wall and the camera connection was gone or poor. How are you testing with the base station inside and came outside. Hi, I’ve just recently installed these cameras and they seem to work great with very clear images/videos. My only concerns are that I get too many notifications. I have already reduced the motion detection control to 30. I believe it to be the surrounding trees and shrubs in the garden triggering the notifications. Can you suggest any other adjustments that may reduce the number of false notifications. Great review thanks

This is definitely a competitor of Arlo but not a killer. Arlo's cameras got even better with the smart alerts and the new Arlo Ultra. I still think it's a bit overpriced but I think it's still the best battery operated camera in the game even though it's not perfect. The fact that I can see a preview of the alert on my phone without unlocking my phone on the Arlo is a very strong feature to me.

Arlos are not better with their smart alerts which takes 12-15 seconds to alert you instead of 2-5 seconds without it..and just to tell you that the motion is from car, animal or person...I like their thumbnail preview though..but this feature can be done without any notification delays...

I just got the battery powered camera doorbell because of your other review. I got the smart doorbell with homebase package. Wireless Camera doorbell was super easy to install, excellent video quality, and super fast notifications. Really happy with it so far. Glad I bought it over the Ring doorbell and the other popular ones. I plan on adding on more cameras in the near future and door and window sensors. I'm looking for committing with this system long-term. That being so, I had a Question. Seems like you've owned this system for close to a year now. How has the whole system held up? The easiest one to install are battery powered WiFi cameras like the Ring stickup cam, Arlo Pro 2, Reolink Eco/Argus or even Blink XT. All of them have night vision so they should work even if it is pitch black. Take note on the installation though that the closer you can get the cameras to the router the better.

Let me add this bit of crucial detail that the reviewer left out. The Eufy batteries will typically last 3-4 years. You CANNOT replace the batteries. This makes the $180 cameras disposable whereas the Arlo, Alro Pro, Arlo Pro 2, etc. batteries ARE user replaceable. In the long run, you will spend a great deal more with the Eufy versus the Arlo. And I will add, I bought the Eufy and returned it for lack of user replaceable batteries and I now have the Alro Pro 2 four camera system and the video and audio is superb AND yes you do have the option for local storage - no monthly fees. You also have the option for cloud storage, again, with no monthly fees. Eufy has cloud storage too, but no free storage at all. Beware of reviewers being paid by the manufacture or receiving the product for free for a good review. For clarity: Eufy 2 camera system is $255 on Amazon. Each additional camera is $180. So 4 camera system would be $615. No replacable batteries. Batteries die after 3-4 years, buy new cameras. Local storage with volatile SD card up to 128 Gb/s. Best to use SD cards for use in dash cams. Arlo Pro 2 two camera system is $292 on Amazon or $550 for the 4 camera system. Each additional camera is $130 (Pro 2) or $100 (Pro). Alro Pro 2 base station is backwards compatable with the Alro Pro cameras. Replacable batteries. Batteries die after 3-4 years, replace batteries. Local storage with USB flash drive OR USB external hard drive up to 2 TB/s. Best to use an SSD drive.

Just to clarify, I didn’t forget to mention the battery issue...I mentioned it around 4-5 mins of the video...also, I know the “internet” is saying that the lithium ion batteries last for 2-3 years but I can tell you that I have an oscillating tool (lithium ion) and I use and charge it only 1-2 times a year and it is still going strong and it has been 11 years..as to eufy, since I did this review, the battery is still 3/4 full.. well time will tell though how long the battery will last but it is nice not to recharge the batteries every 2 months like my Arlo pro 2s...

@@LifeHackster I dont disagree with you, dont get me wrong. In regards to your oscillating tool, I am sure you don't use it on a daily/constant basis, unlike the camera system? The 365 day charge is on optimal terms - 10 15-sec clips per day which is not a lot. However, this is where scheduling can come into play. I have my Arlo Pro 2 system on a schedule and after just over 2 months, my batteries are at 81% remaining. After 6 months I should be in the 30-40% range, which is great IMO. Still, I would rather replace a $30 battery than a $180 camera when the battery decides to finally die altogether.

Hi LifeHackster, thanks for your review. My biggest issue with all these wireless cameras is the effective range from the camera to the base station and the router. I can extend my router range quite easily, but if the camera has to link to the base station that really does limit where I can place the cameras. It's so difficult to understand the effective range from camera to base station - can you help?

Hi there, I really appreciate your reviews. I count on them! Any chance of reviewing the Somfy outdoor Cam? It seems they now do sales in the US. There aren't any serious reviews out there, yet the cam seems to be packed with features. BTW, the Eufy Cam E base station needs to be close to the router.... that may not be convenient a lot of the time.

Hi please can you tell Me After charging This camera, does it still have to be connected to the mains for the power? Or is it just a matter of mounting it outside with no cables coming out of it?

I'm having a problem recently where my 2-way audio isn't working. I'm on iOS 13.3, microphone is on in settings, and turned 'on' within the settings cog/wheel on the camera. I push and hold the 'hold to speak' and I get the graphic that its transmitting, but nothing is heard by the person standing outside by the camera. Do you know why?

BTW, as of today, 6/21/2020, following your link the price is $298.99 plus a coupon for $40.00 more off for the two camera setup! Really like your videos that i found today following a link i found for the Blink xt2. I now prefer this Eufy model for the day and night video, the better audio as well as working with Google as I have their Google Hub vid/speaker setup already. I have now subscribed to your channel!!! I do have a question as to how far away the homebase and the camera can be from one another. I live in a bottom floor apt and my car, which is in a carport, is approximately 90 feet away from my living room window. My cars Kenwood Stereo picks up my ASUS AC-RT86U router with a 75% connection. I'm hoping to be able to "hide" a camera to watch my car.. (Tape over the ledights. There is good ambiant light level.) There is a high level of thefts in the four apartments that are next to each other here. Thanks in advance

Don't return it yet.. it does have better video quality but the Arlo Pro 2's can be accessed via web, and can be plugged in to access other features like motion zones and 3 sec look back. I'll be comparing this camera with the Arlo Pro 2 soon.

I was about to buy nest outdoor camera, then I saw your review about Arlo pro 2 which I liked. But now you made me confused. which one should I buy. Nest, Arlo pro 2, Arlo ultra, or Eufy. Camera price isn’t an issue however subscription is a big deal as well as picture quality, wiring, WiFi range, and app usage. Plz let me now your recommendation.

Hello does the base station have to remain plugged via ethernet cable to your router? Or is that just for set up?

No, you need to setup your WiFi info in the connection settings..or it can just be connected to your router..

Is acces secured using ssl or ssh certificates? Is remote internet view using encrypted use/password sent over public IP? Is the local IP stored on some remote website which is used to enable remove viewing ? These are the real questions

They just stated that data is encrypted and you need to log in when viewing the footage.
