about the lockdown nostalgia, I think (or at least I hope) what those people are reminiscing about is the sudden change of pace people got the chance to have? because I’ve seen so many people reconnect with their family by not going out, having more leisure time in their otherwise packed schedules and just taking a moment to sit back. that was therapeutic to an extent (not talking about the pandemic, just what the lockdowns provided). I hope we can do more of that without a panorama on our heads

Regardless of how anyone feels about what he did, I think it's reasonable for him to laugh as an initial reaction. Sometimes it takes time to process what's actually been said. I also think that it's possible that he was just going to try and laugh it off and ignore the joke, but then when he saw Jada's reaction, he decided he needed to do something. Like I said, I'm not saying he was warranted in striking him, but I think it's understandable why he might have initially laughed.

Nah, I agree to disagree but I don't think it's that kind of laugh. It will look like an awkward laugh to you if you are not a shallow person to notice. Not like this. He is sincere laughing with his eyes laughing as well and all. For example there is a video of Chris preparing for going on stage after the incident he is laughing but his eyes are not. You can see his confusion and hurt. I think Will laughed and didn't think it was any matter and when he turned to his wife he realized at that moment it was offensive for her and wanted to do something fast with the guilt of laughing at the joke. It is a little shocking to me that Jada is not anybodys subject to this. Jada laughed when Chris got slapped and she didn't even try to stop Will to go to stage or when he was yelling nonsense. I know Will is an adult but it's your choice to stop your loved ones and friends to do some stupid things from out of pure rage or sorrow. It's just my opinion but Jada is not looking like a good person to me.

@@gaaramania Will Smith is literally an award winning actor. I think he can convincingly pull off a realistic looking, but fake smile for the cameras. Also, I've seen that video of Jada laughing. She didn't laugh after the initial slap, she laughed after Rock said "Will Smith just slapped the shit out of me." You know who else laughed after he said that? At least half of the room. The woman next to her clearly laughs at the same time as Jada. Then when Will starts yelling from his seat, Jada looked just as confused as everyone else. She didn't laugh because Will slapped him, she (and a good portion of the attendees) laughed at an offhand comment that Chris Rock made.

The only reason why I would feel nostalgic about early quarantine was that my friends and I would fairly regularly play Jackbox over Google Hangouts and we would spend hours laughing so hard. Now that everyone is back to work, everyone is busy and it’s hard to coordinate getting people together to have more of those fun times.

i sometimes feel nostalgic for early 2020. it was scary and weird, but everybody being connected and everything being up in the air was kind of exciting at the time? a big group of my friends would get together every couple days and have a Zoom party. we’d play Jackbox games or Smash or Animal Crossing and we’d drink and talk all night. as the days turned to weeks and months, everybody started to get drained and the reality of what was happening really set in. we stopped having those Zoom parties when we stopped having new things to talk about. it ended up just turning into us getting too drunk and sad. early 2020 had a weird sort of excitement and adrenaline that faded into depression.

Yeah that was my personal theory as well, that what people are nostalgic about regarding early quarantine is the feeling of community that we all had worldwide, like we all supported each other and felt truly united against something that still felt so new and scary, I've never felt as close to other people in the world like in those early months. Maybe there are also other factors that people are nostalgic of, for example a lot of people got to stay home and have free time for the first time in a long while, but overall i think the biggest thing of that time was the sense of unity and companionship that we had globally

during lockdown nearly everyone in my family lost their jobs because they all work in bars/concert venues and i was stuck inside with my abusive mom who was taking out her financial struggles on her kids- it was the lowest point in my life and most people i know- plus when i finally got to escape and live on a college campus i was forced back home again like it really felt like everything came crashing down on me- couldn’t see my friends at school, so much negativity and abuse from a lot of people around me who were losing their careers- it was seriously so so so bad.

For those who don't know, alopecia is an autoimmune disease and a disability, its not as simple as just losing your hair. Even if it was, a lot of Black women have pointed out that Chris made a documentary about the value of Black hair so he should've known better than making a joke about a Black woman losing her hair. Whether its staged or not, the joke was punching down and I doubt Jada would've asked to be dragged into this.

Aside from the super “out-of-touch” of it all, I sort of understand these TikToks. The longing for those early times of quarantine. Those weeks and months sort of blended together, and reminded me of times from when I was a kid during those slow, hazy, summer breaks from school. Typically as a kid, you can’t just up and leave your home - so you find ways to entertain yourself and pass the time. I’m in Orlando, so March feels like our summertime anyways, lol. I wish I could’ve thrived more during that time at home. With everything happening in the world, my anxiety kept me from taking advantage of the time we had. Pushing my art, creating, getting better at rollerskating. But now, I accept the fact that everyone handled this all differently.. and that’s okay. March 2020 feels just like yesterday, yet at the same time.. lifetimes ago.

I’ve seen people lying repeatedly about it being a punch, and I think it’s because they know a slap is much less serious. It is assault and bad, obviously, but it’s not equivalent to a punch. Maybe if it was I’d understand these “it could’ve killed him” and potentially even the “he should be locked up” takes, but I think those are such overreactions to a slap. I think it’s the kind of situation where the two men involved can sort it out between themselves, and imo how foolish it made Will look is probably enough of a punishment if we believe in retributive justice for such things. Some funny memes about it but people I know irl got mad at me for suggesting it’s kinda funny even though I agreed Will was in the wrong (the person who got mad at me has a history of being actually violent and facing no consequences for it so it’s hard for me to take him seriously tbh). Most people I know either thought it wasn’t that big of a deal or are convinced it’s fake so whatever.

I don’t think it was staged. It was so uncomfortable. I can’t even watch it because it seems like a unexpected confrontation. The beginning of quarantine was personally very nice for me, I had a very toxic guy friend who was just a major creep and he wouldn’t leave me alone at school, staying home gave me so much relief. I didn’t go back to school until the next school year, and seeing him then let me realize how much of a creepy asshole he was(is?). So quarantine actually helped me in that regard lol. Especially those who are having episodes of psychosis and are displaying violent behaviour. It's normally reassessed hourly to 2 hourly to see if it can be removed or it will just be loosened up.
