To Shumi Sir, with all due respect, please don't take this otherwise, I'm saying this since I genuinely want this channel to grow and think that you guys might appreciate honest feedback on podcast style videos, Sir, I think you should wait for Kartikeya Sir to pass the ball, for one, a curious viewer could get a little bit annoyed, but more so because it's a bit unfair towards Kartikeya Sir and arguably disrespectful. The snarky Shumi precisely echoed the thoughts of some us. I started off driving cars and ventured into motorcycles 2 years later. But given the direction that modern cars are taking, there's nothing exciting happening there as far as a motoring enthusiast in concerned. This blind love for the automatics from the customers' end which is leading to a slow death of the manuals, and the manufacturerers trying to outdo each other with electronics and gimmicks is only pulling the driver farther and farther away from the driving experience. At least, motorcycles are yet to be 'corrupted' or 'polluted' by these tendencies. I hope this lasts for a while before they too are forced to succumb to the 'electric wave'. On the other hand, excellent podcast. You guys did cover some serious ground and raise pertinent questions while maintaining the tone of humour throughout. Must say you are making maximum use of the two-person format. Good job!!

Thank you Adithya! We believe that a lot of the chaos in the car world (gimmick-wise) will settle and the sometimes nonsensical gadgets and gizmos are leading us towards the next big change in the car where the driver's time is about to be liberated from the mundane task of driving itself. All of these are puzzle pieces floating about looking for a place to fit into.

Shumi asked a question - Why does innovation happen in EVs and not in ICE Cars, why fancy tech is offered in EVs and hype is made around. To which Kartikeya's answer was "All EVs have same experience and hence they need to show the difference". I have a different take on this. Car makers like Hyundai have been selling ICE cars for decades now, they have already built a ICE platform and have series of different car segments on those platforms. When a customer walks in the Hyundai experience center he/she is going to see a lineup of Venue, Verna and Tucson which are ICE cars and have different power, and more or less a set feature set. Hyundai has to think how do I convince this customer to switch to EV or how do I ensure that he buys from Hyundai. Just having a decent range and torque is not going to help (other brands to offer it) Having a highly tech enabled car in the segment differentiates the product from the same brands ICE counterparts, which also justifies the high price for the EV. This is where I feel Indian brands like Mahindra and Tata should learn to differentiate their EV from regular ICE cars. Consumer needs to shift to EV or alternate fuel but just the powertrain is not sufficient, people need something more and significant. So in the end, Hyundai is like "Come to us, buy the Tucson for 40L or buy the future for just 55L", but do buy only from us. :)
@motorinc Жыл бұрын
The point here wasn’t so much about ICE vs EV, but as to why EVs are the way they are. Going hi-tech is the way forward. With EVs, there’s just no option. Tech is the core of the offering. 🤷♂️ Does that make sense?

I think Shumi sir is seeing this vehicle in the context of India only whereas it is a global product the lounge feature is used for when you have to halt for charging in a road trip you can see Netflix on the screen and lounge there and camping is pretty common in west so there is a use for the 3 pin socket there. I do agree with the regen mode though I think it should be changed with sports mode eco mode etc and a custom like the n button in international vehicles.

@motorinc3 ай бұрын
🤔 We usually hear the opposite @MR_G_YOUNG, the first and the last 10% is usually where Li-ion batteries are at their most stress so try not to let them discharge to that low unless you can't avoid it. Same goes for charging beyond 90% as well. To be very clear, you aren't actively damaging the battery if you let it drain below 10% or charge it above 90%. But if you want to increase your chances of protecting the battery's longevity, it's a good idea to do this.

I happened to visit a Hyundai showroom when the latest Tucson was launched and the best looking car of the lot was the Kona, to me. Ioniq trumps that by a huge margin, seems like Hyundai has hired a different design team for the EVs. Just to chime in, I think Kartikeya's camping trip should start with a call to the RSA so that by the time cooking, dinner and music is done and the car has run out of charge, the RSA would be nearby 😊 Also isn't that a Nespresso behind you guys on the table ? I commute from near Panvel to almost Andheri and the local train and metro commute makes me question my life choices 😆. The distance is around 36 kms for an hour (total 72 kms and 2 hrs) , and half of it is highway and the other half is city. Considering the fuel prices and the daily commute, I was looking towards electric alternatives, (not scooters) but I'm also open to ICE options. Considering it's a fairly large distance, a bike with an upright stance would be the most suitable, right? is the distance big enough to overlook many options just because of the riding stance? should I wait for better EV alternatives? (I can charge the ev in the office parking)

I have a better answer to Shumi’s question as to why we have features like pattern created by light in EV. It was funny when you guys were discussing the name😂. IONIC compounds are a broad category of chemicals which are important components of the batteries, maybe hence IONIQ.

One pedal driving sounds like we need to unlearn normal driving and learn EV driving again. Three pedals and manual gear shift is what I'm habituated with. Taking away the manual shift, the clutch itself is boring. Then EVs coming along and taking away the brake pedal too? Guess the next step is to take away steering and accelerator and give us a joystick like in video games. 😂😂😂
@motorinc Жыл бұрын
They're not taking the brake pedal away. They're just using regen as a chance to try something new... and it _can_ be very convenient. It's the same with reverse gear in e-scooters. It's something new and _can_ (but is not always) very convenient... and there's no reason to use if you don't think it is. Eventually? Eventually they take away everything so that the driving is automated and you can sit and chat with an AI bot on the journey 😆

Think Shumi is being negative just for the sake of being negative. There is no need for both being ultra positive about the features of the vehicle.. but when someone is negative about each and every single thing being said the whole thing loses its class. Doesn't feel genuine anymore. Karthik is actually very balanced and keeps one from just switching channels. Hope this s taken in the rite spirit..

One more addition.. I have now been a proud owner of ioniq5 for the past 1 week. The regen paddle shifter s absolutely useful.. when using ipedal in thick traffic and u move out of congestion u downshift to level 3 to ease out of the traffic. If u press on the accl on ipedal u will have press harder hence increasing the batt drain. Once u get the hang of it the paddle shifters just make so much sense.. u can't just drive use something once and then completely make a mockery of so much man hours spent developing this sort of tech just bcos u can.. very poor auto journalism Mr Shoomi..

Well i guess The Q stands for the Question mark. And yes the creta is ugly, the rear is ok though. But ioniq 5 is a design marvel. Its how an ultimate evolved polo or golf should be. The ioniq 6 is a mishmash of nissan 370z and porsce 911. However I love hatchbacks and to me this is the best looking hatch ever. Too bad its eccentric. Oops electric. Damn autocorrect.

Ashes! We agree fully on this, the Ioniq 5 is superb to look at! It's just very very large for a hatch!

But I have a question, if electric cars will be future let's say in 40 -45 years what about ice performance motorcycles like 650 twins , Dukes , liter class , as in previous podcast shumi said mid level adv motorcycles market will be bomming from Himalayan 450 .what the future will i able to ride motorcycles till my 50s or old age ?? Thankyou for such informative,fun and chill Content kartikeya,shumi and motoInc team take care 🙏❤️

I’m 40 years ICE will be history. As for how long we will have two wheelers on the road - that’s a tough question. With autonomous cars it will become a new world. Non-autonomous two-wheelers will they exist? Painful thought. But.. let’s enjoy now! And thanks for being here!

So kia ev 6 is imported that y it cost 50 lack... 100 % increase for imported cars right? So if it it's bulid in India it would be cost around 25 lack or something....???
@motorinc Жыл бұрын
It would cost around 50L if it was partly assembled, like the Ioniq. EV6 is brought in as a complete car - so duty is higher.

Small flaw... you're classifying discomfort as a bad thing. We think camping is the search for maximum comfort in a place of discomfort. And if it's comfortable enough, it's no longer camping at all! 🤣

Hehe. Those sun/moon roof, ottomans, calf extensions, etc will make a lot of sense when VanLife kicks off here. Property prices are on the rise, these electrics are practically 1BHKs on the move. Nice pod tho. What would you guys suggest, pull an early trigger on an electric now, or go out with a bang by owning the last diesels we'll ever see? 😉

Hola Sah! Thank you! And beaut of an idea - hehe - Camper life finally takes off in India! ICE in many ways is more logical and practical for more. EV - is more emotional and well suited to few (charging, usage has to be high). What would work for you?

Had the car been named the "Ionic5" it would've been clenching-convenience. Wouldn't want that. Also on a more serious note, getting a luxury car with it's feature set and comfort notwithstanding, always meant that the trade-off was going to be lesser mileage. With Luxury EVs and their enormous space on offer, does it mean that it's range has a directly proportional relationship with the size of the car?
@motorinc Жыл бұрын
Hey Karthik! A bigger vehicle will have more space to pack in more batteries. Which equals more range - that’s about it. The weight penalty would be compensated for by the jump in energy storage.
@vibhudoesntexist3 ай бұрын
I think the design differences that are there are because We perceive Electrics as things of the future... ICE have been in our lives for a long time now, all the "tech" came later Having an ICE vehicle which we are used to see everyday, with weird panels and edgy look would feel something's wrong It would be more polarizing than seeing it on an EV Brands are trying to make EV look more technologically advanced so you get a feeling you're getting something superior and futuristic (also because of the quiet cabin) Plus, yes, less moving parts....and like I mentioned the whole perception thing, and also the differentiation to make it different from the ICE cars They don't want us to compare them in an apples to apples manner like "a car and a car" They want us to go "an ICE and an EV"
