I'm late to the party but I too LOVED The Empty Man. I saw it in a theater with my dad and I alone about 2 months ago and I left in shock. Such a great film and hands-down my favorite of 2020 (out of 45 films). Hopefully it gains a cult following over the next few years.

I’m so glad you liked The Empty Man!! Me and my friends saw it earlier in the week (to take our minds of the election here in the US lol) and we were all super surprised by it!! I was expecting it to be cheesy trash but it was actually pretty scary and tense!! I’ll never get over the scene where the main guy goes into the woods and stumbles upon the “bonfire with friends” I’ll call it. Super unsettling and made me feel uncomfortable (I live in the woods, so woodsy horror really hits different for me😂). It’s definitely an underrated gem from this year! More people need to see it!!! Thankfully I got to see it in theatres, it’s definitely a great cinema experience. Also helps to go in somewhat blind!!

Just watched "The Empty Man" on your recomendation. In an empty theatre, fittingly. Never seen such effective horror mixed with such mediocre dialogue. The campground/bonfire scene was mesmerizing and I loved the opening and was worried it wouldn't get any better than that, but it had great moments throughout and a really satisfying ending! 7.5/10 for me. Just brought down by the dialogue and some so/so performances.

You like The Empty Man!? Bugga. I'am the opposite. I gave it a 2/5. It's not as bad as some other recent releases but... My positive's: - I thought I stumbled into the wrong cinema when T.E.M. started lol. It caught me off guard and It was actually a good start. - The whispering in the ears is a trigger for me personally. I did feel tension/horror in these moments. In addition the country camp scene was kinda original. My negative's: - This did not need to be 2hrs and 17mins! - The whole bottle/bridge premise is so dumb. - The rest of the film's scares were telegraphed and repetitive. Making the rest of the movie dull/boring. - Performances are not good. - The true ending still blows a fuse in my mind. I couldn't buy it. You can set a movie up to be one thing and have it change on a dime if your premise and execution is real and good enough. I'm sorry but I could not accept and buy that the entire runtime of this movie was actually THAT. You are a boss Emma. 😁

Re: "Trick 'r Treat"; When Marilyn Manson's "Sweet Dreams" kicks in, the best part of the movie is starting. The whole movie, imo, is amazing, so that says something.

Just watched a great, so-bad-its-good Aussie bogan splatter horror comedy from 1993 called Body Melt (on Amazon Prime). It's worth seeing just to watch iconic TV cop Gerard Kennedy trying to keep a straight face through the insanity that ensues.

Hey Emma, I just had a quick search and couldn't see if you'd covered Brandon Cronenberg's first film Antiviral 2012... it is honestly amazing. Pitched very similarly to Possessor, i.e. gloomy black mirror-esque pessimistic future that's really not too hard to imagine... incredible performances... along with Luca Guadagnino, Gaspar Noe, Yorgos Lanthimos, Benson/moorhead - I'd say Brandon Cronenberg is a film maker I'm in constant excitement to see their work.

The Dark and the Wicked was finally a solid horror movie in 2020, it's been a pretty lame year, a lot of thriller with some horror elements. But really hard to find a film that scares anymore. Horror genre is getting to soft for my taste.

I just saw "The Cleansing Hour" and I was loving what I was seeing until that last big twist. The twists throughout the film were well done and made it fun, but you know that old saying about "one twist too many"? That really hurt the film for me and it knocked my score from a pending 8/10 down to a 6/10.

This is the comment I was looking for. I loved this movie. It wasn't perfect, but damn! It was sad and creepy and had a great story. I can see the influence from the Us and Antebellum type of movie, which is awesome because it was good. We need more movies like His House.
