Denise Amber Lee was a 21-year-old woman from North Port, Florida, whose tragic 2008 kidnapping and murder highlighted critical issues in emergency response systems. Denise was abducted from her home by Michael King, a man who had planned the crime in advance. Despite several 911 calls, including one from Denise herself during her captivity and others from witnesses who saw suspicious activity, miscommunication and delays in law enforcement response led to her death. The case became a turning point for advocating improvements in 911 dispatch systems, including better training, technology, and communication protocols to prevent similar tragedies. Denise’s husband, Nathan Lee, became a vocal advocate for enhancing emergency response systems and founded the Denise Amber Lee Foundation, which works to ensure public safety through improvements in the 911 system. The case underscores the importance of effective communication between 911 operators, law enforcement, and the public to save lives in emergencies.

You don't have to risk your life or chase the guy down (some good Samaritan's have actually done this and helped) but like come on, you see he had a bound up woman you don't know and you just "stay out of it" Hell no. I don't care who it is, I'm calling police and I'll fight you if I have to to stop you. I don't even like local corruption either. I have no issue fighting my partner if I was a cop and he did something wrong. I don't understand how people cower like this, unless they're just bad people too, it makes sense.

Well, "stay out of it", when "it" is someone witnessing a kidnapping, with the tragic result of the victim being murdered (I convey all my sorrow to her father, her husband and her children. He invited a woman over and plowed her with alcohol (he did not drink) and when she woke up he was having sex with her. There were definitely warning signs. But, I personally don't think he intended to bring Denise around his family, I think he was desperate because he had already kidnapped and brutally assaulted her, and he needed those items to finish what he started. I believe he had NO intentions of his cousin seeing Denise, he walked up to his house alone, got the items and said his lawn mower broke down, and when he was walking back to his vehicle w/ the items, thats when the cousin saw Denise. Michael kept pushing her head down in the back, and sped off and said "everything is fine" right when his cousin questioned Wtf is going on. I know I'm saying this in the aftermath of the situation but trust me I've been through calls one in particular that sticks out with this situation is hear the gun go off that killed my caller. The guy had no clue she was on the phone with me he just was there to do the thing and she gave me the answers I needed in the simplest of ways with the question's I asked. What direction they’re going and which city they’re approaching and pass that information along to ground officers, the helicopter, and nearby departments. You can also provide landmark information they are passing or nearby (a lake, a random gas station, etc.). Just saying “he took the phone from her” and be done is not okay. They should have also done an emergency ping with the cell phone number they received, and the phone provider would have been able to provide latitude and longitude coordinates to where the phone was last seen active. I would request a continuous ping as long as the phone was on. Detectives also listen in on the radios and don’t usually show themselves online so they could have started heading in that direction and searching for the car if they weren’t already in the middle of something. They did that a TON in the city I worked for. In the city I worked for we also had a radio that allowed you to broadcast to every nearby city’s dispatch center with the touch of a button where you could provide BOLO info and request assistance from neighboring cities if you need additional officers, a helicopter (we didn’t have a helicopter, but other cities did), etc. She could have asked her supervisor and/or the channel operator to say something like “BOLO for a vehicle headed into [city name] from the [cardinal direction]. A woman is screaming that she is being kidnapped. Sounds like a male was driving. We do not have vehicle description or names. This is for reference to any calls you may get regarding this. Please reach out to the [city] Police Department with any information.” And you 100% pass that information along during shift change. It does not matter how excited you are to go home. That’s something you write on your notes in huge, highlighted letters and leave for the next dispatcher to work off of. It didn’t sound like any of that was done from this video, at least. And after hearing 2 dispatchers were suspended, I wouldn’t be surprised if that one was one of them.

Idc that Harold, the cousin didn’t call 911. I care that he didn’t intervene. I care that he gave his cousin all the tools he did, to hide the woman he saw fighting off his cousin, after she was murdered. I care that his daughter showed more integrity, courage, and morality than her father. Harold is not just a coward. Harold is not just a POS. Harold is a cowardly ass POS. Harold should also be in jail. What an absolute pathetic excuse for men these three are. They were trying to confirm that she was actually the kidnapped person. While dispatch definitely failed her, that wasn't one of the ways. People call in pretending to be victims, so they were attempting to confirm that she was really Denise Lee and that the information they were getting wasn't from a person who would ultimately have led them away from the real kidnapping.

Actually they failed her because she called 911 and it was routed to her dad's police department.. and since the department focused ALL RESOURCES to find her (although it's out of investigation jurisdiction) they IGNORED HER because they were focusing on Denise lol it didn't occur to them she is the same person lol, even phone operators were only focusing on helping the fellow police officer' daughter and decided to ignore all unrelated calls! Funny thing that the dad sued his department for their nepotism! Crazy world!

Dispatchers need no degree, just a high school diploma. They should at least have a communications degree at minimum. They get on the job training, and boom, your life is in their hands. Very scary for law enforcement as well as citizens.

@Nana-jy8pc12 күн бұрын
They need to make more requirements to become a 911 dispatcher. There are far too many cases of dispatchers making life threatening mistakes or just being insensitive and stupid while talking to people currently in danger. Like that one case where the woman was put in a barrel by her husband and managed to call 911, the dispatcher thought it was a prank call and accused her of faking instead of immediately taking it seriously. The woman could barley breath and was going in and out of consciousness and the dispatch literally asked “so are you gonna talk to me or just breathe loudly into the phone”
@ZeonGenesis10 күн бұрын

@@boganshazz821 If you took emergency calls seriously you would say something like "are you in danger right now" Cough once for yes or twice for no etc. Standard stuff if you are an emergency call operator actually expecting an emergency situation of the other end of the line. There are far too many of these types of calls, operators not taking them seriously and even mocking callers - and as pointed out. There was no standardised training before this.

Not everybody is qualified to be an 911 operator, especially those who don't have presence of mind. No wonder there is so much training which goes to call center employees to look for signs in a customer. A 911 operator, on the other hand, should be 100% vigilant for signs and good presence of mind, it doesn't matter how silly a call might sound.
