Since my early teens I have always weighed close to 200 pounds. I'm now over 60 and in the last year-and-a-half have lost 103 lb. 20 years ago I fractured my back in five places when I slipped on ice, I also have spinal stenosis. Even though I was a big girl I did ballet and gymnastics and was very solid. That changed with my back injury. I found this site and have discovered exercises that I can do comfortably at home. I am noticing the changes gradually and I am glad I found this channel. They're easy to understand I don't feel I'm being talked at but spoken to. I'm quite pleased thank you

Hello
@jumpercable202 жыл бұрын
I was a gymnast in high school, I came in 35th in the state of Georgia on the rings, and 105th on the horizontal bar, most of it was easy because I was 5'7" and 114 lbs, then I joined the military in 5 weeks i gained over 40 lbs, my drill instructor ran the over weight off of me, now zoom forward to 2020, I'm 68 and weigh 229. I had friend give me a cancer scare and it shook me to the core. I fasted, ate one meal a day and lost 67 LBS in 18 months, I understand what people mean when they say that over the age of 60, unless you work out, you'll lose 10% of your muscle mass ever year. I believe it. In high school I could do 200 situps and over 100 pushups---->easy I was light, Now (53 years later) I'm down to 160 and 5 pushups kill me. But I'm determined to get back my 6 pack abs and muscle up. Just wish me luck, when I pass over to the other side, I want to look Mavelous.

Thank you so much for sharing your inspiration and knowledge with us! You have helped me in so many ways. I found you last year when recovering from a tibial plateau fracture (Biking accident while training for a sprint triathelon). These strength exercises are very similar to ones I've done for the past 5 years (I'm now 73 years old), and the doctors credit fitness level to my rapid healing. Consistency is key....do what you can do with what you have on any given day. Over time it will make a huge difference in how you feel and your quality of life. Wish me luck as I train for my second marathon....it will be slow, but the real goal is to finish with a smile and all parts intact! And yes, I have gotten back on that bike....😉

Question: I used to take aerobic classes and we always started with 'warm-ups', which was a way to get your blood and heart starting to pump and "warm up those muscles", the teacher always said. Would you recommend warming up before starting these exercises or can one start out with these exercises without 'warm-up' exercising?

Thank you Bob & Brad for sharing this video. My mother is suffering from cervical neuropathy and polyneuropathy in her foot. She always feel that when she is walking there is no sensation, a padded foot. She is above 75 Docs suggested for a cervical spine surgery first. Then, considering her age they told not to go for surgery because it won't suit her. They recommended to do physical exercise. Can you please share some video regarding this. It would be a great help. Thanking you in advance.

She could maybe benefit from a trial period of intense anti-inflammatory treatment as pinched nerves from any reason can cause limb numbness. Check if she has any signs of cranial congestion - pressure or sensations in head, ears, vision, sinuses, nose/throat, and neck. Cold compress on forehead and/or back of neck, OTC antihistamines, low histamine and anti-inflammatory diet, controlled deep breathing, stress relief, affirmations, long slow walks in pleasant surroundings (with cane or walker if needed). Lots of sitting is not recommended as it could be a circulatory problem in the leg, too. God bless ❤🙏❤

I love your videos. I've been working out for decades but as I near 60 years of age, I don't want to stop working out but I realize I do have to tweak my routine a bit to prevent injury. How many reps and sets should I be doing? My orthopedic doc said it's not necessary to do more than one set of about 16 reps with a challenging weight but still follow correct form. He said the gains you get from an additional set aren't worth it especially if you are trying to work out in a 45 minute time period including cardio. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS AND REPS AND SETS? Thanks

That's a very good question! I have issues with healing, (unsuspected nutrient absorption deficiencies!) so I was advised to do no more than 2-3 days a week until I can build my endurance back up and my blood tests level off. When the exercises get easy, I can add a few reps, and when I hit "normal" I can add another day, until I'm up to 6 days a week. I've been taught that even the Lord took a7th day off to rest and rejoice...! 😁

I don't know of any exercises for hiatus, but I was advised by my gastroenerologist to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day to keep the stomach from being under so much pressure. It took a long time but I managed to avoid surgery. Now, the hole is still there but my lungs aren't being crowded by my stomach anymore. Best thing to do is lose weight...and believe me, I'm still in the middle of that battle! It's a lot harder, the older I get. Things don't work the same way anymore.

Given your job, you two both know very well that older people can be incredibly fit and young people can have conditions that have seriously compromised their fitness and stamina. This clickbait caption is insulting. I'm really glad the physical therapists I've worked with seem to be more capable of recognizing the limitations many people face in regaining their mobility and strength. People are going to get hurt trying to do the things you suggest. And you shouldn't be flaring out your ribcage while doing the shoulderblade exercise. You should engage your upper abs instead.

@@juliecramer7768 I'm a 39 year old woman facing increasingly limited mobility and strength because I listened to healthcare professionals who gave shitty recommendations based on limited information because ultimately all they cared about was the money. If I tried to do most of the exercises they have on this clickbait garbage I would likely injure my neck or low back. The one exercise I can do they demonstrated improperly. They keep putting out bad content, and they don't care because it gets views.

@@rocki_bb Hello. I know this is a really late reply but I feel this has to be said: As someone who has worked in the field I can tell you these exercises are perfect for strengthening even for those who are weaker or have injuries. If you actually watched the video you can see that they provide variations for those who are weaker. For certain injuries as well, it is very important to strengthen the area of the injury. For example the glute bridge exercise they showed is something I have demonstrated and prescribed to patients in the past with low back injuries. In any case this video is mainly intended for those over 60 who are not necessarily injured but want to get back into shape. For other circumstances there are many other videos on this channel that address issues such as injuries and what to do for them. Lastly, it is important to realize that none of these videos can replace going to a physiotherapist and being properly assessed for your particular condition. These are merely general suggestions for people to try at home if they feel up to it.
@rocki_bb4 жыл бұрын
@@bbdude333 thank you for giving me your thoughtful feedback on my comment. I'm not going to give them another view to completely reacquaint myself with the specifics of the video, so please forgive me for not being able to discuss the specifics. I lost any respect I had for them as I watched more videos. They are cashing in on the fact that so many can't afford the cost of physical therapy, even with insurance. Their entire channel is geared towards people looking for physical therapy exercises, not general fitness advice (unless it's changed in a year.) I have significantly more respect for Athlean-X. Despite his videos being geared towards those who are significantly more fit than I, I can find evidence based information on how to confront various issues, learn about the physiology behind various problems, learn the proper technique for various exercises, and learn how to avoid injury while doing them. I hope you stay safe & healthy in the coming weeks & months ❤
@bbdude3334 жыл бұрын
@@rocki_bb Thank you for your reply. While I disagree I respect your opinion. However, it is important to note that while they are giving physical therapy exercise advice (and yes general fitness advice in some videos), they put a disclaimer in every video description that this does not replace being assessed by a health care professional. Further, the advice they are giving is free for us. We don't pay a cent. Them profiting off the advice they are giving by uploading it to KZbin seems fair to me. Also, Athlean-X is a great channel and I am also a fan of his videos and his evidence based approach. However, that doesn't mean that Bob & Brad are not evidence based. Many of their videos address the latest evidence in the field of fitness and health. Again, I totally respect your viewpoint, but please do not jump to conclusions about this channel without looking at all the facts. Thank you for your kind words. I also wish you all the best in these trying times. Stay healthy and positive. ☺
