Seeing Geddy, Alex, Les Claypool, Matt Stone & trey Parker on stage is freaking amazing! Although, it makes me a little sad that Neil is gone, and Geddy's voice is far weaker than it used to be.
@newforestpixie52972 жыл бұрын
@@lgd1974 I don’t understand why they didn’t draft a female in to do the distinctive voice because it sounds like he’s really having to work at it and can’t get near some of those very high notes . Yes would’ve given their post 2004 work a boost if they’d found some enchanting creature to fill Jon Anderson’s boots. Then again a lot of those old Prog acts seemed to avoid girls in their line ups . 🐢🏴❤️
@lgd19742 жыл бұрын
@@newforestpixie5297 To understand this band better, I seriously recommend you watch the Rush Documentary "Beyond the Lighted Stage". It wasn't that Rush was actively seeking to avoid putting a female in their band. It's wrong to assume that. Geddy and Alex are childhood friends and were pretty nerdy. Even if they tried to get girls in their band, they'd have massively failed. Geddy originally was a guitar player, and the lead vocalist they had for a few months quit, as did their bassist. So Geddy took over those duties. Geddy DEVELOPED a high pitch voice because he wanted the lyrics to be heard. I don't know about other progressive rock bands, but I do know Rush.

This actually brought tears to my eyes ... very emotional. All I can think about is his young Daughter that lost her Dad. And then you know how powerful and personal music is to the rest of the guys in Rush. I am sure they were both filled with so much emotion there on stage. Then I saw all the shocked people in the audience. This is just so powerful.

Ok as a bass nerd I have to say, not only is it cool as hell to see Les with a Rickenbacker, but the same Ric that Geddy Lee played??? While he’s literally on stage with Geddy?!?!? I’m geekin (also, Ler playing every note/riff perfectly with Alex is badass)

Yeah, I was wondering how they would've set that up without him knowing but making sure he was at least somewhat prepared. Maybe Trey already knew this was one of Matt's favorite songs that he practices regularly, or maybe leading up to the event he could've just nudged him along like like, "Hey man, I really dig this song would you mind practicing it with me?"

@Spuds is right. Geddy and Alex wrote all the guitar and bass parts. After original drummer John Rutsey’s departure (the best thing that ever happened to the rock n roll world IMHO) Neil wrote all the lyrics (except “Dreams”) with assistance from Geddy during the songwriting process to help the words and phrasings fit the music. Also Neil contributed greatly to the writing of the music. It was a true collaboration, give and take in the best musical sense.
