My husband worked in IT all his life and got laid off several times. I did so appreciate that unlike some other laid-off husbands I knew, he dove into the "homemaker" job - cooking, cleaning, school stuff with the kids - while I worked full-time at the hospital. He was actually better at some of that stuff than I was. So, good for you.

That is great that the person who asked the last question is now losing weight and has relaxed their feelings of needing to be perfect through watching your videos. Listening to Dr Furhman can be intimidating and intense, but like everything, there is a spectrum or bell curve. He is all the way on the right side of that curve, for sure. We know that the more you do towards a WFPB diet, the better for your health, but you don’t have to be perfect. Progress, not perfection is the goal. The late, great Dr McDougall said that if a little salt or sugar will get someone to eat more healthy foods, such as sugar on oatmeal, then have it. it’s better than eating an animal based diet. I enjoy your Q&A videos!

Hi Jeremy! I’m with you, I’m not the least bit interested in trying lab meat. Just the thought of it disgusts me. I haven’t eaten any animal products for about four years and I don’t miss them a bit. Like you I did it for health, not the animals, but now my heart breaks for the animals when I see meat or think about the suffering they go through. It’s interesting how not eating them has softened my heart towards that part of this.

Enjoy hearing your responses to audience questions as you and your family are so relatable! To that question about your homemaker status, we’ve used that term ‘homemaker’ back in the day to imply that one was a stay at home parent who didn’t earn an income and before people worked from the home. And your kids rock! I would have had difficulty as a teen if I was plant based because I was so apt to want to be like everyone else… but that was back in the 70s and times were different then and so happy that we’ve evolved! The comment about wanting to be 100 percent or be a loser may have partly emanated from Dr. Joel Fuhrman who states that 90 percent is still not good enough and personally I just think it’s too rigid for most of us if we want to stay sane and practical. Thanks always for your thoughtful responses! You are a lifeline for many of us out there.

I recently had all my blood work done, and all of my cardiac numbers are in bad shape and I’ve been put on a statin drug. I have been pretty much a vegetarian for many years, but not seriously enough. Now this scares me being 66 years old and not paying enough attention to eating even more healthy. My doctor very plainly told me “you are at the highest risk for a heart attack or stroke”. My father died of heart disease at 57, almost 10 years younger than me, so watching your channel and seeing how excited you get testing recipes and giving all the tips that you can, are encouraging me to work harder and experiment more in the kitchen with the WFPB lifestyle. Thank you and your family for educating us and showing us how delicious WFPB can be.

I loved your convo with your teens. We are in the SAME BOAT with 2 teens here in Southern California and their answers would be similar to your kiddos - Although my 14-year-old has mentioned WISHING she liked the taste of cheese because it would make life with friend's houses/school/restaurants easier for her. But she wasn't raised on it so it's extremely off-putting for her. Also, REALLY valued the candor of the final comment and conversation in the video and I too struggle with the content in vegan spaces that (sometimes even unknowingly) overemphasizes perfection. It took me years to realize that I I need to be vigilant about what content I take in - That part is up to me. Content that hyper-focuses on rigidity leads me to an obsession/guilt/dissatisfaction spiral. Content that emphasizes vegan health in a joy-filled, realistic way inspires/confirms me. So, yeah it stinks that there are rigidity/perfectionistic leaders out there but we can choose to steer clear of them too! We've got agency, right?!
@pbwithjeremy
@pbwithjeremy 21 сағат бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing this-I absolutely loved reading your thoughts! I can totally relate to your 14-year-old’s comment about cheese; it’s such a common “wish” among plant-based teens navigating social settings. But honestly, it’s amazing that she’s so self-aware and has already found what works for her, even if it means standing out a little. Kudos to you for raising such a thoughtful kiddo! I’m so glad you appreciated the candor in the video and the final conversation. It’s something I feel strongly about-acknowledging that we’re all just doing our best and that perfection isn’t the goal. You’re so right about the need to filter the content we consume. That spiral of obsession, guilt, and dissatisfaction is real, and it can sneak up on you. I love how you framed it: we have agency! It’s empowering to remind ourselves that we can steer clear of the rigidity and instead focus on content that supports joy and balance. Thanks again for taking the time to connect-it means so much to know this resonated with you! Sending lots of solidarity from one teen-parent to another. 😊

On the veggie broth, I’ve found citrus rinds make things incredibly bitter. Onions and garlic are essential, cruciferous vegetables actually do work because I roast my veggie scraps and add a touch of miso and agave to the water when simmering. Carrot and celery scraps are also vital.

I wouldn't eat lab grown meat because even though it doesn't involve killing animals but still involves animal exploitation through the removal of cells from the animal I wouldn't feel comfortable with eating it. I do prefer to eat a vegan diet with the majority of the food being whole plant foods based with some ultra processed foods. Love 🥰 the video and love 💗 Jeremy & family.

I was vegetarian age 13 to age 26. I started eating meat because I was in culinary school and if you didn’t cook and eat it in food lab you’d fail. I was sick for a long time when I started to eat meat. If I had more than a couple bites I actually threw up and was green. Took about two years to not be sick. Apparently you don’t have the enzymes to break it down so it just putrifies in your gut. I am now 48 and have been vegan for nearly 4 years and so much happier. I would not be interested in lab grown meat either. Yuck. And I agree with Annie…the smell is gross. My husband is SAD eater and the smell grosses me out so bad I open windows.

Agree with the last mail. Gregor and Furhman are the idols in this space but so hard to do in our modern culture if just once you have to eat outside of home. Also they seem salt free and I know the lower the better but if you ever try to serve that kind of salt free home cooked meal to a friend, just watch their face😂 All that to say, it’s super easy for me when we’re in our home bubble but there has to be some wiggle room that allows us to look after our health, the animals and the environment without renouncing friends and outside activities. So imperfection is definitely the way to go there! P.s. love the cookbook, just had the Annie loaf for dinner😁

Great answer about lab grown meat. No matter what source meat comes from it has proven to be bad for our health. I didn't quit eating meat because I hate it, I quit for the sake of my health. And I have fought outrageous addiction to quit eating it. I like that it happens to be good for the planet when we don't eat meat, and even better for the animals. For sure, if I had to be the one to kill an animal to have it for food, it would NEVER happen. I couldn't even stand to kill it humanely. I think that's true for most of us. It sounds like lab grown meat removes that element. Doesn't matter; meat is still unhealthy. Besides, when ever man tampers with anything, it usually ends up in disaster.

I used to eat Quorn when I lived in the UK, that is a weird fungal biomas grown in large silos, cut into various nuggety things and sold as a kind of faux chicken. It is so interesting how we all come to veganism from different points of view. You said multiple times in this video that you did not do it for the animals but for health reasons. The only reason I am vegan is because of the animals. I was vegetarian for so long and did not realize how cruel the dairy industry was. Once I came to that realization that was it for me 100% vegan.

Thank you so much for sharing your perspective. It’s fascinating how veganism draws people in for such diverse reasons-whether it’s for health, the environment, or, as in your case, for the animals. I completely respect and admire your dedication to the ethical side of it. While my journey started with health, I’ve learned so much along the way about the broader implications, including the realities of the dairy industry. Everyone’s path is different, but I think we all contribute to the same bigger picture-creating a kinder, more compassionate world. Thank you for being part of that! ❤️

Thank you for sharing how you’re feeling-it’s so common to struggle with balance, especially when life feels exhausting. Remember, you’re not failing; you’re navigating a tough situation. Start small-keep easy, healthy options on hand like pre-chopped veggies or soup, and focus on adding good things rather than subtracting. It’s okay to enjoy some junk food; the goal isn’t perfection, it’s progress. Taste buds adjust, so ease back into healthy eating with flavors you enjoy. Most importantly, be kind to yourself-you’re doing your best, and that’s enough. You can work on eliminating the junk food over time.
