Falafel is a simple street food, a Middle Eastern fast food if you will. Yet, for something served up on pretty much every street corner, it can seem exceedingly difficult and daunting to get right at home. Not anymore! This homemade falafel is so easy to make, packed with flavor and crispy even without deep-frying.
My biggest struggle used to be producing golden crispy falafel. I know traditional falafel is always deep-fried, but I just really didn't want to go that route. While deep-frying produces the most crispy and delicious falafel, it also adds a lot of calories and free radicals. I tried baking the falafel in the oven, frying it in the pan with just a little bit of oil, but it just never came out as crispy as from a deep-fryer. I literally went through bags of chickpeas, trying different modifications, but just couldn't get it right. Until one day my husband bought me an air fryer. The air-fried falafel is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfect on salads or stuffed in a pita with some tahini dressing.

A famous and amazing sauce that goes with falafel is tahini sauce, it's made with raw tahini, water, lemon and salt(optionally also parsley and garlic) :)

I made the falafels in the air fryer along with your tzatziki sauce tonight and received rave reviews. I didn’t think they would come together at first so I halved the recipe and now I’m regretting it because my sons ate all of them in one sitting. I’m soaking my second batch of chick peas to make some more. Both recipes are a must try! Thank you!!!

I made those falafels in my airfryer! To be honest I was afraid of the result because I usually use thas kitchen appliance only to make fried potatoes. But it did it so good! I couldn't believe it! So, the recipe itself and the combination of all the ingredients in it are superb! The taste is amazing, not too spicy and delicious! Also, I added a 1/4 of lemon juice because I wanted them a little bit acid and it turn out great)) Now I have some new idea what to cook at home! Although it seams difficult to make the falafel from the first sight but it's not! I can say that it's an easy recipe to make. The only work you have to do - is to make round small balls before frying them) But it's simple and fast enough! Thank you, Petra!!! You make my house smell so good and make me to eat healthy variety of dishes!

I'm considering buying an air fryer. I love pan fried falafel. The outside is so crispy and the inside is moist and fluffy. I've baked them once and I really didn't like it. What is the texture of falafels that are air fried? I'd really appreciate your opinion!
@rani_jenny
@rani_jenny 5 жыл бұрын
@@aysharafique4941 I fried them in airfryer at about 170°C for about 15 minutes and the were crispy outside and moist inside! But I think the best combination to eat falafel is to serve them with Hummus or Tzatziki sauce. They work together really great! For the first time I tried falafels in Israel and they were pan fried in a lot of oil and of course they were more soft that air fried. But air fried are moist as well and it's better than to bake them on the oven for sure! I also noticed in Israel that is spite of fact that falafel were pan fried and had moist, soft texture inside - they always were served with hummus or other sauces. So for that kind of dish it's good to combine them with sauce :) So, my conclusion is that - air fried falafels are moist inside for sure! You have only to adjust, to get used to your airfryer, make some tests maybe as well in order not to over fry them there :)

@@aysharafique4941 If you like fried potatoes, you will love to make them in air fryer as well!They are amazing in this fryer! I make them with a very little amount of oil. As well as, Petra has said that sweet potatoes from air fryer are delicious! I definitely going to make them there one day!

My favorite way to make falafel is with a waffel iron. I add blue corn masa harina to make it a complementary protein and to add crunch. Also if you sprout the garbanzo bean to about 1/4 inch, it is more nutritious and tastes about 100 times better. I pressure cook the sprouted beans for nine minutes in my instant pot. They still stay firm, but it destroys the lectins. I then put them in the food processor with all the other stuff.

I have just set up my (first), (Breville) food processor and have some soaked chickpeas ready to make falafel (I cooked them, but won't next time now). So your vid is SO timely, I couldn't believe it. I will definitely pan-fry, as my mum & I don't have an air-fryer. I'd LOVE an air-fryer, but it was a squeeze trying to fit the food processor in the kitchen already, due to the limited space. You guys also solved for me the problem of how to process the garlic and onion, as I knew it would over-process the chickpeas to get those two ingredients minced. Great vid....thanks a lot!

I’m from Greece and just a friendly tip:don’t put lemon in the sauce !!it ruins the yogurt taste.Also the cucumber should be sliced in little squares (like ,if you cut a slice you should cut it twice more) because you want the cucumber “juice” to not blend with the yogurt and to blow in your mouth (that’s also a reason that it can stay longer in the fridge)!I love your videos and falafel,definitely I will give your recipe a try 💙

I tried to do this for the second time but no matter what I do, they just fall apart even while forming them. I tried adding 4-5 times as much chickpea flour and still they fall apart, tried with ground flax seed, same thing. The only way I can make it, is by having at least 30% of the balls covered in oil, otherwise they fall apart. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I'm thinking about blending it more, to a mush, maybe that will help stay together?

@@NutritionRefined Hello and Thanks for getting back to me, I used oil in a frying pan. Not really sure what oil it was but I believe it was carona oil or vegetable oil. I let the oil heat up and then add them to the oil
