Pretty unlucky guy, born on Christmas, VFW emblem (requires overseas combat service) hopefully he was not back in the service, 12-25-44 was during the battle of the bulge. My grandfather was a little older, but disabled from WWI, men his age did serve in WWII, especially senior officers, medical stall and technical guys, officer and enlisted. A friend of my dad’s landed first wave at Omaha beach at 51, it wasn’t common, but there were old timers. Hopefully Riley died at home and not in a frozen hole in Europe

Hi Steve. Again another fantastic vlog. Thank you for including Corrie ten Boom. Her family saved Jews by risking their lives. She has a plaque at the Yad Vashem in Israel. I share a birthday with another famous person who saved many people from the Nazis. On April 28, 1908 Oskar Schindler was born. My birthday is April 28 as well. While living in Jerusalem I visited his grave many times. His grave is just a very short distance from the Walled Old City. His grave overlooks a beautiful Forest. Several times while at his grave I met people he saved and their descendants. Meeting these people was probably the most emotional event that I have ever experienced.

@@TheGraveyardChannel my cemetery selfie would be this true story. I don't know how to make it happen, because my selfie would be at serial killer Gary Gilmore gravesite wherever that is. You see, I am the only known survivor of his rampage. He let me walk away in Oregon way back in the 70s. It's difficult to speak about to this day. My parents were mortified with the Oregon state police and FBI interrogation of this disaster. My sketch composite matched his face and contributed to his conviction and subsequent execution. Maybe you can use this as another groundbreaking way of your channel. You have sparked in me, my past experience. I never spoke about it for 40 some years, but if it gives you an outlet of your work, I will gladly participate.

Wow, Hugh, thanks for sharing this with us. I'm a bit speechless. What an awful and traumatic experience that must have been for you and how lucky you were to have survived. Hopefully it helps to talk about it after all those years. Thanks!

Corrie Ten Boom has been one of my heroes since I read her book as a kid. I also saw the movie and own it now. I also have other movies/videos that she made or were made about her. She was such an inspiration after WWII also and talks about how after one of her speeches a Nazi soldier who had been at one of the camps she was in came up to her and asked for her forgiveness. It amazes me that she was able to do so. I had always hoped to meet her in person and was so sad when she had her stroke and then died. Thank you for showing me her grave.

Because of the year that Astor was born there most likely isn't a birth certificate. Back then they didn't require them until much later. In fact that really wasn't required until decades later and even then it took awhile to enforce it. Being an actress she probably wouldn't want to say her real age because then they may think she's too old. That may be a mystery forever. Great vlog as always! It's interesting to see so many that pass on their birthday.

Wow, those are two very good points. I didn't know about the birth certificates. And I completely forgot that many celebs, especially in show biz, give false dates of birth because of vanity and to keep their jobs and fans. Kind of sad. Thanks, Rhetty, for probably solving this mystery!

A wonderful video to start the New Year. I appreciate that you include information about notable people throughout history whether they are interred locally or not. I find it a little ironic that someone as accomplished as Ingrid Bergman would not have a final resting place. As I'm sure you already know, Daryl Dragon (from The Captain and Tennille) just died as has Super Dave Osborne. So many well-known people are passing away. Thanks again for a very informative video. Happy New Year.

I'm planning to do a vlog about the super famous who have been cremated and scattered and have no final resting place for fans to visit. I agree, it's ironic and even shocking! Especially since there are so many of them. I visited Daryl Dragon's dad's grave, last year. If Daryl has a final resting place, I will try to visit it this year. Thanks, as always, PC and Happy New Year to you, too! I'm sure it will be an interesting adventure, as every year is!

This was so interesting. My beloved husband Colin died on my brother's b/day and a friend of mine died on my son's birthday she always said she was afraid she would be forgotten when she died. My family and I remember her always. Tyvm for posting. Happy 2019

Thanks for sharing the memory of your husband and friend with us, Wendy. Feel free to send a photo of your friend's grave, or a selfie at her grave to make it even more personal, if you want me to share it here, so she can be remembered by viewers here, too.

@@TheGraveyardChannel I would if I could, Joy's brother had her cremated (2008) he has some of her ashes, the rest he took to a sister in he USA from what I know. Colin wanted to be cremated and his ashes sprinkled at the farm umumuri he grew up on and loved. His parents sold the farm which he ran for them. He died 2013 but it took me until 2018 to finally comply with his wishes. I still have the box the ashes came in which our son will bury on our property somewhere. I salute good hearted folk like you who remember people famous or not. Our loved one's are famous and star's to us always loved forever that's why your channel is wonderful remembering all kinds of people :)

Gertrude Astor was a hoot! I love the Our Gang/Little Rascals (pre-MGM shorts anyway) and Astor always seemed to be in the center of the Rascals mischief.

I agree with you about dying on one's birthday. It's the cycle of life.
