My problem with the purge movies is that the planning and preparation of a crime is illegal - some of these people get so elaborate planning would need to be done PRIOR to the purge night. And what if you rob a store on purge night - are you guilty of having stolen goods the next day?

Yeah, it's an interesting question. Theft may be legal, but does possession at the end of Purge night translate to a change of ownership? Or would you still be guilty of possession of stolen property? And of course, if they can identify you, well, you know there's going to be a system set up where people can put out hits on other people on Purge night, and there would be a lot of retaliatory things happening the next Purge. I'd expect the biggest impact the Purge would have is fewer divorces, because more than a few relationships would end that night. Though most pre-nups/wills would probably have a Purge night death condition on them.

RE: The timeline of The Purge movies (Copy/Pasted from an /r/horror thread about The Purge 3): Something that bugged me: I don't recall them stating in movie what year this takes place, but the official website states this movie takes place 2 years after The Purge: Anarchy which takes place on the night of the 6th annual Purge*. That means Election Year would be the 8th annual Purge, but Roan's family was killed on Purge Night 18 years prior, 10 years before the Purge ever even started. *As Leo is first leaving the garage in his armored car, a voice on the radio says, "The sixth Annual Purge will begin in 45 minutes." Additionally, a screen with one of the New Founding Fathers says they were voted in "nine years ago," which means they would have been in power for 11 years in Election Day but, if I remember correctly, a line of dialogue in Election Day says they've been in power for 25 years.

18 years later is in reference to the opening scene with child Roan. First Purge is 2014. So Purge Election year is 2032 or later. Purge Anarchy is 2023. So Election Year is 9+ years after Anarchy.

I mean it shows people having dinner parties and rallies, but in any large group there will be a number of people pissed off at others in the group. If you kidnap someone on purge do you have to return them by the end of the night? Will I be charged with kidnapping, if I still posses the person after the Purge has ended? If I rob a bank or aquire some large amount of money in a illegal way, is that money taxed? If I cause deadly injury to someone but they don't die until hours after the purge, can I still be charged with murder? The movies make it very clear, the Purge holiday is designed to turn the poor against the poor and allow the wealthy to maintain power. So it would make sense, in the world the movie if as created, that the day after Purge night would be to clean up the "stragglers." tax the new millionaires money, charge the person with kidnapping if he still has them one minute after. Throw him in jail if his victim survived the night, but dies later the next day. It's like a bonus. You get rid of a few extras. Plus you make sure people are more proficient while they purge.

Ah, but keep in mind that while the police and so on shut down, not everything else does. So you'd probably see national guard units stationed at the borders, the Coast Guard and Navy out on the seas, while the Air Force continues to protect the skies. And of course, you'd get militias out there legally gunning for anyone near the border that isn't one of them. Keep in mind it would also be legal for rival dealers to try and intercept your drug shipment, so there's that risk. And lastly, you'd still need to distribute those illegal goods throughout the course of the year. Overall, probably better off just smuggling it in any other day. After all, doesn't seem to be much of an issue getting drugs into the country currently.

Half of the reason I don't mind the ham handed political commentary of the purge because i'm not invested in the world, story, or characters. The other half is the beating of a dead horse. I hear so much of this on the news and the first 20 times I consider the point, take a quick look at the source when necessary, then adjust my stance, at 50-100 repetitions I ignore it as useless. I don't personally know anyone who complained about the number of females in star wars and it seems like a bit of a straw-man, straw-woman in this case? Love the show and I don't mind the political commentary in screen junkies as long as it's from the individuals not a top down company political stance.

Yeah. And generally speaking for SW, most people don't really mind races/genders. They mind crappy writing/characterization that's just there for a social agenda. The most diverse cast in a SW movie, Rogue One's, gets little commentary about it. It's also, despite still having some issues, the best of the new movies.

They should just do a purge movie across every genre. Like a romcom thing, but Purge is happening in the background. Or, and hear me out, a spy thriller where the whole Purge gov is up for grabs and they are trying to stop the spy(s) in question from revealing it, but also, everyone is shooting everyone all over the place because that's what happens...instead of carefully planned crimes that would possibly take years to get exactly right. Just roving bands of psychos in cars roaming the streets looking for randos to ax murder. Have the spy get axed a little and the Pizza guy get the secret info and then he has to use his delivery know how to survive while being hunted by the spy killers, and still delivering the pizzas in a half hour to not get killed by his customers. Also: Love interest tag along! Or something. Maybe they are just a pick up on the way. Or a spy looking to get the spy info! Double double cross!
