As nervous as I am excited. Shyamalan doesn’t seem to know why his movies are (or can be) good. Also, the premise of Unbreakable and Split _required_ the universe not be explained in too much detail. Glass won’t have that. It will be explaining the universe without this protective vagueness from the outset, and when Shyamalan does _detailed_ universe-building things tend to get very stupid very fast (cf. Lady in the Water, Happening, Wayward Pines, and so on).

I agree with Spencer. His mother would realize her child never got sick and question why. As part of a football team, he would lift weights with them; teenage boys like to see who can lift the most. His spotter would probably keep on adding weight and discover he had no upper limit by accident.
@Kris_AB6 жыл бұрын
Not all high schools had weight rooms when I was in high school from 1996 to 2000, so even LESS would have had them during the 60s or 70s when Bruce Willis' character was in high school (and in real life in the '60s & '70s). Also, going to the gym to get big (and/or to lose weight, I suppose) wasn't as widespread an activity amongst a greater number of dudes as it is nowadays (men weren't as into looking like the Hollywood ideal, their favourite athletes, or Greek gods, as they are nowadays because the pressure to look good was even moreso on women back then than it is now).

Watching it again recently in a world where twists like this are much more common, sure, the telegraphing is so obvious, but the movie still holds up imo, and beyond the nostalgia factor. Really looking forward to Glass, i have no idea what to expect.

The thing about David never noticing that he's never been hurt or sick makes complete sense in the context of the film's themes. A lot of us are completely unaware of our own potential until someone else points it out to us. It's not meant to make LITERAL sense. Also, Elijah and David have a very symbiotic hero-villain relationship. One could not exist without the other.

Thank you for this Honest Trailer (plus the Commentaries of course). This got me more excited for Glass (even though I have no idea what the hell that movie's gonna be about). For me, Unbreakable is amongst my favorite superhero movies of all-time. It kind of got a bad rep since it came out right after the Sixth Sense, which quickly generalizes M Night Shyamalan as the "twist ending guy". In spite of all the flaws the movie had that you showed in the trailer (which I had a blast laughing about), this movie remains a fresh sight for sore eyes to see in regards to the sameness of superhero movies these days. It's refreshing that there's a superhero movie that dares defy the idea that genre HAS to always be big, large-scale, a CGI fest, and opted to be more grounded and more realistic.

Considering that this is after the gun scene, Audrey asks David if they should cancel, and Joseph tells them to go, and that he just got a little messed up and that he was better now.

I hate myself for being an overexplainer (and the “well back when I was a high school football player), but... When David was in high school, they probably didn’t have a developed weight lifting program for athletes. Also, assuming he went to a high school in some Philly suburb, they probably weren’t super competitive and cut students from the team. So if he was a strong natural athlete and didn’t have injury issues his coaches most likely didn’t push him to really work on his strength or conditioning. Plus considering his mopey personality, I wouldn’t peg him as the type of jock who would be going to the weight room to show off to his bros how much weight he could stack on the bar.
@MegiddoTheImmaculate6 жыл бұрын
It seems odd to me that nobody would compare their biggest lifts. Granted, I only went to one high school so I don't know what it was like other places but at least here, it was pretty common for the players to push each other. No coaches needed.
@TheLanceUppercut6 жыл бұрын
@@MegiddoTheImmaculate They may have, but to the last point, David probably just didn't engage with it considering he's a mopey and disengaged sort of person. Maybe he just didn't give enough of a shit.
@parkay6 жыл бұрын
I went to moderately sized suburban high school in the 90s. The more competitive athletes who were more familiar with how to lift were in the gym almost every day and pushed each other when they lifted. Others were more likely to stick with conditioning and other types of exercises. During the season, our formal workouts were only on the practice field after school. As long as we performed in practice and on game night, the coaches didn’t say anything about getting to the gym.
@TheTitandog706 жыл бұрын
Well...he probably lifted just to do the workout. Never did anything beyond what coaches told him to do. So he never did anything to explore max lift

AKA The evil critics/media successfully turn the public/fans against M.Night, the hero and one truly unique and special human on the planet - with their manipulative lies thus unjustly destroying his life/career (post everything he did after 6th sense).

I must've missed that in Split (re-watched it last week after Unbreakable). I thought the only detail we knew for sure was that Kevin Crumb's father left him (probably due to the batshit, abusive mother, though shame he didn't take Kevin with him...maybe the mom had D.I.D. the same as Kevin) on a train. Not that the father died on a train. Did the movie say that ? Sure, flowers are left on the train platform in Split (which could be just as much about saying goodbye to Kevin's father and his old life as it is an offering to and welcoming of The Beast, which lives around the train tracks in Kevin's subconscious, according to what he [or Patricia and/or Dennis] told the therapist in Split).
