Salt tablets do not make a person sweat. They help prevent dehydration. Given the hot lights, the jumpsuits, and physicality of Elvis’ performances, he would have sweated naturally. Also, he did have health problems and was taking medication for them that can cause an increase in sweating. (I take 2 such medications.) But, hey, I’m only a nurse- what would I possibly know.

@@ElvisistheMan_ If Elvis took salt tablets as you read in a book, he was most likely taking them because he was sweating too much. Excessive sweating causes a loss of sodium. My boyfriend told me that when he was a Boy Scout in the 1970s the boys packed them as part of the camping kit. So, he could have taken them before he went on stage. Who knows. I read he took pills to help build a tan. I wonder if that was true. If I meet Elvis in heaven, I have so many questions.😂

Patty Parry, his friend cut his hair for the Aloha Special. If you recall, she is the girl he met when driving down the road (maybe Sunset Blvd. or Rodeo Dr.) with a friend in 1960 and he had them pull over to the side of the road. It was a plutonic relationship and she was his friend through the end. If you watch the '68 Comeback Special during the sit down portion of the show, she's the girl sitting on the stage in the white dress, with short sleeves trimmed in navy blue with a navy blue collar and has dark shoulder length hair. In an interview, she said that they told her to go sit near him because he was nervous. Loved the video!

Hi David! I preferred his hair in That’s The Way It Is”. Shaggy. I think it was Patty Perry who cut it in that style. In fact he was so upset with his haircut for Aloha that he called Patty to fly to Hawaii to fix it but she couldn’t make it on such short notice for the first show. She flew in with Marty Lacker and tried to fix it the best way she could for the final show. She said. Personally I think it looked too stiff on the one show they released, and out of date so I agree with you that the rehearsal “look “ was better and that was Patty’s. But then again, Elvis could wear an eggplant on his head and melt us all!😍😍😍 I did hear the salt tablets comment once from one of the bodyguards. Some of their comments I take with a grain of salt ( pardon the pun 😅). It’s hard to believe that’s true because Elvis suffered from glaucoma and high blood pressure since 1960’s. Salt tablets would have caused him a stroke if he took them more than once much worse if he had taken them for 1969 engagements. But I also heard he tried some tanning tablets to get very dark quickly for his Stay Away Joe Indian role and he liked the look so much he kept on doing that until 1972, on and off, but for health reasons he stopped them. Maybe the source mix the two (?)😂 ✌️

I don't believe about the story he took something to sweat more, sorry 😂 I think it's one of the many fake news you can find around..he didn't need it. Elvis' hair when he visited Nixon, 'Hampton Roads 72 , & messed up in '68 (stand-up portion) were great (Parker complained about his hair getting messed up on that stand-up portion.) Disliked the early-mid '60's & movie period very much --- way too "stiff" & not good off his face. His face & personality are more fitting for looser & messed up hair. His hair on his '69 Vegas concert was quite unusual -- styled very differently than at any other time -- look at some gorgeous color & b&w photos of how his hair is combed (neatly) coming forward toward his face. There are 2 more photos of him walking down stairs from 2 other concerts in '70, hair a mess, that was more fitting for him. He definitely needed more, somewhat "looser" hair than stiff, combed away.

I've never thought about it much but I reckon in some ways I like the 60s movies solid black helmet look. Because it's ridiculous. He's the doughy faced golden boy and I think the industry thought they had Elvis tamed. The public probably thinking along similar lines and the old Elvis wasn't coming back. Then BAM, 68 special. Hair down within minutes. I can't remember who said the quote but it was along the lines of Elvis looking like a tiger busting out its cage at long last. Like a wild animal. That's exactly how I see it and it's beautiful to see it happen. I know he wasn't all black helmet in all of the 60s but I just like the comparison/contrast.

Gotta say though... this taking salt pills to look cool (as tho Elvis needs to look cool)... has zero proof and is actually insulting to a man who can not defend himself in person. Anyone would sweat buckets in black leather and jumpsuits that weighed a ton... under hot lights... while cranking out the enormous non stop physical energy that Elvis did. Also, many girlfriends and some guy friends spoke about how freezing his bedroom was...that he even had the AC going in the winter. Also, I heard that his normal body temp was about 100 and not the usual 98.6. I tend to believe it because It now makes total sense as to why he kept his bedroom freezing cold all the time...even in winter. I encourage you to provide solid proof.. It is often seen that someone changes his/her hairstyle related to things going on in life. I like all Elvis' hairstyles. I divide them into the pure sexy rock and roll looks from the fifties with pompadour, romantic very styled look (most movies) /intense and sexy look (the messed up and wild hair e.g. 1969) and the modern more relaxed look (seventies). I can image that long hair falling and sticking in your eyes and face when you sing and dance can be quite a nuisance though. ;-)

@@ElvisistheMan_ I read he took them to to give that sweaty look, heard it was hard on the pump though. he took pills for pretty much everything else so why not this? 😏

@@ElvisistheMan_ - I've heard it before, but with what he wore, he didn't need any pills to make him sweat. There are lots of stories out there and not all of them are fact based.

Elvis’ best hairstyles: 1956-57 Sullivan Shows (2nd and 3rd), 1958 King Creole, 1960-63, 1964 Roustabout, 1968 CS, 1969-70 TTWII. Most of his hairstyles after TTWII are not great. His hair looked the worst on the Blue Hawaii album, and starting in 1971 when he got too long. 1976 is the worst with the huge burns and the bangs. Obviously his health had a lot to do with the perception of his hair. After TTWII he was never completely healthy again.

I think his hair looked great from 1955 to 1963. Then I’ll say pick back up again in 1968 1971. Then I believe it got too long at times and in summer 1974 and 75. It was good, perfect for the time. Other times they got too long or shaggy or Elvis’s weight made the look not work so well for him. Funny how we analyze the nitty-gritty lol

@@ElvisistheMan_ You have the only Elvis channel that consistently churns out content that makes me think, "I thought I was the only one who thought about that!" (even though I know better). As you know, the hair breakdown is even more intricate that we have time to analyze (1973 Aloha is different than the rest of '73 for example). The issue I have with the movies is that they constantly are grooming his hair. He'll get in a fight and his hair looks kinda cool because its a little messed up and then they do an obvious edit where they have immediately fixed his hair. Must've been a Colonel thing just like not wanting people to see Elvis sweat in the 68 CS. In many ways, the look of 1964-67 is the classic EP look to me with the pompadour and a strand of it hanging on his forehead. That was most of my exposure to Elvis visually from the time I was 8 until I was in my 20's (the internet). I was surprised to hear you say recently that you haven't seen many Elvis movies. I was actually shocked. You need to dive in. It's a fascinating part of his career. And you also have to realize that a huge percentage of his fan base that grew up in the 80s and 90's are Elvis fans because of the movies. I know they get trashed, and I get it. But they have played a major role in keeping his memory alive.

Just wanna defend you on the salt pills comment. Elvis sweated naturally folks but in 69 on his return to live performances its possible he considered it for extra effect or impact but he said he didn't wear leather because it made him sweat. It can feel very uncomfortable sweating heavy if he did take salt pills he would have dropped the salt pill pretty quick. Nothing wrong with discussion folks. No need to defend Elvis when he is not being attacked. Try taking on Elvis haters outside of fandom.

I doubt very much he took pills to make himself sweat. Those costumes he wore and the lights made him feel quite hot.

Firstly, I don’t believe he took sweat pills. Secondly, didn’t like the 70s hair or look at all.

I don't think it was a priority for him, especially knowing his problem with glaucoma and how sweating was not so good for his eyes. This was the reason he also used scarfs...just to help himself to dry sweat from his face. It would have been silly for him to take something to sweat more 🤷🏻♀️
