Thanks for this video I tried the suspension settings mentioned and since I am around same size I figured what the heck. It was a huge improvement I am so glad I was able to unlock some of the potential that was sitting inside of the bike.

Thank you Andy, our issue is that we do these things in our spare time mostly. We don't make anything from these, not a dime, they're extras for our readers, subscribers and anyone else interested. Used to be eight of us just making a magazine, now there are two full-time editorial staff (And Al part -time, plus the odd bit of freelance input) doing the magazine, facebook, Twitter, Web page stories, these videos, the lot. Thanks to those such as Jonny we've been able to keep doing them, but it's a struggle, so thank you for the praise!

Great videos, keep 'em coming! So far, #1 improvement was getting the suspension properly set up. Night and day difference and could feel the improvements just rolling out of the lot. Took the suggestion and just ordered the Brembo pads as well, the brakes are definitely the weakest part of the bike at the moment. I also had the same issue with crushing my fingers with the brake and clutch levers, some shorty levers fixed that quite nicely. It took 2 months to get replacement winglets over the tail light, everyone on the forums are complaining about them too.

Great vid. Entertaining to hear the other riders opinions, which seem to bolster the bikes image. Watching your man twiddling the suspension is the first time I have understood how to gauge adjustments. It looks cleverer than my arse's opinion. The MT10 is a really bad choice of bike for the roads where I live but, it makes up the 3rd member of the fast bikes bucket list I would like to ride for awhile. Aprilia Tuono, any of them and the GSX-R750 being the other two. Thanks, I learned a lot. More wheelies please.

If there are any other owners wondering if the suspension is worth changing just do it, it's bloody fantastic! I'm only 12 stone so quite a bit lighter than him, but these settings are still soooo much better than stock; he really isn't joking when he says it transforms the bike :D I've never played with suspension before, but I just followed the video and it only took like 45 mins. Keep up the good work guys (Y)

Had my suspension set up on Thursday just gone and couldn't agree more, feels totally different / better as soon as you ride it afterwards. So much of the weight distribution was bias to the rear of the bike at stock set up. Moving that forward and having it set to extend the forks a bit quicker after they were compressed has transformed the ride. No more drifting a bit wide on exits and it feels so much more planted when given a fistful out of a bend. Looking forward to the next Instalment. Ps- I fear your senior citizen may be right about that shredder. ! ;)

Really good to see this stuff, I've felt like the back end of mine is too low, it makes the bike feel weird as you enter a corner, almost as though it's being steered from the rear. I'll give these settings a try and see how it feels. Excellent series. Keep up the good work :-)

How close were the factory suspension settings in the manual to where you ended up? My '17 FJ09 manual gives settings for "minimum", "standard" and "hard", so you should have wound up somewhere near the "hard" settings.

Preloadrange in the front is 15,5 turns. 14 turns in is almost maxed out. A spring with so much tension on it isn't a good idea in my opinion.

Excellent blog lots of great info.. I have another question for you, I noticed in the video an original R1 I have a 99 R1, how does the Mt-10 compare to my 99 R1 engine wise cheers, keep up the good work
@fastbikes7 жыл бұрын
Actually think it's a 2000 R1now I look at it properly! The MT would match it to a certain degree, makes about the same power as an R1 from then, but the R1 would murder it higher up through having a lot more revs to play with.
@BorisKarloff667 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the reply. If I get an MT-10 I would have to do a fare few miles commute is the fuel economy as bad as folks say ie less than 100 miles to the tank, doesn't bother me too much just something else to think about. I think the MT-10 is something you buy with your heart not your head
@mmusic91942 жыл бұрын
Hi! Can you tell me what was your weight when you did this setup? I have friend with mt10, and he needs to tune in the suspension. Thanks man!
@pistolpete63217 жыл бұрын
That was really interesting, hard to believe they don't do a better job setting up the suspension at the factory. Thanks for doing this video!
@thetriplex93657 жыл бұрын
You can't do a better job, because motorcycle suspension is extremely sensitive to the rider's weight and style. What may not work for someone will work perfectly great for someone else. That's why it's adjustable.

I'm going to try a 200 rear next too As for the make you ride like a hooligan, Can also relate, i was riding up the m1 minding my own business, next thing some lads in a RS6 audi started egging me on, before i knew it i was doing 100+ mph wheelies. Also, just to be sure I've got the terminology right, 6 clicks OUT would mean that you go full right, then 6 clicks left? 6 clicks ON would be full left, then 6 clicks right? Or opposite? AH SUSPENSION!
@thetriplex93657 жыл бұрын
Check the manual and the adjusters. There should be a H S lettering there. The advice is always to start with the bike's standard setup and go from there. It'd be best to set preload up with a buddy helping you out. There are different ways to do that, Motorcyclist has a nice video on it.

Wonder how can he set up the suspension on the bike without the rider's weight and measurment without the rider on it?? Otherwise it's very informative
@fastbikes6 жыл бұрын
Because to ideally set to weight you may need to change the spring (s), without changing the spring, no problemo - plus, they've never had a single person come back and ask for a change, not one, in years, everyone has been happy with their setups, me included.

How does it compare to the brutale 1090rr?
@fastbikes7 жыл бұрын
Either the RR or the Corsa would outhandle the MT, with stock or adjusted suspension settings, engines are about the same speed but the MT is a better bike overall. Not a surprise though considering the Brutale is essentially a decade old. It's better looking than the MT mind you. New one on the way too!
