Going to be changing my rear disks and pads this weekend. Your channel was perfect for the fronts last year so I had to come back for the video on the rears. Yeah I know I called them discs and not rotors, blame the UK lingo 😂

If rotors are within bmw spec, is it necessary to replace the rotor when replacing pads?
@marckevinnn7 ай бұрын
340i with 2 piston rear and 4 piston front calipers. Just did this over the weekend and followed the ebc yellowstuff pad bedding process to mate with the also new zimmerman slotted/dimple rotors. is the air "woosh woosh" type clicking sound normal? hear it exceptionally driving next to cars or barriers with windows down. Also, when i brake firmly i get a hum/drone noise. and no my pads aint on backwards. done plenty brake jobs. its just my first time using these type of rotors.
@dannyb19793 ай бұрын
Yes & yes - use better pads than EBC Yellow though IMO; they're not the best
@colin56762 жыл бұрын
Thanks video helped a lot, beware the brake sensor not fitting into the new pads properly, and that’s facing with the nipple inwards. Also, good luck with the rear bolts of the caliper. Whoever owned it before me torqued that fucker to 9001 Newton meters, and there is not a lot of room to get around in there without taking off the entire suspension system.

Do we need to replace the caliper carrier bolts each time?

BMW advise to, they’re stretch bolts I believe which you definitely should replace.

Hi I’m doing a brembo m caliper swap for the rear of my 340i, do I have to replace my old pad wear sensor ? My current brake pads are still in good condition?

Anyone with the M Performance BBK have a constant ticking sound coming from all corners at all speeds? I had one kit that was noisy from the start and another which was quiet at the start and became noisy after I put some miles on it. Some say it's inevitable for the dimpled and slotted rotors. Are drilled rotors any quieter?

If I dont have a piston/pushing device, can I loose the brakes oil cap in the engine to release some pression?
@fcpeuro Жыл бұрын
Hi PRXY, that will not suffice. You may be able to do it by hand, but realistically you will need a clamping tool or piston tool to do this properly.

so is replacing rotors mandatory for brake changes ? i have a 2015 bmw 335i and need to change my rear brakes
@bdcash Жыл бұрын
So long as your rotors are still within specs and aren't damaged or have a big lip on the outer edge, you'll probably get two sets of pads to one rotor. Basically, you need to measure their thickness with a set of calipers. You'll need to track down the published minimum thicknesses. Obviously if they're not much thicker than the minimum then it would be prudent to change the rotors too.

Hi there! thanks for the great vid! i am used to servicing brakes except for cars equiped with electric parking brakes. I heard that we should always electrically disconnect the little electric actuators that brake the rear wheels via the obd2 socket. But you did not and you did not have to, as the parking brake is in the shoe brake (so good for bmw owners) On a audi A3 , 1997, the mechanism controled by hand (parking one) is not in the shoe but works on the same mechanism which is outside via a cable (audi cars A3 model ) SO I THOUGHT it would be the same for new one equiped with ELECTRICAL MECHANISM. Can you confirm me that we can work on ANY electric parking brake wheather the mechanism is in the shoe or outside wihtout any obd2 disconnection ? thanks. Farid.
