I have to tell you about my recent solo hiking trip in the wilderness. It was in the middle of bear country, and I had heard that music doesn’t scare bears away but human voices do. I immediately thought of you because I always turn to you when I’ve had a stressful day and need some decompressing. I downloaded a handful of your videos and created a “Bear Repellent” playlist. In my tent at night when I woke alone in complete darkness, I played your videos to stay calm. Thank you, Rowena, for your soothing, bear repellant voice!

rowena, you ALWAYS makes me think: gentle growth. i'm in love. i'd really watched your videos a lot a while back, and then in the last 2 semesters in college, just gotten so overwhelmed with what i was doing, and constant feelings of insecurity and comparison in the law field's endless rat race, which led to an extreme mega slump/burnout/slack-off period in november. and then i took a step back, rested in december guilt-free, READ a lot more like i'd wanted to and found myself re-aligned with my values and core feelings a lot more since i wasn't so superfixated on beating myself up about the constant hustle and lack of 'productivity'. at such a time, your vids and podcast somehow found their way back to me, and i couldn't be more grateful. i watched the reset series, esp this vid and the home cleaning one, got all choked up and really FELT everything you were saying. thank you. for these warm words, and this gentle guidance, that really embodies the purpose you'd set out for yourself and put at the top of your to-do list about helping your generation. cheering for you always! - a loving sweet potato named keerthana

That intro!!! What I like about your videos is you share ideas for change in a way that is for your own peaceful betterment and in your own time. So often betterment videos put this pressure on you that immediately put you in the comparison and guilt mindset. Keep in mind that even if you aren’t posting a ton of videos, the ones you have posted are extremely impactful.

Hey Rowena, I found your channel about two years ago after trying to find ways to better myself and I just wanted to say, I don’t really mess around w the self improvement side of KZbin too much but your videos truly hit different from that of others. I stopped watching your videos for like a yr and I’ve recently come back and it feels like seeing a good friend after a long while. Don’t mean to sound cheesy but you really do feel like a wiser older sister to me and I am grateful for you. Keep doing what you do and keep being your most authentic self💚.

I just rediscovered your channel after a long time, and wanted to say it's so wonderful to have seen you grow and change throughout the years, it gives me the motivation and courage to keep doing the same in my own life. I really appreciate how you have continued to share your insight on here as you move through the seasons of life, even if you don't have all the answers. Looking forward to continuing to iterate and improve in 2024!

Thank you so much for this video! I was laid off at the beginning of this year, and while I have since found other work, it's been a challenging shift and has led to a lot of self-doubt and purpose-specific anxiety. These are super important steps for anyone at a crossroads and feeling lost in their career/life. Love your inspiring content! 😊

Hello! Thank you for your videos, really centers me when I watch them. I'm currently in my final year pursuing piano performance at RCS, applying for masters at the moment too. Always been incredibly passionate about what I do and making music my career. However as I dive deeper into my journey prioritising my unconventional career, recently I've felt really dissatisfied and fer up of burning myself out for the sake of achieving a goal. I miss having the time to just exist and not constantly have a backlog of anxiety to go through mentally before I go to sleep. For me, my next steps is how I can give myself more grace, and keep making progress (as its never going to get less busy from here) but learn to separate my worth and downtime from my career. If anyone else is going through this and feels genuine dread at the thought of being burned out and less happy after a decade of dedication, please let me know.

Thank you for talking so open and honest and being a little quirky at the same time. It's really nice and motivating watching your videos. I'm still studying (in Denmark), so I'm not in my career, but still considering what I want to do. Before university I wanted to be this succesfull filmmaker. Life happens and I kind of had to accept that it is a really tough road and it's not for everyone. Now I'm studying some kind of communication and I feel really good about my path. As long I'm able to tell stories visually with my work I'm happy. As long as I can create something I'm happy. It doesn't need to be this huge blockbuster thing. Besides the uni-studies I have a student job and since the company is so small I have the responsibility for our videoproduction for our linkedin. No it's not cinema, but it's still visual storytelling and I get to have responsibility for filming, editing, talking about what to do in the video etc - een though I'm "only" a student work assistant. I'm really happy in my path at the moment. Maybe it's a cliché for filmmaker-dreamers to end up in a communication department but I feel good about it.

I used to work in HR (for a year after.university) and decided to take on a support worker role in a hospital and have been in this role for 4 months... I hate it. Tiring, doesn't pay well and I miss HR lol. I also feel like I don't fit in at work which dampers my mood and makes me feel deeply depressed however, because I moved into a healthcare role, I now realise what I want and i have bigger goals for.myself career wise.

I think meaning is always evolving. Right now it's just working through unprocessed emotions and being kinder to myself. When I'm at a better place in that regard, I then want to think about whether to pursue a possible non-9-to-5 corporate job and what it would be. I'm slowly learning to take my time in the time of transition, and let life work itself out to some degree.

There are so many great points here. When I'm feeling overwhelmed, I noticed how loud and hectic my mind was. Then I stopped for a moment and asked: Why is it so loud in my head? Who's voice specifically is the loudest? Why is that voice so loud? Who's voice is faint and saying more sensible reasons? Amazing... the human mind is truly amazing. You're amazing. I'm amazing. Everyone is amazing.

This series has come to me at the perfect time, I’ve really been going through it recently trying to figure out what I’m going to do next since my present situation for a means of living is making me feel financially insecure-to say the least… I’ve been asking myself this question for the past 6 years though, what am I gonna do next, what does your career look like? I see something, but it’s faintly there. Since finishing university I’ve never been able to grasp the concept of any single career that we typically see (ykto). I guess I didn’t have anyone around me to envision myself in those roles. I had service industry experience though, and that kept me alive and going. I got so comfortable that I’ve stuck here all through my studies, and now the rug is being yanked from my feet and I have no idea where to give my body a safe place to fall. Mentally, its rough for me to continue to put myself in those spaces. I want to be somewhere safe, to me. I do know that I’ve always seen myself curating a KZbin channel that encapsulates my favorite experiences and simultaneously brings joy to those who choose to tag along, I do know that I have a channel, and I do know what I think I’m capable of. The hardest part is starting? Well I’ve started already. It takes time? It’s been almost ten years. Will I stop though? No. My why? Future you will be so thankful to you, and present you will be so grateful to see what they sometimes miss because life goes too fast. in 2024, my “career” focus should come with the soft life I see & deserve. Shoutout to future me, you did it ! Oki, mini journal entry out into the void over-

Same sentiments. Different seasons call for different focuses, and that is fine. It's actually beautiful. I had to mourn my single days when I got married but it is by no means less, I actually gained more. I also look forward to family life. Looking back, the way I idolized my career above all else was actually harmful because it then created resentment if any kind change were to take its place. I am thankful of different seasons and transitions. We aren't meant to be the same.

What if your "boring" career path is actually a stepping stone, and not the opposite, of what you "really" want to do in life? Like it's actually preparing you through discipline, knowledge, and emotional maturity? Because that's the paradoxical situation I am in now.

I’m really focused on finding something I enjoy, something I get excited about, but have nothing at the moment. I feel reassured hearing someone talk about following your inner voice and finding something that best suits your ideal lifestyle. Definitely gonna keep that in mind as I move forward.
