Our founder, Chrissi, talks to three members of our online Network, all of whom lost their sense of smell after having Covid-19, about what happens when we start to feel a little 'stuck' on our recovery from smell loss.

Great webinar. Every aspect hit part of my experience. We think we are alone and different. This helps us to know we are not alone and not so different. Covid November 2020. Lost taste and smell. Started to partially come back late February 2021 and Parosmia hit mid April. Still hanging in there. I struggle with having to rely on others to tell me how things smell or is this bad. I used to have super good smell. Cooking was a huge part of my life.

Hi I’m so glad I found you guys. I have lived with ulcerative colitis for over 30 years. My diet was already very strict and limiting I developed Covid this year and I have not had my taste or smell back for over seven months. Just recently everything now taste like chemicals and smells like chemicals even water. It’s affecting me mentally very badly I’m really glad that I found this video thank you so much

Thank you. It sounds like you may have developed parosmia (which is usually a sign of recovery) - have a look on our website here: abscent.org/about-smell-loss/parosmia We also have lots of webinars on our KZbin channel regarding parosmia research and support while you have it.

It has been over a year I feel your pain. It makes you feel your brain won't work and zero appetite. It is horrific.

I lost my taste and smell Christmas day 2021 i can tell sweet and the other day i ate a little of a chilli which made my eyes water but not the taste. At the moment i have a weird smell in my nose like stale air (sort of). This is my first time of coming across your vlog and hearing these ladies tell their stories is helpful

I lost my taste and smell after a head injury from a fall over two years ago. I still suffer with post concussion syndrome today and the consequences of that injury, including loss of smell and taste. I’ve just started looking into smell/taste training after my occupational therapist suggested trying it. I also had a passion for food and cooking/baking but sadly no more, everything is just a bland nothingness. Here’s hoping for recovery!

Thank you Darlene. We are glad we can offer some support. In our online Network and in our Facebook groups we hear of many recovery stories. Key to smell training is consistency - if you haven't already, do watch our 'how to smell train' video on our channel. Take care.

Food has lost its excitement and wanting to actually eat anything other than what will keep me alive. I still crave certain things but am pretty sure I’ll never be able to taste or smell them again like before. It’s actually very sad.

This is the same for me - no fulfilment at all, and eating for that is not satisfying. I look like a 5 year old smelling everything I eat just to check. I rely on others to share how good the food is to try to experience it through them. Distortion and Phantosmia adds another layer to these difficulties. 15 months on I'm trying to decide how I can add fulfilment into other areas of my life, whilst sharing with those close to me that basing a get-together around a meal is quite difficult for me. Being honest and open about this has been difficult due to the reactions I have had but those closest to me are now trying to understand. You wrote your posting 4 months ago, so I wonder if you are sensing much the same or if there has been any change either way?

@@angelahoward2004 nothing has changed. I’m literally sitting in my doctors office right now about to ask her if there’s anything I can do to help with this. It sucks. Chocolate tastes like it’s been burnt. Anything with milk tastes like it’s gone sour. It’s been a year now. December 24th 2021 is when I lost my taste and I’d give anything to have it back.
