Wow. Steve Lukather on Jeff Beck's Strat - a nexus of legend, myth and magic, exquisitely crafted by the hands of a master musician.
@alanmiller22507 күн бұрын
Wow. I even heard a note that sounded like Prince. It was phenomenal how good that Strat sounded and how good Steve L. Played. That was unbelievable. A true emotion I was struck by the power of those notes. What a touching and great screaming lead trubute. Jeff's guitar and Steve = played like one.

Little Wing is a ‘Test Piece’ to see if guitarist’s can both capture the spirit of the original while simultaneously making it their own. No one, not even SRV, played it better than Jimi. For a 2 min 30 sec piece of guitar music it’s the most insurmountable mountain to climb. Lukather does a fantastic job of breathing power and passion into this classic.
@collinjamesguitar12 күн бұрын
Not so hot take: SRV’s was way more powerful than Jimi’s. Jimi’s was Starry Night. Stevie’s was the Sistine Chapel
@hecanseeme821011 күн бұрын
Yeah I don’t get this veneration of Jimi. He was innovative and a great showman, but he wasn’t even the best player of his time. Anyone who has picked up the instrument should be able to tell that SRV could play circles around Jimi. Personally I think Jimmy Page could as well. But it’s an opinion, it doesn’t mean anything. Your Sistine Chappell quip was apt.
@DesertScorpionKSA10 күн бұрын
I like Lukather's version of Little Wing. His fingering also looks easier than the original. I agree Jimi's version is the best and SRV's version is excellent.

@Splentaur9 күн бұрын
I love SRV and thought his version was superior when I was a child, then I played for many more years and learned to hear. "More notes" doesn't equal "better". Much of it was a wankfest that doesn't really play to the song. It's great and all, but not superior... just different. Much of what the original conveyed was lost in trying to prove how much wanking could be done, IMO.

Been said in other comments but honestly, unless one is really into music, they would casually say "wow, that old guy isn't half bad" not knowing that it's not hyperbole to say he's overall a top 10, or perhaps a top 5 guitarist. Sure, there are others that specialize in their genre, but when you can sit this guy down and say "give me this" and this can be anything, and he can play it at the highest level, that's just insane.

He should play Fender strats more often...I understand the appeal of EMG's but a strat with non-active pickups just sounds more amazing in his hands... As for playing Jeff Beck's strat I already saw Billy Gibbons playing the same strat so is it a tribute thing where every famous player gets to use it live and then passes it on to the next guy/girl ? Great rendition of a classic...and he's a great singer too...

A Jeff Beck Signature Stratocaster with reverse Headstock is a rare Instrument. And Jeff played that Strat that was build for him from time to time. Now some of the big Guitar Heroes of our time played that Strat as a Tribute to Jeff. But I don't understand why Steve played Little Wing in a Hendrix Version as a Tribute to Jeff. There are a lot of great tunes from Jeff , why a Hendrix Song thats rarely be played by Jeff ?
