Would you mind if I left a comment sharing our video of the aviary build? It would mean a lot to gain some views from a fellow bird lover ❤️ thanks! missy

Hi, thanks for this vid. Had a question re a prior vid which included mention of the Little Giant Digital Still Air Incubator. It looked like you were using this as a place where your chicks normally hang out - thus I presume you're using the Little Giant as a regular chick brooder also. Did you have to a cut an air hole or holes into the unit to allow for more air input, or did you have to add a fan to blow air into the unit? My own potential use of the Little Giant would be for Timneh Grey chicks. Thanks.
@Bird.Squawk3 жыл бұрын
I do use the little giant. However I find that at higher temperatures it's not as as accurate as I would like to be. When it gets to a little bit lower temperature say in the 80s or lower 80s it seems to hold its temp and do fine. It's been my experience that if I needed it to be 95° F it fluctuates too much. It has a built-in fan and I vent the top lids just a little to allow fresh air to come in and out. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching our videos.
@jonathanhigbee78493 жыл бұрын
@@Bird.Squawk Thanks very much for the reply. If you have a pre-made brooder which has more accurate temperature control please let me know (or if you're selling a few of your DIY ones ;-) please let me know also. After reading your advice I decided to hold off on the Little Giant for now (and reading the Amazon reviews for it). Thanks.

How do you diagnose sour crop or slow crop and how do you treat it? I think that is what is wrong with the tiny one and the information on KZbin I'm finding makes me nervous... Not sure they are doing it right... This baby I have is NOT developing, hasn't been... It was super weak when I took them from the parents and I got it to perk up, but I noticed it's crop does not go down nearly as fast as it's older siblings. After 3 hrs the full crop is about half way down. The bigger siblings have nearly completely emptied. I will make a video and link it if that will help. Sorry for being so annoying... Never had this many issues with parents/babies of other species lol.
@Bird.Squawk3 жыл бұрын
The first question I have is.... Does the crop go completely empty once a day? if not, yes you have an issue. if it does, it still may be developing slow crop. Temperature of the formula is extremely important. it must be in that 105degree range. If you feel that the baby is developing slow crop, my best advise is take it to a avian vet and get it started on a round of antibiotics. I've never had much luck at all with these home remedies. keep us posted
@prettybirdthepetgoosefrien81553 жыл бұрын
@@Bird.Squawk ok so since I removed it, it has gone from almost lethargic to VERY ACTIVE! I MADE SURE THE CROP IS COMPLETELY EMPTY and it appears to be digesting faster now that I'm hand feeding. I keep the temp at 105 For feedings. After letting the crop empty, and feeding properly and keeping them in the brooder, the crop appears to be emptying faster... Like, tiny is really improving. I recorded a video to show it's current condition. I will be uploading today if you want to see the little one. It's DEFINITELY behind. I haven't been able to find any avian vets around me. I'm in N TX and we are new here. But I'm searching. Since he's improving, I'm hoping he will continue to get better and it was just the parents messing up and I got to him in time ...

@@Bird.Squawk just to make it clear, I thought it was just a little slower and the parents just were not feeding it as well ... But they almost NEVER sat on them and I realized that the baby was falling behind. It's over 2 weeks and is the size of a maybe 8 day old? But the eyes opened and it's active and screaming for food as of 20 min ago. Is it a good idea to let the crop empty twice a day for a couple days to make sure the digestive system cleans itself out? Resets itself? Or is that a stupid thought? I REALLY hope I'm not bothering you!

Not sure the exact size... but I think its smaller than 28qt. But you can do any size... you may have to increase the size of your heat source, or double them. If wired together they will come on at the same time. I've been using this new one for a few months now, and it works really well.
