Finally an accurate depiction of Henry in all his ruthlessness that doesn't romanticize him.
@mnomadvfx24 күн бұрын
No, it's just romanticizing someone else instead to make the story more interesting. It's the same thing with any historical Hollywood fare, they pump up the protagonist by cutting everyone else off at the knees, regardless of whether they deserve it or not. The black female NASA computer staff historical film Hidden Figures is a classic example - woefully inaccurate even to the autobiographical novel the film is based on, let alone the overall historical accounts of NASA and IBM which are both defamed up the wazoo to make the 3 protagonists look more interesting and underdog like.

A lot of historians say he was an awkward, insecure man who lacked presence, which he overcompensated for through image management (see the famous Holbein painting). I think the reason he is such a focal point for British historians is that he is the historical figure that is seen as ushering in the early modern period.

Alicia Vikander is one of the rare actresses who can make you feel every emotion with just a single look. When watching The Danish Girl you felt sadness and sometimes even joy from her. With Ex Machina you felt fear of what she might do next. Even with Tomb Raider, you felt her adrenaline which led to excitement. In Tulip Fever you questioned her every move and motive but somehow still wanted her to win..and on and on. Firebrand may just put her on that Oscar stage yet again!

Frankly, I’m amazed there haven’t been more films about Katherin Parr. For me, she remains a figure of constant fascination. On one hand, she is the wife who survived and nearly swayed the king into reforming the church of England. And helped shape Elizabeth. On the other hand, she is the stepmother who betrayed the princess who she loved as a daughter for a man who by today’s standards would be regarded as a pedophile (though honestly that’s what he should’ve been considered even for his time).

Catherine was betrayed by her husband Thomas Seymour when he started hitting on the teenaged Elizabeth Tudor. Catherine found them embracing and had Elizabeth banished from Sudeley Castle. 🤔

That has always seemed so confusing - she was, by all accounts, a smart woman, how could she not see that at least something was off about Thomas Seymour?
@patriciahayes266426 күн бұрын
@@renata8979 Catherine Parr and Thomas Seymour had planned to be married, but Henry VIII wanted to marry her himself and nobody said no to Henry in that regard. So after Henry died, Thomas and Catherine were free to wed. Thomas was one of the most charming scoundrels around and Catherine was a very human woman. It's more than likely that he fooled her into thinking that his early morning visits to Elizabeth's bedroom was all in good fun until a heavily pregnant Catherine later caught them together in an embrace. She then had Elizabeth removed from Sudeley Castle, where they were living at the time, and sent to live with Sir Anthony Denny at Cheshunt in Hertfordshire. Catherine and Elizabeth never saw each other again.🤔

This movie, despite the amazing actors, seems to be one of those that is basically full-on fantasy disguised as a "true story" (basically Im tired of the Braveheart approach.. History is usually amazing by itself and so much better and interesting than what scriptwriters tend to completely invent and "fetichise" about).
