He raps of challenges he struggles with. Very intense lifestyles. Real.

DMX .. Bring Your Whole Crew

First DMX song I've ever listened to. I do like some rap, but I'm typically not a real big fane. DMX's lyrics sound very sincere, personal, and intense. Great beat, and the music is nice but almost haunting. This one really brought out the emotions, which most rap does not do for me. Thanks Daniel.

I would recommend avoiding other recommendations people are providing. Songs like Party Up, Ruff Ryders Anthem, etc don’t represent DMX as an artists at all. Those are just hits but the bulk of his music isn’t that. A song like Ready to Meet Him, Look Thru My eyes, Let Me Fly, The Rain, Lord Give me a Sign, I miss you, just to name a few are a direct and better reflection of DMX as an artist and give you a better understanding. I’m so glad your first introduction was Slippin. That’s who DMX really is, not party up. Any true DMX fan would tell you this and agree. As far as song selection, like I noted previously, I would say Ready to Meet him is the best option as your next song. Shows how DMX was able to use his pain and struggle to connect to a higher power, a higher calling. More powerful song than Slippin in my opinion. Although the song as you can probably tell by now has to do with God, but not in a bland, repetitive, or a very baseline manner. No, this will probably be the rawest song about God you have ever heard, and I’ve seen atheist react to this and even they can feel the song and it’s vulnerability. Highly recommend. If you however don’t want to listen to a song about God, then I would recommend Look Thru My Eyes.

Never heard this one. I always wonder if numbers like this solely reflect personal experience, or include experiences the artist knows of. This is emotionally very powerful. Would never have heard except for my man DS9.

DMX is the only rapper I have found (other than Tupac) that can encapsulate depression and helplessness in a song, but then turn it around and make it hopeful.

If you want to hear what I believe to be DMX’s most powerful song, I strongly recommend you listening to DMX - Read to Meet Him. Especially now after his passing.

Hey Daniel, I love your vids, I would like you to listen to a song called Suicide by Suzi Quatro. I think you will like it as I do
@Katehowe30102 жыл бұрын
Suzi Quatro? The 70's catsuit clad 5ft nothing of a chick, who could barely hold her bass? Nothing against her, or her music, but for some reason i find it a strange suggestion!
@jeffmills58272 жыл бұрын
@@Katehowe3010 well I chose this one because Daniel has an appreciation for older music that tells a story and he likes a lot of the same old stuff that I like, including the not so popular ones, so I figured this would fit right in

This stuff is so far removed from the golden age of rap, which would have been late 80s to mid 90s! Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, and the whole Native Tongue roster of bands had humour, some of the greatest samples, and just exuded a mellow and peaceful vibe. Today, it's ego driven, boss man, me first doesn't cut the mustard with me, and yet it remains an extremely popular medium. I guess some things just can't be explained!

I agree he wasn't in the first wave of old school rappers, but he started in the early 90s and got huge by the late 90s, that's more than 20 years removed from the current rap styles. He is definitely categorized as being influenced by those classic rappers like NWA etc..He's looked up to by a lot of the community as an OG. I agree that rap today is not in its best era, to say the least. And Public Enemy was definitely not peaceful and mellow, but definitely from the Golden Era.
