Definitely watch the video when you get a chance. This was disco Kiss, they received a lot of blow back for this song (i personnally love it). I remember when they came into town on tour after this song and they had people picketing outside the entrance to the stadium with 'no disco' signs. Paul Stanley sings most songs, but all band members sing lead on many songs.

“Starchild” Paul Stanley’s falsetto on this was pinnacle. He was final Phantom of the Opera at the 10 year run of the show at the Toronto Pantages Theatre. Gene Simmons (demon tongue) is bassist and band’s other main singer and main co-founder. It is rumored that he didn’t play the bass for the studio version of this though as Paul (who wrote the song with Vinnie Poncia) was too picky and played it himself. Ace Frehley played lead guitar on this but the drums were played by studio session drummer Anton Fig. Peter Criss, the band’s original drummer, was very unhappy and heavily on alcohol and drugs by this point in the band’s history. He officially left the band soon after the record that this song was on (Dynasty).
@s.mcpherson63542 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I didn't know Paul did bass on this. It's not that uncommon for players to be replaced for albums due to okay live skills, but in the studio they'll often have people like Fig (who also was Letterman's drummer for a long time), who can really nail time. The best case of that is The Wrecking Crew, but that practice is used whenever it's deemed necessary by the producer. That's what made Toto interesting. Most of those players were background guys from other albums. I remember Letterman's bass player, Will Lee, said drugs lost him a whole decade of memory where he was on countless huge albums and he'll often hear them in elevators and think, "Man, that bass player is good," and then someone will tell him it's him. :-D

Paul Stanley did most of the lead singing. Gene Simmons did a lot of singing also, but was mostly bass guitarist while Paul Stanley did lead vocals. And, ironically, the drummer Peter Criss sang one of the most beautiful songs "Beth"...beautiful violins in the background...Yes, it`s a KISS song. About missing his wife while they are always out on the road away from home. Don`t wait a year or two to check it out. Interesting time for KISS. This was when their teenage and young adult audience from the past started growing out of the band and when kids gravitated towards them. You'll here people who were kids in 1979 talk glowingly about this song, album, and tour because it was their first experience with KISS. Then you'll hear from the old heads who say this is when they started to "sell out" and became "bubblegum pop". For me I was barely born when this came out so I don't have that POV, so I see it as a good song that I enjoy. Sidenote: Paul Stanley wrote this song after being in Studio 54 and hearing disco being played and seeing the reaction of the club goers. He figured he could easily write a disco song so he did.

As a die hard KISS Army Fan let me help you both know who’s who in this band at this time in 1979. Who sang this song is Paul Stanley, The Starchild, The Ring Master, who sings and plays rhythm guitar and has a falsetto voice you hear on this song. Gene Simmons who had a reality tv show, Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels, is known as The Demon who sings and plays bass guitar. The lead guitarist is Ace Frehley, also known as The Space Man or Space Ace. The drummer shown on the front cover and the video for this song but didn’t play in the album except for one song that he sang on is Peter Criss, The Cat Man, who was later replaced by another drummer, Eric Carr who became The Fox. On this album, the drummer you hear is a session drummer by the name of Anton Fig who later became Ace’s drummer when he left KISS to go solo and started Frehley’s Comet. I know, a lot of information there but that’s what happened. Hope you listen to more KISS and will be looking forward to seeing your next reaction. Peace!!

This was a different direction from the crazy rock and roll music KISS is known for (obviously influenced by the disco craze of the mid / late 70s). During an 80's interview, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons bragged about how many groupies they had "had", and also for having 1000s of polaroid pictures (google if you don't know what that is) of them.
@sumonjamal16532 жыл бұрын
Interesting place to start w/ Kiss. This was a disco single in 1979 that became a huge international hit... but Kiss had already established themselves as a hard rock band in 1975, so this change was not welcomed by their hardcore fan base. So although the record sold millions, Kiss found their concerts underselling in '79 in N. America, and kids (w/ their moms) were showing up at their shows (likely due to the marketing & merchandising of Kiss products) ... It was the end of the original line-up as well; original drummer Peter Criss was out of Kiss in 1980, and lead guitarist Ace Frehley quit in 1982. By 1983, desperate for a fresh start after low album and concert sales, Kiss opted to take off the makeup that year and relaunch Kiss as an 80's rock band... and they found platinum success again right away. Paul Stanley (vocals & guitar) sang 'I was made for loving you'... and he sang most of Kiss' biggest hits ('Detroit rock city' ... 'Forever' ... 'Lick it up' ... 'Love gun') ... Gene Simmons (vocals & bass) and Stanley r the two primary Kiss members... Simmons sang hits like 'Rock and roll all nite' ... 'Unholy' ... 'Calling Dr. Love' ... 'I love it loud' .... 'War machine' (His voice was gruffer than Stanley's) In the original Kiss, drummer Peter Criss did vocals for a few songs, including the ballad 'Beth' (their biggest hit) and songs like 'Black diamond'... 'Hard luck woman' ... "Dirty livin' " Lead guitarist Ace Frehley wrote a few Kiss songs, but sang lead on these Kiss songs - 'Shock me' ... '2000 man' (Rolling Stones cover) ... 'Talk to me'... 'Rocket ride'... When Ace Frehley went solo, he did vocals on his solo records.

I Was Made for Lovin' You came out in 1979 is NOT a typical KISS song. They were trying to tap into the disco vibe of the 1970s. KISS themselves were surprised it turned out to be such a big hit. In an interview Gene Simmons revealed he has always hated performing this song as he doesn't like the do do do do do do do do do vocal part, but he does it anyway to give the fans what they want. All other KISS songs are more rock including a couple of great rock ballads (Beth and Hard Luck Woman). Rock n Roll All Night is probably the song they are best known for and is a major rock anthem.
