I wonder how many millions of babies were made to this song. One of the most beautiful love ballads ever recorded by an incredible vocalist who, herself, was pretty easy on the eyes. Released late '71, early '72. A huge number 1 song on the R&B, adult contemporary, and pop charts. A true "crossover" hit. I was a top 40 radio disc jockey back when this was out. You have to remember this was long before digital audio, so there was no such thing as compact discs or .mp3. Everything was on vinyl. And this song was recorded at such a low level, every pressing of the record was full of surface noise and scratches. It wasn't until the song was re-mastered for release on CD in the late '80s/early '90s that anybody ever heard it without all the noise. What a gorgeous recording. Check out her follow-up recording, "Killing Me Softly." Another timeless classic.

The lyrics, too. This song is so powerful and her voice.... Loved it then, love it now.

When you listen carefully, the rhythms are of a heart beat, and that beautiful voice floating and swooping over it like an eagle... Magnificent.

So romantic ❤️. Killing Me Softly is fabulous too.

The words are as powerful as the softness in her voice. Beautiful!

Wow. First time hearing this song... What a beautiful love song, sung by such an amazing talent. You can feel the loving, melancholy longing. Not the most relatable song for a couple of young guys. You'll need to come back to this one in a few years, especially if you ever find "the one".

Clint Eastwood who acted and directed that film insisted that song be the theme song--even though film studio had to dish out a lot of $$ for the rights.

Play Misty for Me...I loved that movie. Filmed in Carmel and this song was perfect. Spent so much time in Carmel. Watching that movie in the theater with my mom. Roberta Flack wonderful.

My mother gifted me with her music when I was 13 years old. 8 track tape and I listened to it over and over. Lloyd stereo with humongous head phones. I never get tired of hearing Miss Roberta Flack❤️💎

You need to hear "killing me softly" by Roberta Flack

This song came out in the early to mid 70s, I vaguely recall it as a child, but heard it through life, and in my 30s, and in a relationship, the depth of it really hit. I hope in years to come you both have someone like this song describes too. Her voice is like no other in purity and the lyrics are so simply stated, it's powerfully stunning. You can literally hear the longing in her voice hitting the high notes. Great music is forever.

You put it beautifully. Unfortunately, I truly feel they didn't get that because they constantly talked over the song instead of listening to her gorgeous tone and the longing in her voice. They didn't even get that this is a love song! They blew it on this one.

They played this at the end of an episode of Mad Men. It kills you.

The song is from 1957, and many people covered it before Flack did this amazing cover. I particularly like the Gordon Lightfoot cover (it's on KZbin).

This song is perfect to demonstrate the classic beauty of Roberta Flack's voice. She is in a class of her own. Her voice gently reaches in and grabs you. I cannot listen to it without tears in my eyes and an ache in my heart at the sheer beauty she creates here. Thanks for doing this one guys!
