Before T-Pain and Future there was Roger Troutman. This man has influenced a ton of great music over the past few decades. The undisputed master of the Talk Box.
@youaintasbadasyouthink3 жыл бұрын
He's an absolute legend but let me make the distinction that Future & T Pain don't use Talkboxes, it's Autotune made famous by Cher of all people haha. Computer Love is my all time fave, man I wish I could have seen Roger play live. Side note, I bought a talkbox a few months ago and honestly it's the hardest thing to make sound good in terms of hearing the words and not just the tones. Roger is truly the master.

Computer Love by Zapp/Roger. The voice box hooked to a keyboard is how they create the sound. You sing by playing the notes and kind of going through the motion of singing but not really making any noise (the keyboard supplies that). You have to use a little bit on consonants. Peter Frampton used a voice box and guitar, most notably on his song "Do You Feel Like We Do" if you want to check out a rocker doing it, slightly before Zapp and Roger.

Took a picture with him and my best friend after his concert in San Diego in 1986. He was a cool cat, loved his music, and he was incredibly down to Earth. Came out after the concert to stand, talk, sign autographs and take pictures. I paid $20 bucks for that pic with him, which was quite a lot of money in 1986. His songs were everywhere. Tupac used him on an album. Computer Love was his greatest hit, or I Heard it Through the Grapevine. I was in shock when I heard when and how he was murdered. Very untimely death. By 1995 he was considered an Ol' G. LOL That voice box had him sick a lot from bronchitis types of diseases. Not a lot of people used that machine.

Such a classic R&B song! I still play this today! It’s a talk box, not auto tune. I can’t fully explain the difference but their definitely is one.
