David Gilmour is the guitarist from pink flloyd. This song "comfortably numb" is from "The Wall" album. It is a concept album that tells the story about a fictional rock star named Pink who has built a wall around himself to isolate himself from human emotions. In this song Pink has become physically and emotionally ill before a concert. The doctor comes in and gives him a shot which makes Pink become comfortably numb so he can go onstage for the show. It's a double meaning. Comfortably numb for the show as a metaphor for how Pink has become comfortably numb to all human emotion. The absolute best version of this song is from the pulse concert. It will totally blow you away; even after you've seen the version you just watched. " COMFORTABLY NUMB PULSE CONCERT" will bring it up on you tube.

And I can add: "The Wall" (and Comfortably Numb) is from 1979 ... so it's really from the older stuff... I find this version the best: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGeqcoNte6aAjrc Not necessarily because of the music or the vocals - but because what belongs together comes together here. On this song in particular, Waters' and Gilmour's voices complement each other perfectly. Unfortunately, Waters was (and still is) on an egocentric trip - when I think of what good music the two of them could have created together with Mason and Wright (R.I.P.)....

I don't think it's so much about his guitar playing as the whole package, his writing skills/compositions, the atmosphere, the Pink Floyd stage sets, the synergy between the friends having played together for decades, their individual contributions to the music, it all comes together at the Pulse concert. Worth watching from start to finish.

Of those songs you posted, Echoes, One Of These Days, and Mademoiselle Nobs (Seamus), are the only ones from Meddle that they played. I'm just clarifying for the reactor that Careful, A Saucerful, and Set the Controls was music not released on the album Meddle. Set the Controls and A Saucerful came out on A Saucerful Of Secrets in 1968, Careful With That Axe Eugen was a non-album single released in 1968. Meddle was released in 1971.

Every version of Comfortably Numb has its high points - you cant go wrong with any of them...The Pulse version is a tick higher in my book just for the wailing bit done by Dave which isnt done on the live versions afterwards...but the fact this version was done in Pompeii and has many good hooks as well and is in High Def (not video like Pulse was recorded in) gives this version a good boost......

Comfortably Numb is from Pink Floyds 11th album "The Wall", released in 1979. Pink Floyd is one the greatest bands of all time. The performance you watched was awesome, but 1994's PULSE tour performance is absolutely amazing. This band has been releasing music since 1967 (The Piper at the Gates Of Dawn), with their final album dropping in 2015. David Gilmour is one of Eddie Van Halen's inspirations. I remember in one of Eddie's rare interviews back in the day (I think it was Guitar Player magazine) while he was sitting with the interviewer and talking about influences Eddie mentioned Gilmour and said he loved his playing that "it's so tasty". Dressed in an old black T shirt, jeans, scruffy beard and looks like some regular Joe... he plugs his guitar into his soul, and takes you away on a journey that you will never forget. Watch the Pulse 1994 version - the crowd is still, in total awe, locked as one while their souls fly away until he brings them home, many with tears on their face. This song has meant a lot to me since I first heard it in 1977 when The Wall came out. It is one of the few things that came bring me back from the pits of despair and give me hope, to keep on living when all I have wanted to do is give up. I am 58 years old and my kids love this song to. There are a lot of people who acknowledge that this song has saved them - and I am one of them.

well... Although Waters is no longer part of the band it is an undeniable fact that he is the writer behind their biggest sucesses as a whole... Especially when you mention the wall I feel like clarifying that Roger Waters wrote and composed that entire album... It was actually one of the reasons why they ended up splitting up; Because Waters was doing his own thing and kinda blackmailed the band into doing his will... Before they recorded the wall album Waters had shown up to a band meeting with two fully written albums; The Wall and The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking. He asked the band witch they wanted to do as Pink Floyd because he would then record the other as a solo project. Thats when the others started feeling like being a band for hire who didn't get any artistic influence any longer. Pink floyd has 4 general eras in their past: The first years and albums were experimentally playfull pop fuelled by Syd Barrets madcap mind and lyrics. The second was the psychedelic experimental phase where all the banndmembers basicly improvised their way through sound and space.... Third period was Roger Waters evolution as a concept album writer and political artist. The third and last period was the one where Gilmour took over as witer, in close collab with Wright and Mason had their older, softer and more philosophical period...

And yes. you are right: I found it weird talking about gilmores writing when also, in same sentence, using The Wall as example of their music... You were the one who mentionned ppl getting things wrong. So don't get uptight when I point out that you got something wrong. -Or atleast worded it very poorly... I am not a Waters Stan. I like most of pink floyds music from start to present. In fact I idolize very few individuals as we all are flawed humans to some degreee. I actually spent some years as a teen being pissed at Waters because I felt like his arrogant artistic sellfabsorption is what drove the group to split... @@JokerInk-CustomBuilds Gilmour does write the music, Waters writes the lyrics and I said Gilmour wrote most the music, I didn’t say all the music and I didn’t say he wrote the songs, I didn’t say he wrote all the songs, I didn’t say he wrote none of the songs, I didn’t say he didn’t write any of the music, so no, I didn’t say anything that wasn’t true and if you misunderstood what I said, that’s your problem, what I wrote was not rocket science, I am sure most people can understand it, don’t project your inability onto others, but I guess that’s what happens when Stans get triggered because you don’t bang on about their obsession in a comment section of a video that has nothing to do with their obsession, they have to try and find a way to divert the conversation to be about them. What is it with the Roger Waters Stans that they get so triggered over David Gilmour or anything Pink Floyd without Roger Waters in it, get over it already, he left Pink Floyd nearly 40 years ago now, move on, seriously, it’s pathetic, if that’s who you choose to Stan over, good for you but go do it in the comments section of video about him or start your own comment thread about him, I ain’t here to talk about him, I was talking about David Gilmour, that is what BP asked, he asked about David Gilmour

Agreed. The better live version in the 1994 Pulse concert. If you want to see early Pink Floyd watch "Echos" from the Live at Pompeii 1972 show. There are a lot of people who have issues with Roger Waters, but I think he was a very important member of Pink Floyd. Here you would get to see Waters on bass. You should check it out for sure. Love your channel man and I'm also a Colorado boy....Keep crushing!

Thanks for reacting to one of my favorite artists! I was fortunate to see David Gilmour on this tour when it came through Chicago in 2016. I had only become a fan of Pink Floyd the year before, and he was my favorite (I love guitar players!), so I was thrilled when I found out he was touring his solo album from 2015 (Rattle That Lock). Of course, he played a lot of Pink Floyd classics (like 'Comfortably Numb'), as well. Light shows were also a big part of Pink Floyd's stage show, which David Gilmour carried over into his solo tours. He was 70 years old in 2016, so he still sounded amazing! David Gilmour is known for his emotional, soulful solos. He isn't flashy. His haunting vocals are also a big part of the Pink Floyd sound. David joined Pink Floyd in 1968. After the band's lyricist and bass player, Roger Waters, left the band in 1985, David Gilmour became the leader of Pink Floyd for the rest of the 1980s and beyond. Probably the best Pink Floyd concert video is from 1994; it's called Pulse. I suggest reacting to the song 'Sorrow' from the Pulse concert. In the Pulse shows, there are also two other original members of Pink Floyd: Drummer Nick Mason and keyboard player Richard Wright. Sadly, Richard Wright died in 2008, but he performed keyboards in David Gilmour's solo shows in the early-to-mid 2000s, which I thought was cool.

And you also need to watch the Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb from the PULSE live concert to feel Daves magical extended guitar solo.... Those versions are the ones who are magical moments in history. -Sure the artists are always great, but we wanted you to see the most magical moments done by them! :) -That said, keep rockin!! I am aware we subs all got different memories we would like you to see specifically and you are only one man! LOL

Worst part is that this isn't even close to the best version he has of this guitar solo, You should check out the Pulse Concert where he plays with the rest of Pink FLoyd. Considered one of the best guitars solos ever. So i'm a bit sad you didn't hear the Pulse Version of this:) But you can show it to Don :D (Gilmours guitar is a very different vibe than other guitarists, more of a feel than a "look what i can do" type :D)

What makes David Gilmour so good is the melodic and tonal quality of his guitar playing, not the gymnastics. If you want your mind blown by fretboard gymnastics, check out this 15-year-old girl, Tina S. Dragon Force has two guitarists; Tina does it all by herself. At times her fingers are a blur. Pegasus, you'll flip when you hear the story being told in this song in The Wall. The singer ("Pink") is near comatose before a show, so they bring in a doctor ("Just a little pinprick. There'll be no more AAAAHHH... but you may feel a little sick.") to get him up and performing for the show.
