Dimash was a guest at this professional competition and he was the youngest ever to compete. At the end of this performance, you could have heard a pin drop even with the 500 judges there. They were all blown away. This was The song that launched Dimash into global stardom. After this performance, ( which continued for months) Dimash came out of his hotel room the next morning, he got surrounded by 18 police/security officers. Dimash was a bit stunned wondering what he could have possibly done, but then they told him why they were there. " You can no longer walk freely unescorted in China anymore. He had become an overnight sensation (sort of similar to the Beatles) and the mobs of fans (which he refers to as Dears, because we are so Dear to him), were all flocking to get close to this new sensation. He had gotten over 90 million new fans overnight. In this competition, only the Chinese could win first place, so Dimash came in second place, but all of China knew Dimash was the one and only winner of that competition. This was years ago, and Dimash gets better every day. He trains his voice 3 hours a day minimum and swims as often as he can underwater to increase his lung capacity. He has been in vocal training since he was 5 years old. There is absolutely no one in the world ever, that can get close to his level . I love it! This song is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight in 2017 (The Singer). The song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' (1978) and is known in the English-speaking world as Tycoon (1995). Music: Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon (French original text). The English adaptation is by Tim Rice. That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). This was a singing contest very different from AGT or The Voice. All contestants are selected from award-winning established singers and invited. That’s the people sitting backstage. There are no judges, but each of the 500 people in the audience have three votes. Dimash was invited as a wild card since he was almost totally unknown in China in 2017, except to some in the Kazakh community. After this clip was aired, his followers on Weibo literally catapulted from a thousand to 2.4 million in 24 hours. When he decided to go tour the town, the tv station sent a bodyguard along with a cameraman. Dimash was surprised, “Why? I’m a Kazakh!” Meaning, I’m a tough guy. Well, to his great surprise, he was immediately recognized and mobbed for photos and autographs. The rest is history. You could follow his rise to world fame step by step or skip around and watch his most famous songs. Or you can jump to his latest release: a mood video he just released two days ago, on his 29th birthday, entitled Omir (Life), about his life story. 😅Dimash is special. These notes weren’t his highest or lowest. Try Stranger from New Wave 2021. It’s in English. And epic! He sings in 15 languages, so far. Speaks Kazakh and Russian fluently. Is getting pretty good in English now, and has sone phrases in mandarin. SOS is the song that introduced Dimash to the world and opened many great opportunities and collaborations for him. There are a number of versions of Dimash singing this song, each different but all great. The song SOS comes from the famous 1978 Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania', which is well known in French-speaking countries, and is a pretty difficult song to sing. In 2017 Dimash received a wild card for the competition “The Singer” in China. He was the youngest participant ever at 22 years old and the first non-Chinese. Only professional, award-winning singers take part in this competition. Although well-known and respected in his homeland Kazakhstan, few in China knew or heard about Dimash before, but with his first song, SOS, Dimash shocked the audience and captured the hearts of over 600 million of viewers overnight, and the rest is history as the saying goes.
