Hey Tom , on the mic pack there should be a sensitivity option which will be in like negative EG: -10 DB , try setting it to a less sensitive setting EG -15DB and that should help a bit ! Great content as always !

Depending on the mic and if it's the one I think you're using they have individual volume controls or gain controls at the individual packs so you could theoretically turn one down but it's a balancing act. That will also help with the Distortion with high-level signals coming into them for momentary transients.

With the mic packs you could have one on the left channel and one on the right and then it would give you the option to change levels in post, obviously you would have to combine the stereo track into mono then.

True, and you can't have the basic insulation exposed which is very common with the pyro installs I've seen! And there's never enough space to make it right. 16mm tails buried in the wall is a bit iffy though! SWA, galv trunking, or galv conduit would have been my solutions.

In case you read the comments.. multiplying by 1.67 for a 2.5mm ring is the same as multiplying by the difference in conductor sizes (2.5/1.5), so you could do it for different sized rings if you knew the conductor size for each wire.

Interesting about the boiler bit. I've just had a new one fitted, in a new location at home. I'm not a spark but am an engineer (aeronautical). They didn't bond any of the pipes at the boiler, at all. From what I understand it isn't needed either, but it's not an issue having it as supplimentary bonding. I do have bonding on the gas and water where it comes into the building though, but nothing at the boiler. Thoughts on this?
@ursusmaritimus7159
@ursusmaritimus7159 4 жыл бұрын
Assuming your install in RCD protected, I'd say it is not required. Even if it is, the metal of the boiler will effectively bond these pipes together. It's an interesting topic when we consider plastic pipe in the house. Say a bathroom towel rail is supplied by a section of plastic. Should it be bonded or not?

Why did you change the central heating from plugs/socket to a fused spur? I had to "dissuade" the electrician/plumber re-wiring my home from doing the exact same thing. My reason? When power fails and I am running a generator, I can simply transfer the c/h to the genny with (in my case) one plug.

What don’t understand, non sparks, if you need 25mm tails, why is the incoming feed from the road not 50mm if it then is split into two?I have a feed of 6mm from the pole but the sparks fitted 10mm from the meter to the fuse box because it was necessary. Why is 10mm further down the line when it is a 6mm coming into the property and the garage is separate?

the app is really just there to tell the heating system when you're home or not. after a while, it will get to know and adjust to your schedule, turning on when you're indoors, switching off when you're out, pre-heating when you're on your way home. you could also disable the passageway thermostat dial (e.g.) if kids keep faffing with it. if you've got a voice speaker, you could get clever with automations and stuff too I guess, having the thermostat automatically drop a few degrees when your SO is out of the home to save some ££. for the majority of people though, they'll be fine with a normal old thermostat, seeing that these usually cost between £150-£200

one of my big criticisms to UK main boards is the lack of having to use gland for the incoming cables in north america every cable has to enter thru a gland (lets not count south america they are supposed too i believe but who follows regs in those parts🤦‍♀️) (used to be common to have a max of 2 per gland if smaller than 2.6 mm now seems to be no more with newer regs.) dont need to list your crits with our wiring methods i agree with a lot of them myself lol but if you do i can explain some of them (well if i agree with them no explanation needed)
@persona250
@persona250 4 жыл бұрын
If you look closely you can see he has used a gland on the incoming tails . In the Uk the cables must be securely fixed and the IP rating of the fuseboard maintained to a set standard , A gland would be one method to achieve this along with others .

Hi tom, new apprentice just wondering why you times by 1.67?
@berry120
@berry120 4 жыл бұрын
A 2.5mm² T&E (in the UK) has twin 2.5mm² condcutors and a 1.5mm² uninsulated CPC. The resistance is proportional to the diameter, and 2.5 is roughly 1.67 times greater than 1.5 (2.5/1.5=1.67) - that's where the "magic value" of 1.67 comes from.
@codenamenel
@codenamenel 4 жыл бұрын
because your live and neutral conductors are 2.5mm but cpc is 1.5mm, Divide 2.5 by 1.5 gives you 1.67, which is how much extra resistance the smaller 1.5 mm conductor should have. It also works for 4mm ring with a 1.5mm cpc but then you would times by 2.67, because 4 divided by 1.5 = 2.67
@danielbrydon3869
@danielbrydon3869 4 жыл бұрын
In a 2.5/1.5 twin and earth the earth is 1.67 times smaller, so it's resistance will be 1.67 times greater for the same length. Resistance is inversely proportional to CSA.
@frazer26
@frazer26 4 жыл бұрын
Charlie Snell line and natural are 2.5mm, CPC is 1.5mm. 2.5 divided by 1.5 is 1.67. the 1.5 mm cable has a higher resistance than the 2.5 due to it having a smaller surface area
