Fix Your Groin Strain On Your Own!

Learn how to fix your groin strain on your own with at home stretches and exercises. Dr. Kristie shows you how to, first release the muscles, and then stretch and strengthen.
Most groin strains occur from being over stretched, so it's important to start with icing and gentle release, NOT stretching.
Once the area feels better, than stretching may be started.

I ordered a Derma Edge because I was having tightness and pain around my IT bands. When I received it I went to work on breaking up the fascia and lactic acid in the big muscles around the outer part of my thighs (not bothering to check my inner thigh muscles). After a couple of days my legs felt much better, so I started on the inner thigh muscles, particularly the sartorius. Well, I hit that muscle with the DE and just about jumped off the couch it was so sensitive and tight, yet never gave me any trouble. Now it's much better too. And as a side note, I didn't drink enough water after really working hard on breaking up the fascia and the lactic acid caused me to wake up the next morning with a major headache. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that the Derma Edge is an awesome tool and so much more effective than foam rollers. Thanks for creating it.

For any pulled muscle, stretching should be stopped. Usually a pull/strain is from an overstretch. I do see groin pain too when people have SI issues. Other exercise, that doesn’t cause pain, is a great idea:) if heat feels good, it’s ok to use.

If you over stretch, which can happen in yoga, a strain can occur. You may want to check with your doctor to make sure there is no hernia. The hip flexors do extend up near the belly button so that could also be the issue.

When a tear is healing 8 weeks rest then as the muscle fibers are healing they reconnect in a cross hatch pattern and will never be as strong, You want them to heal in alignment as much as they can and you need a sports doctor to show you how, I tore mine running to far with too heavy boots, They put heat then stretch then ice but you need the doc to tell you when to strart that, Rehab does it all for me.

Srishti Mahawar it’s difficult to answer this without actually seeing you. It may be that you have tight hips or tightness in the joint, or there could have been injury from falling as well.

Srishti I usually do some depp tissue groin stretches because I also had proble sitting cross legged but the more I stretched and worked on my groin I felt much better. Start slowly and then increase the stretch difficulty

Struggling with a groin injury for a year now , decided to fully stop skating and rehab my leg.. how long is general recovery for a injury with rehab …? 8 weeks? I’m worried that it will just come back, but I’m trusting rehab will strengthen it

How do I know it’s definite groin strain? I can’t even recall how I could have even done it. It literally started hurting whilst I was doing some weights for upper body and then getting down on the floor to do floor mat chest presses, I noticed it hurt in my inner thigh just at the top area. So how long before I can start stretching it after I’ve been massaging it for a while today now and it’s still hurts in certain positions or movements?
