I was a bit inebriated when they switched and reacted to the studio version but could swear when Brad and Lex reacted to this, the song was playing at like 85% speed when they did it live stream...it was noticeably slower for me at the time (I never heard the song that slow). Listening to the reaction now, in this video without live stream, and it seems normal speed. Damn, was I that drunk the other night?

🌟Fun Fact: Stevie shared in an interview that she bought the novel "Triad" in an airport just before a long flight. She thought the name of one of the two main characters, Rhiannon, was so pretty that she wanted to write a song using the name. She wrote "Rhiannon" in 1974, three months before joining Fleetwood Mac, and has claimed that it took 10 minutes to write. 10 minutes. WOW! 🎵❤✌

Mick Fleetwood is always overlooked when people talk about this band, but he is very underrated as a drummer. If you really listen to his drumming, his snare hits are late or early for most of this song, and in most bands it would be very noticeable, and distracting. In Fleetwood Mac, it just works perfectly. His fills are perfect for the songs, and his time signature is unique in every way. His drumming is as distinguishable as Phil Collins, Neil Peart, John Bonham, or Stewart Copeland.

People keep saying this, but I had only heard the song in passing before listening to and being totally gripped by the 1976 live version. (Then again I’ve learned to appreciate live performance videos in the past 5+ years… when I was a kid I would’ve also preferred studio stuff. Both have there place, but as your get older and your heart grows weary… there’s something soothing, something human about the live performances that more effectively touch the soul.)

So, the reason a live performance was recommended is that live performances of Rhiannon tend to start inferior to the studio cut, but then they build in to an incredible climax that simply isn't on the original record; basically, the entire end of the song is missing on the original track. I'm not sure that particularly live version is the best to go with, but you really should listen to one of them (The best one I've ever seen was actually a rehearsal session from back in the day, but unfortunately I can't seem to find in on youtube anymore, unfortunately; actually the version off their reunion album - the one they did a few years ago - is really good, so maybe check that one out. Edit: Holy shit, I found it. It's actually the "official video" and I didn't realize it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIKkfGmpi9Spi80

The Midnight Special performance of the song from 1977, where the image of the thumbnail came from is astronomically better than the studio version. In fact, nine times out of 10 when you hear the song on the radio they were playing the cut from the midnight special recording not the studio version. It’s because it is not much better and a completely different song.
@BalbazaktheGreat
@BalbazaktheGreat 2 жыл бұрын
@@kimandbrettoverlander736 Meh. The version I linked is superior to the Midnight Special performance in pretty much every way; the tempo on the Midnight Special version is way too fast and the sound quality isn't that great - you can hear Stevie way better on the one I linked. I'd also say the crescendo at the end is better, too. As for the studio version, the best I can say about it is that it's very clear, high quality audio. It doesn't have the heart and soul of any of the live versions, though and is basically missing the entire tail end of those performances.

Based on the set design it looks like the rehearsal for the Midnight Special performance that everyone raves about. I would agree their harmonies on the chorus were better here... Stevie looked coked-up in the later performance, but it's still good.

Rhiannon is a Welsh name. She is a Welsh goddess from the Arthurian times, King Arthur and Merlin etc who were also Welsh. In a roundabout way, this song originates from that Rhiannon and Fleetwood Mac did another song called Angel that was also about Rhiannon. She was inspired by the Rhiannon story and was making a Rhiannon themed project but I don’t know if she ever finished it and if she did, what it ended up being. Many Led Zeppelin songs are inspired by Wales and Welsh legends. A lot of bands at the time were in tune with the old ways and inspired by the British way, the real British and because the Welsh are the native British, it’s their cultural identity and history that is used

The BEST thing about watching Fleetwood Mac live, or just Stevie Nicks, is to watch their energy and intensity !!!! There is so much Drama and History in that 5 part band ... Marriages, Divorce, Breakups, Affairs .... And they all wrote songs expressing their collective Pain ! The result is Rock and Roll MAGIC ❤️ !!!!! Treat yourself to some live performances. Try SILVER SPRINGS from "the Dance: live Concert". That one song from that concert won a Grammy for " BEST Live " performance ! So moving ! *** FYI : My ALL-TIME favorite band starting back in 1975 when I was just 10 yrs old !!! Stevie Nicks was so mesmerizing with her flowing, gypsy outfits and her incredible mystical, magical lyrics !!! Take some time to research her, you will be bewitched and fall in Love with THIS gorgeous soul ; her solo albums are an amazing journey ! Full of driving ROCK anthems like STAND BACK or EDGE of SEVENTEEN and then she breaks your heart into a million pieces with poetic ballads (like Beauty and the Beast or Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You?). She also has wonderful classic hit duets with both Tom Petty and Don Henley(from the Eagles). "Stop Dragging my Heart Around" and "Leather and Lace ". Hope you enjoy !!!

SOME live versions are very much worthwhile, because sometimes bands adds extra bits, and/or sometimes they're recording the concert for a live album. In the latter case the sound can be really good if it's taken straight from the mixing desk with a _controlled_ amount of crowd sound for atmosphere, and they usually make an effort with professional camera setups too. Sometimes though, your right: the sound can be lousy or the band were having an off-night. Especially bad is when it's amateur footage recorded on a cell phone, because the mics on those things just aren't designed for the job. I've seen cell phone footage of concerts _I was at_ that I didn't recongise as being the same thing.

"Rhiannon" is a Welsh Witch that lived in the 17th century. Stevie Nicks became sort of infatuated with the story of this real woman, and wrote this song about her. Stevie Nicks was, and still is Drop Dead Gorgeous, and just happens to be able to sing a little bit. Fleetwood Mac was one of the best concerts I ever attended in the 70s. " is a major figure in the Mabinogi, the medieval Welsh story collection. She appears mainly in the First Branch of the Mabinogi, and again in the Third Branch. She is a strong-minded Otherworld woman, who chooses Pwyll, prince of Dyfed (west Wales), as her consort, in preference to another man to whom she has already been betrothed. She is intelligent, politically strategic, beautiful, and famed for her wealth and generosity. With Pwyll she has a son, the hero Pryderi, who later inherits the lordship of Dyfed. She endures tragedy when her newborn child is abducted, and she is accused of infanticide. As a widow she marries Manawydan of the British royal family, and has further adventures involving enchantments." Wiki

The studio versions of classic rock songs are the best to do, they are the versions that made the band famous.

Highlight of my life was getting to meet Stevie Nicks. I own a copy of everything she's released. Seen her live 5 times with Fleetwood Mac , and 7 times solo , met her twice. I celebrate her birthday every May 26th instead of my own on December 13th

You should watch the live version from 1976 to the end. The ending on the studio version is just the beginning of some breathtaking performance by Stevie on the live version. Incredible.

YES!!!!! Always listen to the studio/album version first and then (if you like the song) maybe react to a highly rated live version from bands/artists while they are in their prime.

"Nicks started writing this song after reading the book Triad by Mary Leader. It is about a woman who believes she is being possessed by the spirit of a woman named Rhiannon. There are themes of mythology and the occult that Nicks used in her song along with the name." ~ Rhiannon was also a Welsh witch.

Fleetwood Mac (this version of Fleetwood Mac) is perfection in the studio. They mess with the live versions in a way that just makes me NEED to hear the studio version. Good call on the studio version! Brilliant song.

I also listen to the vocals as music rather than words. What they sing isn't nearly as important as how they sing it.

When you're listening to a song for the first time it's generally always better to go with the studio version. This is such a good song, the band is amazing! Try a few with Christine McVie on lead too, Songbird, You Make Loving Fun, Don't Stop.

Now for a Lindsay retort: *_World Turning_* . If you liked this studio version the you will LOVE the studio cut of *_World Turning_* . Lindsay's voice and Christine's voice are sometimes difficult to tell apart so their harmonies and unisons are absolutely mesmerizing. The entire band was the real deal . . . everyone was a master of their part.
