I'm a market gardener and your channel is helping me expand into flower farming. I grew some cut flowers last year (Asters, Zinnia, and Sunflowers) and the amount of money I made far exceeded the money from vegetables without about a quarter of the effort. I will continue to farm vegetables, but we're cutting out a lot of the veggies that take tons of space (pumpkins/watermelons) and growing flowers instea.d

I can’t wait to see the varieties you come up with! I’ve been growing dahlias in zone 7a for two years leaving them in no dig beds and they have come back! I want to save seeds this year at the end of the season. I look forward to your seed saving video and growing from seeds. I hit the notification 🔔 ❤️

I am enjoying your Dahlia videos, Do you have a video on digging up and storing your dahlias ? I have struggled with this, I don’t know what medium to store them in, peat, pearlite, etc.

Thank you for this! I don’t have any outdoor space and am growing in a 3’x3’ bed in a tent and thought I was only going to be able to plant like 2 seedlings lol.

Very informative, thank you! So, you do 4 rows 4' wide by 60' long with individual seedlings planted 4 rows per row, spaced 4" apart, correct? I have your book Discovering Dahlias. If you use a 128 cell tray, do you up-pot the seedlings, or plant them out earlier? Also, you mentioned that you do not pinch these seedlings, correct? Why is that? Thank you in advance! I'm so looking forward to next season's seedlings! :)

Oops, also, what do you do with the tubers of the flowers you don't keep? Dig them up and compost, or leave them in the ground, etc.? Thank you!

So first year trying to grow dahlias from seed.. 😂 I was able to grow (the big) 2 dahlias from seed this year.😜 Seems like so little.. in comparison.., but I am excited to see what they turn out to be and name them.., Oh and I also managed to propagate clippings off of a few other Edinburgh variety dahlias and they’re well rooted and looking good too. Starting to prep them for their return to the great outdoors. 🪴🙏🏻🫶🏻

Finally able to make time in life to grow flowers & found you/Floret! So excited to grow your dahlias, but already making newbie mistakes:( My dahlias didn't just fall out of the tray like yours did in the video. Even though I bottom watered all along & they looked moist on top. However, when I went to plant, they were dry & I tore the roots apart, ugh! Was I supposed to water well before planting? Also, I squished in the bottom of each container to push it out & it was a disaster . . . I think I damaged them . . . hope they'll forgive me and still grow! So, what's the trick to getting them out easily & not damaging them?

When do you recommend pinching the seedlings? Or should I not pinch them? I have florets daughters

Where do you get your seedling trays? I buy trays from the big box stores but they don’t last more than a season or two

We order in bulk from a wholesale company, but Johnny's Selected Seeds is a great retail option!

Don´t their tubers get tangled with the neighbor clump when you cull them? thanks!

We generally cull out the ones we're not keeping early enough that they aren't too intertwined.

I'm just learning about dahlia's so I am curious, why won't you pinch these plants?
@TeamFloret Жыл бұрын
Pinching encourages the plant to branch from the base and produce more blooms. When we're growing dahlias for breeding we only need to see a bloom or two to determine if it's a keeper, so pinching isn't necessary. You can pinch your dahlia seedlings if you like, though!
