A Welsh Country Pub Escape: The Bush Inn, St Hilary (As Seen In Sherlock)

A Welsh pub lunch. We visit the Bush Inn, St Hilary near Cowbridge in the Vale Of Glamorgan. The second video of our Welsh country pub adventure.
The Bush Inn is an old thatched Grade II listed building which dates from the medieval era. You may recognise it from the TV series Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch. It stood in as the Cross Keys Inn on Dartmoor in the Hound of The Baskervilles episode.
As well as the pub, we take a look around the little village of St Hilary and the village church on this snowy day. Like many pubs in Wales, the Bush Inn is meant to be haunted by a hapless robber from the past, Ianto Ffranc.

ah, i recognised it straight away. about 30 years ago would pop in for a drink or a meal. what i recall most was that kids were not allowed in the bar. on your left as you go in there was a small area for the kids to drink and a game of table skittles to pass the time. memories!

Hello from the States. Enjoying this series of videos. A little history, beautiful scenery and plenty of food. I didn’t see sausage and mash on the menu. The Welsh lamb burger sounds tempting. A good place to have a nice Sunday noon meal on a cold wintry day. Stay safe and be well.

Since you're in the Vale, you have to try The Blue Anchor Inn in Aberthaw, near Rhoose. Its long history, complete with local legends of a hidden smugglers' tunnel, goes back to 1380.

Hello from Calaveras County and many thanks for your relentless walks and pub tours particularly of the Vale and the many places like St Hilary. Wales in Winter is very charming, it is a land that reminds me of the rugged coast of northernmost California. The pub menu and food look worth a try.

What a delightful pub. I couldn't help but notice that Cllr Aspey looked particularly put out by the fact that there wasn't a battered sausage available on the menu. I share his disappointment.

The people running the bush i have delt with for years as i was a butchery Manager,Andy (we seen him for a sec in the vid) and his lovley wife Liz are great at what they do,ive also gone thro a lot with them from the death of Jack their chef who sadley got killed during a bike ride with andy to seeing their faces when they had to close at the start of covid im going to enjoy these vids.

We hope to show some more local pubs, we hope to show them off and all the good things about them as it's pretty hard for most small businesses at the moment, especially in food and drink. Didn't know that sad fact you mentioned.

My first travel outside of the United States back in 2011 we did the England and Wales coach tour. While walking through London, we happened to pass through the filming of one of the episodes of Sherlock the series. I think it was across from Saint Barts.
