Thanks for the video. Why are they kept in dark space?
@Foodtolive3 жыл бұрын
In nature, seeds do not germinate as well in light as in the dark. This is due to light decomposing the carbonic acid gas, expelling the oxygen, and fixing the carbon; as a result hardening all the parts of the seed, and preventing vegetation. However, once the seed sprouts, light is required, so the sprouts can undergo photosynthesis.

I'm very grateful to have learned this very important info. It's simple and requires very little time or equipment. Already keep all my dried fruits in 32oz mason jars which I eat in the morning also. For some reason my misperception before watching this was that it required soil. Sprouts from the store are so expensive so I can't wait to start eating them more often to get more glucoraphanin, a compound that is converted to sulforaphane during digestion.

"Merry and Happy Sprouting" was the name of my Gift Box.. I have been sprouting for many years. It's very easy and nice to see your seeds opening and growing. The most important about sprouting is to water enough, but not too much. Also, to keep your sprouts out of direct sunlight. It is better to keep them in a fresh area. I add them to my salads, sandwiches, smoothies, soups, and cooked grains as a decoration. It is a very smart way to take the maximum nutrition from greens and legumes without eating too much salads. And the most important, they are so cute that you will enjoy it very much!

@@Foodtolive I use a Chai concentrate to make Nog, that you can spike it for those feeling extra jolly or keep it clean for the kiddos. Here's the recipe.. The Concentrate: 4 cups Water 2 Cinnamon sticks 1in piece Fresh Ginger, shaved 1 Tbsp Orange Zest, optional 1 tsp Cardamom Seed 5 Star Anise, whole 5 Allspice, whole 20 Cloves, whole 10 Black peppercorns, whole 1 tsp Nutmeg 2/3 cup Brown Sugar 2 Tbsp Vanilla Extract ~Bring the 1st 10 ingredients to a boil and simmer 10 mins, at this point I usually turn off the heat add the Sugar and the Vanilla, then I'll leave the mixture to steep while it cools for a couple hours before straining. The Polish: 1 1/2 cups Bourbon 3 cups Plant Milk (I prefer either Oat Milk or Silk Protein Cashew Blend for creaminess) 1 tsp Xanthan Gum A sprinkle of Ceylon Cinnamon to dust each mug ~ Just whisk the polish together and add equal parts to the concentrate; if you're making virgin Nog you can sub Coconut Cream for the Bourbon or just add more Milk of choice. @Foodtolive6 ай бұрын
Hi! Glad you enjoyed the video! Regarding your question, while ozonated water can be used for sprouting, it's essential to be cautious as ozone can affect the sprouting process and may not be suitable for all seeds. Using filtered water ensures a consistent and safe environment for sprouting without introducing additional variables. However, if you choose to use ozonated water, it's advisable to research its effects on the specific seeds you're sprouting and proceed with caution. Hope this helps!

My 'Wish You A Merry Christmas and Healthy New Year" gift box include; - Organic Cacao Butter - Organic Cacao Powder - Organic Cacao Nibs - Organic Canadian Hemp Seeds - Organic Hazelnuts AND a little recipe note (to make with the item) to show extra love❣️👉👉👉 Recipe on the Card: 'Chocolate Covered Healthy Food Lovers Pretzel' You need ALL what's in the box, cane sugar (or organic coconut sugar from Food To Live!) and some pretzels of your choice! (We like mini GF or spelt pretzel here!) 1. Pre-heat oven to 325F, and place a baking pan lined with parchment paper in the freezer or refrigerator. 2. Roast hazelnuts for about 7-10 mins, take out, crush and cool them down on the kitchen counter. 2. Place a heat proof bowl over the simmering water. In the bowl, put 1 cup cacao butter, 1/2 cup cacao powder, 1/4 cup sugar, and mix to combine as the butter started to melt 3. Dip each pretzel in the melted chocolate bath, shake off excess chocolate, and place on the chilled & lined baking pan. 4. Top with cacao nibs, hemp seeds and crushed hazelnut while the chocolate coating is still soft, press the toppings gently. 5. Place the pretzels on the baking pan in the refrigerator till the chocolate sets. (Store well at room temperature as cacao butter is pretty stable!) *customize by choosing different toppings of your liking, or make a white chocolate version (you can also use food coloring for white chocolate) by replacing 1/2 cup cashew or macadamia butter for the cacao powder :)

I’m at day four and my seeds have sprouted but they haven’t grown as much as yours. Can it take more than just four days to see some proper growth?
@Foodtolive22 күн бұрын
Yes, sprouting times can vary depending on the seed type and growing conditions. It’s normal for some seeds to take longer to grow, so give them a few more days and ensure they have enough moisture and airflow.

thank you for a great video, I'm a little confused b/c I watched several videos that recommend 2 full days in the dark and days 3-5 in a well lighted room. I did this with the previous sprouts and it worked great. I have noticed that this brand doesn't sprout as much with the same days in the dark, I will try 3 full days. I also did not soak that long at all. Guess we'll try.
@Foodtolive Жыл бұрын
Hi Marly, thanks for sharing. A couple of factors can effect the sprouting process. The temperature, the humidity, as well as air circulation in the area where the jars with seeds are placed. Many methods call for a short soaking time (4-6 hrs), however I found an overnight soak to produce a better germination rate. Yes, you do keep the seeds in the dark (inside a kitchen cabinet in our case) for 3 full days. Hope this helps.
@marly1869 Жыл бұрын
@@Foodtolive thank you so much for the feedback..🙏🏼 I did the overnight soak this time and 3 days in the dark..I’m on the 5th day now and waiting to see the results. So far I don’t see that much of a difference. I used the same exact spot for the dark pantry phase with the first seeds I had mentioned before and they sprouted quicker and more full.. Hello Leah, and thank you! Yes, you can use bottled water if you don't have a filter, however do save the rinse water and use for your garden or indoor plans so it isn't wasted away :)

What are good sprouting jars with lids that don't rust? I have looked up many different ones but they all seem to have at least some reviews with regard to rust (and or mold)... Any suggestions ? 🤔
@Foodtolive Жыл бұрын
Hello. These are the exact lids that I am using in this video, I've had them for 3 years and they look brand new, no rust. I never put them in the dishwasher, and I keep them inside a cabinet that I use all the time, so there is constant air circulation happening. I hope this helps. Is it okay to mix the alfalfa and the in the broccoli seed? I only have one jar and I'm making these for my birds
@Foodtolive2 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. In fact, in this video we sprout broccoli seeds separately and a seed mix (broccoli, alfalfa, and clover). However, please pay attention to your proportions. You are adding 1 tablespoon of seeds in total, so use half of tbsp of broccoli and half alfalfa. If you put more than directed, the seeds can rot, due to lack of space. Hope this helps :)

I spray with colloidal silver. Research says it keeps them growth free of bacteria and you can't use to much. The plant will only absorb what it needs. Also documented that nano silver increased yields.

How long are the seeds good, if kept in the fridge?
@Foodtolive2 жыл бұрын
In the fridge maximum 8 days, however if they're moist even less than that. In the freezer, a couple of months!

Do you recommend using vinegar or hydrogen peroxide to clean the seeds before sprouting?
@Foodtolive Жыл бұрын
Both hydrogen peroxide and vinegar can be effective in disinfecting sprouting seeds before sprouting, but they work in slightly different ways and have their own advantages and disadvantages. Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent and can kill a wide range of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It is often used as a disinfectant in healthcare settings and can also be used to disinfect seeds. To disinfect sprouting seeds with hydrogen peroxide, you can mix one part hydrogen peroxide with nine parts water and soak the seeds in the solution for about five minutes before rinsing them thoroughly with water. This process can help to remove any pathogens that may be present on the seeds. Vinegar, on the other hand, is an acid and can help to lower the pH of the seeds, making it difficult for many microorganisms to survive. It also has some antifungal and antimicrobial properties. To disinfect sprouting seeds with vinegar, you can mix one part vinegar with three parts water and soak the seeds in the solution for about five minutes before rinsing them thoroughly with water. This process can help to reduce the risk of mold growth on the sprouts. In terms of which is better, it really depends on what types of microorganisms you are trying to eliminate and personal preference. If you are concerned about a wide range of microorganisms, hydrogen peroxide may be a better option. If you are primarily concerned about mold growth, vinegar may be more effective. Ultimately, it's important to follow proper food safety guidelines and thoroughly rinse the seeds after disinfecting them with either solution to remove any residual disinfectant.

i sprouted my first Alfalfa seeds the problem i had was getting the seeds off the spouts. Should i just let the Sprouts grow more before eating so the seeds can fall off naturally ?
@Foodtolive Жыл бұрын
Hello Manny. Yes, keep them in a lit location (not under direct sunlight), the greener they will get, the better the seeds will separate from the sprouts.

Might be easier to use the jar lids to skim the seeds off the top of the water? Great vid btw!
@Foodtolive Жыл бұрын
The jar lids are made of two parts, the frame and the strain, so once you dip it into the water, it will disconnect and will make the whole process even more frustrating lol nevertheless, it doesn't hurt to try :)

So, I've decided to get back into sprouting over the last few months for health benefits. Haven't grown them for some years and never had an issue before in the past...I've followed the process exactly as usual, but now my broccoli seeds are refusing to sprout....idk why? It's been a week and nothing, so I'm starting over. I'd really love to know what could it be?
@Foodtolive2 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, thanks for reaching out, and we are sorry you've had poor results! One of the major reasons is seeds' age - how old are your seeds? have they been in your pantry for awhile before you decided to resume sprouting? Another reason is location - are you keeping your seeds in a dark place at the beginning of the process? Reason #3, are seeds properly rinsed and is there an airflow (coming in and out of the jar), what kind of lid are you using? Are you getting any tails at all? please describe exactly what you see on the second/third day? Thank you!

Can you add all seeds in one container instead of putting them in separate containers? I’d love to do that if possible 😊
@Foodtolive Жыл бұрын
You can mix your seeds, however you can't add more than 2 tablespoons of seeds into a 32 oz jar. Seeds will rot if more than 2 tbsp are added, since the jar has limited space.

Can the seeds filtered out at the end be used to grow the next batch of sprouts? Or do I need to purchase new seeds each time?
@Foodtolive2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the seeds that did not germinate in the jar, will not germinate if you reuse them. For this sprouting method, you must use new seeds. Nevertheless, you can try and experiment sprouting in soil, perhaps it can be a success? If you do, let us know the germination rate. Hope this helps.
